About us
All of the courses are online and include interactive activities and interactive learning materials. When you start the course you will be assigned a tutor immediately and have access to our state-of-the-art student hub. Students are supported by subject specialist tutors through instant messaging, telephone and video conference tutorials. There are no exams instead each unit displayed on the course webpage is a written assignment.
What is an Access to Higher Education Diploma?
An Access to Higher Education Diploma, commonly called an Access to HE Diploma, is a Level 3 qualification designed mainly for adults who want to study at university but do not have the traditional qualifications usually required for entry, such as A levels.
The diploma helps students develop the subject knowledge and academic skills needed for higher education. Depending on the pathway chosen, it can support applications to degrees in nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, paramedic science, radiography, dental hygiene and therapy, psychology, education, business and other professional subjects.
A complete Access to HE Diploma contains 60 credits. Of these, 45 are graded Level 3 credits and 15 are ungraded credits. The graded units can be awarded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.
Universities set their own entry requirements. Before enrolling, students should check that the diploma pathway, subject content, credit requirements and accepted grades meet the requirements of their chosen university course. Universities may also require GCSE or Functional Skills qualifications in English and mathematics, and sometimes science.

This course got me an interview for…
This course got me an interview for Essex Uni for Dental hygiene. Unfortunately I didn't get in. This course is well structured but I personally found it extremely time consuming. I am a single mum with 2 kids. I found myself writing essays at night and doing research on my days off. This was very stressful for me. The course took me 15 months to complete when other people managed to do it between 9-12 months. I don't know how. Amy was very helpful on many occasions explaining things regarding University applying process. Overall I would recommend but keep in mind that if you go over 12 months period you need to pay extension fee of £75 per month. It was very hard work so be prepared.

Balancing education with parenting responsibilities is no easy task, and completing the Access to HE Diploma under those circumstances is commendable.
It’s clear that you gave a great deal of effort to meet the course requirements, often under challenging conditions. Many students do complete the diploma within 8–10 months, but we understand that everyone’s situation is different. For this reason, we offer the option to extend the study period beyond the standard 12 months. This flexibility is designed to support learners who need more time, like yourself, though there is a monthly fee to help cover the additional support and administration involved.

Excellent Experience
I studied the Access to HE health professions course in the hope of studying Paramedic Science.
The support I received from my tutors, Nicola and Andrew, was amazing. The materials were well-explained and interesting. They were challenging, but I enjoyed that.
CLEAR differentiation between pass, merit and distinction enabled me to achieve 39 distinctions and 6 merits (awaiting moderation).
Special mention to Andrew, who supported me massively with my biology units and telephoned me often for support.
A massive shout out to Amy who also was a huge support, especially with my UCAS application, she is very supportive, and nothing was too much trouble for her.
I have a lot to thank AOLL for, as Paramedic Science is hugely competitive to gain a place, I was offered 2 places at 2 different universities, 1 of them being my first choice.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything.

Not a good experience, do not reccomend
My experience with AOLL has been deeply disappointing. The course platform is not dyslexia-friendly, and the marking system is completely subjective, with no clear criteria for distinctions vs. merits. Tutor support was virtually non-existent, and when I flagged accessibility issues, I was only acknowledged at the end of the course. Study materials were outdated (some nearly a decade old), and assignments documents are poorly formatted. Due to inconsistent marking, I didn’t achieve the grades I deserved, not the support I required, forcing me to retake the course elsewhere. AOLL does not prepare students for university—I strongly advise looking elsewhere.

We note from records that support was offered in relation to making the platform more dyslexia friendly and would have been happy to explore this with you further had we known it was on ongoing issue.

I completed the diploma in paramedic science. Over all this was a good course and would recommend it. The platform was easier enough to negotiate and the tutors were on hand as and when needed.
