I have never had so much trouble with my gardening as I have had this year. Bought a few bags of Westland multi purpose compost, and seed compost and everything has been a disaster. I have been gardening for 32 years and this year hardly any seeds are germinating, mushrooms are growing instead, the drainage of the compost is very odd and all i get is brown smelly water at the bottom. The plants I repoted in this compost are simply not thriving. I must have got a bad batch. This has never happend to me in all the years of gardening.

The topsoil supplied was supposed to be screened but was full of invasive canary reef grass. It is incredibly invasive and has ruined my lawn and garden. Don’t touch this stuff

Bought two bags of peat free compost. Had fungi growing in the trays and pots along with seedlings. transplanted some of the seedlings but ones left in their compost did not grow, transplanted ones did.
Telephoned westland who had me sending photos and samples to Northern Ireland. Waste of time. They said that the compost 'performed as expected' and to keep pinching out the fungi as they appeared which seemed never ending. In nearly 40 years of gardening from seed, I think that I have had my worst results ever!
Tried out a box of their lawn feed seed.considerable time and effort were put into achieving right conditions including raking addition of fertiliser to 6 " and the like.i don't know.albeit difficult conditions during recent dry spell.the rain may improve things.only about 50 per cent of the area came thru and then very slowly.have tried lightly re seeding the failed areas after rain.with more forecast.soil much softer and easier to work.we will see hopefully.im hesitant to blame the product as could be other factors.its hit or miss.but patience is required as well luck and effort.its not a da da!thing as so many imagine and get disappointed.

I've used many Westland products in the past without any issue. However, I recently bought several bags of the multipurpose John Innes BIO3 and it's the worst compost I've ever used, I can't believe you're actually selling this. It has managed to kill off every seedling which was re-potted into it as well as several more mature potted plants.
Once the compost has been watered it dries very quickly and hardens from the top down forming into a solid crust. This crust is pretty much water proof and any further watering results in the water just sitting on top of the compost rather than soaking down through the pot.
Fortunately I also re-potted some of the same seedlings using a different compost All of these are growing fine, whereas the ones using the Westland multi compost all died.
This is a product I will not be buying again.

We bought chipped bark Beds and Borders in 70 L bags and the bark size is stated as 20mm - 40mm. However, the bark pieces are much bigger, my estimate is an average of 60mm with many pieces over 120mm.

I used the full box of this so called "fast lawn repair" on four small bare patches on my lawn having prepared them with a mix of topsoil and compost. I also kept them watered. That was in Mid April and it is now six weeks later and not even one blade of new grass.

Their 3 litre Resolva weed killer fails after half contents still left to use. Useless design.
I tried reporting to Customer Services but Westlands website form is broken too. A shambles.

Purchased several bags of compost with added John Innes. Full of sprouting fungi and when in use more spores are growing causing further fungi.
I have twice contacted Westland’s customer service team sending them a photograph and batch details etc but they didn’t even bother to acknowledge or answer my enquiry.

I was disgusted with the Westland part free multi purpose compost we bought this year. Every year I plant and grow beans successfully but this time we bought Westland compost which I found to be full of bits of wood and infested with mould and fungus growth. I don't know what is wrong with the seedlings it has produced but they definitely seem nothing like the normal healthy plants I get each year, although have done just the same as I always do. I certainly won't be buying this awful stuff again!

This is the second year I have bought Westland peat free all purpose compost for growing tomato, peppers, aubergines, cucumbers and chilli in a greenhouse. This year, the results are exactly the same as last year in that none of the plants grew in a healthy condition. Many died after transplanting from seed compost, whilst others fail to produce a healthy root system and barely grow. For the second year running, I now have to buy young plants from a garden centre and pot them into a compost that commercial growers recommend. I know many gardeners and growers who have been experiencing similar problems and most thought it was something that they were doing wrong. Surely Westland are quality controlling their products and realise that there could be a serious problem with their compost that isn't caused by the users.

Bought a grass spreader a year ago.
On 2nd use part of it broke making it useless.
Contacted the company hoping to get a replacement part and this morning a whole new machine arrived.
That’s what I call customer service

Bought Westland manure & top soil & they are absolutely soaking wet & stink of drains ! Very poor & darent use it as obviously not fit for purpose for veg or flowers … Shame on Westland

Réponse de Westland Horticulture
It might be eco friendly and produce good result, we'll have to wait and see.
It was soaking wet, very large lumps of compost that are hard to break down, a lot of white stuff in it (I don't know if it's fungus?), lots of pieces of unrotted wood, not well rotted. I won't buy again.

Absolutely rubbish compost. I’ve been a professional gardener for 40 years and I have NEVER had failures like I’ve had using the multipurpose with John Innes!
My sweetcorn is reluctant to root out and 50% has actually died. Complete waste of my money and my time. Will now have to spend more money on more seeds. Get your act together Westland

Jack's Magic Multi-Purpose Compost used to be brilliant and I had absolutely no problem with germinating all my vegetable and flowers seeds. This year, peat-free compost, absolute waste of time and money. I have lost so many seeds. Even when they have germinated, they have shrivelled up and died. I understand the peat-free arguments but, let's be honest, it does not work. The clue is in the fact that professional nurseries are still allowed to use peat-based compost. Have wasted all of my time and money this spring. Pointless.

Réponse de Westland Horticulture
Jack's magic is not what it was.
Used be a very good compost now just full bits of twigs and mouldy organic material
