Topens Support Sucks

Gate opener was not working. Would open partially then stop. I spent over 2 weeks going back and forth with support following their instructions on what to test and check. Had to buy a multimeter to do all that. They said it was likely batteries so replaced them. When that did not work they said to replace control panel. Did that and opener is still doing the same thing. The inconvenience of only getting a reply overnight because they have no US based support really sucks. Buy something with US based support!!

I have to agree with others - poor quality, poor service.

I have to agree with others. Cheap for a reason.

I bought the light duty arms to begin with as the gates aren't too big and/or heavy.

At first, everything was ok then one arm stopped moving.

Topens sent a replacement and I went through the rigmarole of changing it.

Then it did it again.

And again. This time the other arm.

Topens suggested sending back and upgrading to the medium duty, which I did.

These have a limit switch you need to adjust, unlike the first set which used pressure. The limit switch should be better, and more reliable.

Should.

Unfortunately not. I came home today to random half opening, closing too far, reopening because it tripped the sensors etc.

I took the faulty arm off and could hear something loose. I opened it up and the magnet for the limit switches fell out. In 7 pieces!

How the hell that happened is anyone's guess however, it looks to all intents and purposes that the limit switch(es) have failed (nothing happens with a meter when brought to a magent) and the screw rammed to the end, fracturing the magnet. Great.

I am bought into their ecosystem with a lock (ah but not the Topens one - that badger failed after less than 6 months) and external keypad so a complete replacement would be problematic and expensive.

I managed to rebuild the magnet in a fashion and have ordered a new set of limit switches, as well as a new set of openers because I can't be without them.

Do not buy from this company. Once the warranty is up they literally do not care and will not help and they are basically junk that do not have a very long life.

Communications is via email (and everyone seems to speak to Zak) which means a 24-36 hour delay between replies.

Buy cheap buy twice & spend hours trying to sort

BUY CHEAP........ BUY TWICE! TOPENS A8132 Dual Swing Gate Opener-Heavy Duty.

UK customer,purchased in June 2023 it is now March 2025 and here is my review based on under 2 years of use.

Installation reasonably straightforward and initial use was trouble free. My use is infrequent, a set of gates at home, average use maximum twice per day, so not heavy usage.

Within first month of use problems began to occur, since then I have fitted replacement actuator arms, power supply unit, and control processor boards.

Topens are a Chinese manufacturer, they have no presence for sales/service in the UK, other than a dispatch agent, so concerns are dealt with through email. This can be frustrating as there is a language barrier having to wait overnight before a reply is received. Particular problems with poor quality control processor boards whereby the gates do not open in correct sequence, jam closed, soft stop feature is a particular re-occurring fault and there is no consistency or repeatability of the fault conditions......It is as if the processor has a mind of its own......very frustrating. I am on the 3rd control processor board!!!

Also fitted ET24 Electric Gate Lock......waste of money. Not waterproof, and I have found that rainwater enters the electric coil, mechanism freezes up in winter therefore is inoperable.....you will need a hair drier to thaw out or jump over the gate to exit – rubbish product.

Importantly when you do have a fault Topens expect you to test the system using various methods i.e. multimeter etc. Eventually they may offer a replacement component. However once the 1 year warranty is up you are on your own.

My next move is to rip the whole Topens system out and purchase a quality alternative - buy cheap....buy twice = lesson learnt!

Topens have been great! I ordered via Amazon and had an issue but Shelley at the customer service department was so quick to resolve my issues, she has a new kit sent out to me straight away! I would really recommend using topens! AT602 is the best motor in my opinion!! ;)

Do not buy their products

Update 11/26/24:

They will not warranty their gate opener. It was brand new in the box. Their CS rep stated because it was bought on eBay they can and will not stand by their products! Take it from me DIYers. Buy a Ghost or a Mighty Mule opener. I have had a Ghost opener before. They have outstanding CS!!! They stand behind their products as well!

Do not buy their products. They will not warranty their products if you didn't buy it from them. Buy from Ghost, they have never done me wrong! Below is they CS rep telling sucks to be you. You wasted money on our trash products that we won't cover!

There is something wrong with your business, customer service and the way you treat people who have bought your unreliable products! Again I tell people to buy Ghost products because they stand behind their products and they don't give you a lot of lip like this company and Mighty Mule! That being said, I have since replaced this garbage opener and the trashy MM opener and went back to Ghost. You know what? No problems! Again don't get fooled people! If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck. You guessed it, it's trash!!!!
