I switched over to Grasshopper from Sideline for my business so I could have more than one extension for employees. Despite having a solid up-to-date Privacy Policy on my website, it has been over a month and I still haven't received approval from Grasshopper to use my number to send SMS texts.
My website team and I have been very confused and frustrated as we've made over 5 submissions and all have been rejected, despite the fact that we meet all the criteria in the feedback that we receive.
Customer support has been a joke. Largely unhelpful, over 45 minute wait times only to have the call dropped, and personel unable to help. My business has suffered greatly, as I am used to reaching out to my patients via text for follow ups and to convey important information. Most people don't answer the phone these days and texts are a very useful tool. Anyway, I feel trapped as I've already ported my business number and am fearful that another service will be just as dreadful.
I've had colleagues in my field report that they have waited over 3 months for SMS capabilities through Grasshopper. Word to the wise....choose another service!

been on the phone for an hour and a…
been on the phone for an hour and a half and still no answer why my sms submission wasn't verified. I asked some basic questions and he couldn't answer them. I called once before with an hour wait, kid screaming in the background. Put me on hold and I got shuffled back into the on hold by the system. Is there another service I can use and keep my number?
And I just got dropped after waiting an hour and a half

No support. Literally. I sincerely wonder if anyone even works there. Support emails not answered. Hold times exceed 2 hours (I hang up after that). Five calls in 2 weeks, no answer. Use ANY other service.
Answer to company response: I am sorry too. After 6 years with Grasshopper I switched to Nextiva. Switching is a pain, but at least they answer support tickets.

Don’t do it
Don’t do it. They will mislead you with their cheap service. Then they will charge you fee’s to register with them. They will charge you fees to be able to text. Even after you pay the fees you still wont be able to text. Sign up for a free google voice number instead.

AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!
I signed up for service 12/5/24. I paid for a year up-front and got the phone number for my business. I setup the app, established call forwarding and checked it all out. Seemed to work well. So, I integrated the number into my website and all of my social media and marketing materials. HUGE mistake. Not a single call. So, I called our number today and it went to another small business. So, I paid for the service and NEVER was actually using the service? Good luck getting a hold of anyone there in support. And when you finally do, they sound like a scammer in their basement on a bad cell phone line.

WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN MY LIFE. There is no one real in customer service - you wait on hold for 4 hours & no one picks up. I am convinced this company is a scam.
They completely froze my texting capabilities due to SMS registration but they denied my submission 3 times with no explanation. Then you call and try to sort it out & no one answers.
Cancelling asap. DO not use grasshopper

Don’t use Grasshopper!
Their SMS registration process is an absolute nightmare! I’ve been rejected about four times now , been trying to get this done for about a month with no success . This has negatively affected my business because now I cannot even text message my customers
I switched over to OpenPhone and was able to register through their SMS program. I started text messaging campaign, same day! 0 rejections
I’m so happy I switched over. Grasshopper had many flaws. One of the most frustrating ones was the hidden fees and lack of comunication about billing.
My experience with Grasshopper left me feeling taken advantage of and misled. At times I felt like I was being scammed.
OpenPhone is a better price aswell. I highly recommend everyone switching over. Don’t waste your time with Grasshopper.

Used this service for a year
Used this service for a year. Without any courtesy notice, Grasshopper simply renewed the account for a dramatically higher price. When I complained, they told me I could stop the renewal from happening A YEAR FROM NOW. And then, they removed the "alias" phone number after keeping $400+ for renewal. Do not use this service.

Grasshopper is AWFUL
Grasshopper is AWFUL! I have gone through the process of setting up SMS for my small business with them MULTIPLE times. Every time, they have me change the wording of my submission and privacy policy. I do exactly what they ask and I get declined. They tell me every time that it will work this time if I make they changes they suggest. I need texting for our two short term rentals. It's not for spamming or excessive texts. I have spent months waiting each time and around two hours per call while we make the changes on my website. I cannot express how UNhappy I am with this service!
By the way, I do NOT post bad reviews but this has been going on for three months now.
2/19/25 This has only gotten worse. Grasshopper customer service is a joke. I tried to port my number to another company but was told it would be 10 days so instead, we went through the sms process again and again and again. Same story. They tell you how to submit your application and they have you make more changes to your website and privacy policy, only to be denied again and again. They charge you a fee every time it happens. I can't believe they are still in business and I can't believe I'm stuck doing business with them!

Avoid Grasshopper at all costs – an absolute nightmare for any small business.
I’ve stuck with Grasshopper far too long, not because it’s good, but because the pain of leaving has been the only thing worse than their service. Their customer support is practically non-existent—you’ll spend hours on hold only to receive zero useful help. My SMS compliance was repeatedly denied with no clear explanation, and every time I asked what needed to be fixed, I got a different answer (or no answer at all).
Their website looks and functions like it was built in 2010 and never updated, and their app is a glitchy mess that constantly fails. It’s as if they abandoned the platform years ago but are still charging for it.
I’m finally porting my number to a modern provider, and I couldn’t be happier to leave this outdated, dysfunctional service behind. If you value your time, money, and sanity, stay far away from Grasshopper. I would never, under any circumstances, recommend them to anyone.

I am 100% convinced that there is no real person that works at this company and it is ran by Ai. I have called everyday this week, tried every extension for sales, tech support, and customer service and no one answers. I have been on hold for a total of 6.5 hours this week and no one answers ever! They are cheap because they don't have payroll for a human being. The sad part is my heavily marketed business phone number is from them so if I cancel all the marketing spend is wasted.

Still Can't Get Registered for SMS After 5X+ Tries
If I could give Grasshopper a zero, I would. Their setup to register for SMS texting is horrible. Instructions are non-existent and, even doing everything requested, I've been rejected five or more times. It has cost me at least $75 in registration fees and many hours of wasted time. The registration form field where you have to enter your "opt in" message only takes 200 characters, but just to have all the needed items in there--brand, frequency, how to stop, help, etc., I can't get it below 200 characters. Of course, the form doesn't say it's limited to 200 characters--I had to find that out after hours on the phone and days waiting for a reply. Technical support is completely worthless. Overall, a terrible experience, very expensive, and a complete waste of time away from running my business. If someone says Grasshopper, run away. You can't afford the frustration, expense, and waste of time.
Update after Grasshopper reply:
Well, NOW you fix the form after I spent hours of time away from running my business and wasting lots of money. Too little, too late. I’ve already ported out to another carrier and I can already tell they are better.
