I believe company reviews are very important and Trustpilot is only as good as its reviewers. Sadly many reviewers appear cavalier, and do not consider the impact on often small businesses. Some - I imagine Chess Baron is one of these - do not really deal "professionally" with complaints. In any case I ordered a FIDE set (yes, the Daniel Weil designed pieces in boxwood with double queens) having carefully considered the reviews. One suggested the set offered by Chess Baron was of inferior quality, and the pieces "inconsistent" when compared to a "true" FIDE set. But what does inconsistent mean? Or "true"? Different - ? does it mean two rooks, for example, differed within the set? Anyway, my set came, I compared to another set fom another UK importer. The pieces in boxwood are absolutely perfect. They differ from the other supplier in very small ways (the pawns are slightly taller) as much as can be explained by differing craftspeople carrying out the work. Communication from Baron was perfect, friendly and supportive. The pieces came in the correct box, and correct sleeve. They are stunning. But Baron's price is lower, and he is to be praised for that. The outer packaging (from India) could be improved - but this is the case with many packages from India. We are blessed in the UK with good chess businesses it seems.

Chessbaron and Baron himself were nothing short of excellent. We ordered an Onxy and Marble set as our family's first heavier set and it shipped very promptly. Unfortunately the set shipped to Canada from the UK via the US and US Customs tossed the set leaving it in absolute disarray and even broke two pieces. Unreal. We contacted Chessbaron and heard back same day and not only did they ship replacements immediately, but even sent two of the black pieces to ensure we had a piece with marbling consistent with the rest of the set's black pieces. It arrived promptly via FedEx. Above and beyond. Huge thanks to Baron for his help in making our situation right and for the amazing chess set! We'd highly recommend Chessbaron!

What a fantastic looking chess set from Chess Baron. I bought a small Camelot chest set from them. The detail on the pieces is superb and the chessboard is a real work of art. From start to finish dealing with Chess Baron has been a pleasure. The order arrived sooner than anticipated and it was packaged really well. The presentation box that the pieces were packed is fantastic and also a nice little write up ads a touch of class to an already great product. I can highly recommend using Chess Baron. So if you want a really good quality, fantastic looking chess set or board these are the people to go to.

My 'metal' Isle of Lewis Chessmen arrived this morning as promised by the company. This is an incredible product, beautifully made and is a work of art in itself.
Even though these are replicas, I feel that I am holding pieces of history, having researched the originals in the British Museum. The name "metal" does not do these justice as they are wonderful. Customer service was outstanding too! Thank you so much ChessBaron.

Just received my order for 'World chess' travel set. Looks and feels great. Will be an excellent birthday present for my son. Well packaged and prompt delivery. Also enjoyed the personal message sent alongside. All round good experience to buy from an independent business. Have browsed the website many times and based on this purchase, will no doubt be back for another set!

I ordered a black and white marble and onyx chess set, and it’s truly stunning. Every piece exudes exceptional quality and craftsmanship. It arrived elegantly packaged in a striking red bag, accompanied by a thoughtful handwritten letter.

Bought the kings cross Staunton in bone. Very happy with it, delivery was quick, and even came with a lovely custom message.

I bought what was supposed to be an official FIDE chess set, however it turned out to be either counterfeit or a reject. When compared to a real FIDE set, the pieces aren't weighted the same, of low quality and inconsistent heights. I contacted him to return the set, and after a few weird (unsolicited) WhatsApp messages from him, he blocked me. I will probably pursue with Citizens Advice/Trading Standards to resolve the matter.

I can’t begin to put into words how happy I am with my purchase. I have purchased the Sherlock Holmes chess set with accompanying chess board and I am absolutely thrilled with it. The craftsmanship and detail on the pieces is outstanding and the quality is second to none. The time and effort taken is evident in the finished product and can’t thank ‘Chess Baron’ enough for this wonderful set. I understand this is a family business and they must be so proud to be producing such excellent products. I reached out to Chess Baron for a replacement piece from a board I bought absolutely years ago.

I found them very helpful, and whilst the design of the piece had changed slightly over the years (not Chess Barons fault), they sent me out the replacement piece free of charge.

Just received the World Chess Championship chess pieces that I ordered and I am very happy with them. Would definitely order from ChessBaron again.

I treated myself to the DGT Centaur as just getting back into chess! Wow, am super impressed - things have come along way since the 80’s electronic chess. Also glad I could use my own pieces (with the help of some foil stickers from Amazon) Communication via WhatsApp was immediate with good communication via email and super fast delivery. Would definitely use again!

Website was great to look through, prices were very reasonable and delivery time was great. The product itself looks absolutely amazing, just like advertised. That, combined with the handwritten message inside of the box, will definitely make me want to order again!

About 20 years ago I bought a £250-£300 chess set from this company in Somerset, having discovered the website and being impressed with the large range of products on offer. It was clear from the photographs of each set that they had gone to a lot of trouble to carefully present them. Having purchased a low-end luxury set and board, my initial impressions were confirmed with regards to quality and customer service. That set still serves me well.

Fast-forward to January 2025. I trusted Baron with £600 of my hard-earned cash to commemorate my 60th birthday. My faith in his company was not mis-placed, 20 years on. I am the proud owner of a breath-taking new set of pieces and board of outstanding quality. I can also report they were very promptly dispatched and well packaged. I can thoroughly recommend this specialist company run by Baron, and I would urge potential customers to completely ignore the negative comments. No small achievement to successfully run a niche company like this for over 30yrs.
