50% GREAT 50% NOT SO GOOD
On the meat side the sirloin steaks, the beef wellington and lamb shanks are excellent. Great value for money and taste.
I’m afraid the deli products let you down.
The pork pie is far too salty and no jelly. The pate was too lumpy. Overall the deli items that we tried have too big a footprint, for example the pork pie coming from Wolverhampton (hardly local). The scotch eggs and pate from Exeter. Such a shame that a Plymouth company can’t provide them.
The fact that the van visits us on Thursday morning but deli products don’t get delivered to the shop until Thursday afternoon means an extra delivery the following day, and the delivery driver has to ring me for an address adds to the down side of things I’m afraid.
Overall I would score smack bang in the middle with equal positives and negatives.

Hi Kevin,
Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. We’re really pleased to hear that you enjoyed the **sirloin steaks, beef Wellington and lamb shanks**, and that you found the meat to be good value and tasty. As a butcher shop, that feedback means a lot to us.
We’re very sorry to hear that the deli items weren’t to your satisfaction. The deli products we sell are sourced from a local deli supplier who buys in bulk to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the products they distribute. Unfortunately there isn’t currently a local producer making these particular items at a scale that allows us to stock them in the shop, so we do rely on this supplier for those lines. We mainly offer the deli items as a small added extra for walk-in customers in the shop, although we also make them available online so people still have the option if they’d like them.
With regard to the deli delivery timing, their van delivery route runs **once a week on Thursdays to us**. This is explained in the descriptions for the deli items on the website. Because the deli order arrives to us on Thursday afternoons, it can sometimes mean a separate delivery is required the following day if those items are included. We know this isn’t ideal for everyone, which is why we contacted you in advance regarding the deli products you ordered.
We do appreciate the honest feedback as it helps us review what we offer and how we communicate it. And thank you again for the kind words about our meat – it really does mean a lot to our small butcher shop.
Kind regards,
Claire

Great venison offerings, wonderful service
We wanted some low carbon meat, so tried their mixed game pie mix, venison burgers and sausages. The venison is sourced locally and sustainably. They were very helpful and informative on delivery times, friendly on delivery. Only tried the game pie mix and venison burgers so far but both have been absolutely top notch, and for the quality a very reasonable price. Will definitely be coming back for more.

Wonderful culinary experience from a local gem!
We recently ordered a self-cook hog roast from this wonderful family-run butcher, and it couldn’t have been a better experience. From the moment we got in touch, the team were incredibly friendly, approachable, and genuinely eager to help.
They provided clear, step-by-step instructions, which meant we felt confident from the start and knew exactly what to do. The food itself was fantastic—tender, flavourful, and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who came along. There was more than enough to go around, and not a single guest left hungry or uncatered for.
It was a brilliant service from a lovely local business, and we wouldn’t hesitate to use them again. Highly recommended!

A proper butcher with proper meat joints
Great range of products and the website was easy to use. The order confirmation email said they'd let me know when the order was out for delivery but I didn't get an email, however the order was placed late on the 23rd and arrived on the 26th so I was happy with that. Everything looked lovely and fresh on arrival, and the brisket...well, I can't wait to get that cooked as it looks amazing quality with just the right amount of fat to help keep the joint moist.
