After many years of being embarrassed by my teeth, which were yellow and damaged by years of grinding, I visited Glow Dental for composite bonding. I cannot put into words how pleased I am with the result and I found the whole team to be accommodating, caring and professional. They went out of their way to fit in appointments in order to finish the course of treatment in time for my daughter's wedding; Dr George was so helpful with his advice and guidance and the results have surpassed my expectations. I actually cried when I saw my new smile. Thank you to everyone for giving me back a little confidence.

Unprofessional

This is a copy of an email I have just sent them. It is self-explanatory. I have redacted any names, etc.

"To be honest, I am extremely dissatisfied with the treatment I have received and I have decided it is now time to tell my story which I put off doing due to the virus.

Let me clarify: on my last visit on February 27th, when I saw the hygienist, I complained of pain and aching on the right hand side of my mouth (chiefly at the bottom). I asked the hygienist if she thought it might be TMJ or something worse, and she concluded that it was tension and nothing to worry about. At no time did she suggest that any further action would be needed or was necessary.

I wasn't convinced, so I went to see my NHS dentist on 12th March (which is obviously far cheaper than you). She immediately took X-rays and saw that my bottom right had pulpitis and booked me in for treatment, though, as it was below the gum line, she told me that the work would be very difficult to do. She also spotted a cavity in my top right that would require a filling, but that one wasn't urgent. I was booked in for March 25th.

Fate intervened - in the form of Covid 19 - and my treatment had to be cancelled. The pain continued to get worse and, despite three courses of antibiotics, I had no choice but to call NHS 111. Needless to say, I had to jump through various hoops until, on the 21st May, I managed to get an emergency appointment at one of their dental hubs in Earlsfield (part of the excellent King's College Hospital Dentistry Department). The dentist took an X-ray and said that the bottom right tooth was in such a bad state that the only choice was to remove it.

If the hygienist had had the foresight or knowledge to suggest that I had an X-ray when I was there on Feb 27th, all the pain, anxiety and distress would have been avoided.

Needless to say, I no longer have any confidence in this practice."

I am sorry to hear you are dissatisfied with the treatment you have received at Glow Dental. Your feedback is important to us and I thank you for raising your concerns with the practice.

I have looked into the points you raised in your email and can confirm you were advised to book an appointment with the dentist if symptoms persisted.

I am glad you were able to get an appointment with your NHS dentist, we would have also have been happy for you to see a dentist at our practice, as we were fully open until 23rd March, with extended opening hours and weekend availability, we also have a specialist Endodontist at our practice - who may have been able to see you for Endodontic treatment, which hopefully would have resulted in you not losing your tooth.
Kelly, as a dental hygienist must work within her scope of practice as set out by the General Dental Council and this is why we recommend regular check ups with a dentist as they will take X-rays periodically to detect caries which is essential when trying to maintain good oral health.

I am really sorry that your dental appointment was cancelled due to the COVID -19 pandemic, it must have been a very difficult time for you, however the chain of events that unfolded where completely beyond our control and not related to your treatment at Glow.

At this point, I would advise you see a dentist for a complete dental examination, where they can clinically assess all of your teeth, jaw and bite as well as take any X-rays that may be required. They should also discuss your options of replacing your missing tooth.
