Came in on time. Introduced himself. Abbas went round my whole property took photos went up the loft. He was very thorough. Very nice man sat down with me and explained everything.

Our engineer was a little late, but once he arrived it was clear he was incredibly well versed. He was patient, and generous with his knowledge and answered many of our questions from the outset before we left him to carry out his survey. Very happy and hopefully we’ll get our house soon!

Abbas was so nice and incredibly generous with his time. Provided very good advice over and above what I expected. Very thorough and was happy to risk going up a ladder in difficult conditions to help me when he easily could’ve declined given the risk.

Initial communication and booking in was really smooth with Alpine, we opted for a level 3 homebuyers survey because we wanted a thorough report as we are buying a home we intend to be living in for quite some time. Despite not being based in Manchester where we are buying, Alpine survey quoted for the job and we chose to go with them due to the high number of positive reviews on trustpilot and they were the in the middle in terms of cost (not the cheapest nor the most expensive). In advance, communication with Mark and the team was brilliant, we sent through a list of things we were concerned about and they booked in to do the survey a week or so after we contacted - all good so far.

The morning of the survey, I get a frantic call from the surveyor who is struggling to get into the property. It turns out he was trying to put the security alarm code into a plastic keysafe box on the outside of the property rather than the alarm inside the property where the estate agents had told him to go. Not a great start, but clearly he was confused and flustered by the alarm.

We were due to get our report 3-5 days after the survey took place. 7 days later, I emailed to check when I would receive the report. We then received the report that afternoon and there were a number of problems, we double checked our concerns with my stepddad who is a structural engineer (but sadly based too far away to do the survey for us) and he agreed that it wasn't the best quality survey and required further information. Problems in the report included:
1) There were duplicate copy and pastes within the report (sometimes the same paragraph twice in one section)
2) There were numerous spelling mistakes
3) There were inaccuracies between what was being described and the photographs accompanying the pictures
4) There was a lack of description on some of the issues raised and flagged as serious
5) There were whole sections missing - for example, there were no recommended repairs and associated costs at the front of the report, this was left blank despite there being numerous detailed in the report
6) Not all the queries we raised in advance were addressed in the report
7) There were no documents recommended we request through our solicitors despite there being some mentioned through the report

In addition, we had some standard follow up queries with some of the issues raised in the report.

Since then, trying to get a swift resolution to these issues has been like pulling teeth. Emails not acknowledged. I have rang and spoken to two different people. Promises about the report being finalised and sent through have been made and yet we haven't received anything. This is actually holding up the purchase of the property as we cannot negotiate on price without the full report.

The only email I have received has been detailing responses to some questions and additional pictures as they have sent someone else out to the property. But they haven't updated the report as they said they would.

I would absolutely not recommend them at this point, I feel as though I have been more than fair and patient but it has been three weeks and so much chasing on our side and poor communication on theirs. If we had the option to pay after receiving the report we wouldn't have because of the quality. If we do not get the updated report this week, we will have to go down the time consuming route of taking action to recoup our money and hire an alternative company to do the survey. I am so disappointed that it has come to writing this public review to try and spur Alpine into action.

UPDATE - after this review, they sent me the report. There were still numerous mistakes but I wanted to proceed with the house purchase. Unfortunately, the report was a complete waste of money. The seller of the property we are purchasing is a surveyor and responded to the report with a 5 page document pointing out a number of inaccuracies made about the build and structure of the house, as a consequence they are refusing to take the report into consideration with the house negotiation and only the other damp, electrical and drainage surveys we conducted separately. Not only was this report a waste of £475, but it actually cost us thousands in the end of being able to negotiate on the property sale price. DO NOT USE ALPINE SURVEYS.

Abbas was extremely thorough and gave took time to fully explore the issues with me. I felt he gave impartial, honest and open advice. Very happy with the service.

We had a structural survey carried by the engineer Abbas which was very knowledgeable and patient to explain things. We received a very detailed report as expected: full of pictures he took on site, easy to understand and with clear recommendations. We are happy and 100% recommend Alpine.

They were efficient with booking my home report, just not very pleasant to deal with when I had queries afterwards.. very dismissive of me which wasn’t necessary. Wouldn’t recommend given how many options there are for these surveys.

The structural engineer who attended, Abbas, was very knowledgeable, thorough and polite throughout his visit. He answered all of my queries and was very respectful. I was extremely pleased with his visit and the advice he gave me. The Company was quick to respond when I initially requested a quote and I did not have to wait long for an appointment. They are also competitively priced compared to other quotes I received. I would definitely recommend them.

We had him in the house for over three hours and went through a very long question list we had about our new home. The customer service was outstanding, from the initial consultation call from Mark the Director who personally took the time to arrange for the surveyor to attend to my property. I was so pleased with the service I received from this business - Big recognition to the surveyor (Miraj) who attended my house and found the issues that other businesses / Surveyors could not identify.

The surveyor arrived on time and was polite, patient and helpful. He walked round the house with us noting our specific concerns and addressing them before doing the survey. He explained his findings to us.

I have used a couple of structural engineers in the past however this is the first time I have used Alpine and Abbas the engineer that turned up was absolutely fantastic. Not only did he identify the problems but also suggested excellent solutions. Would highly recommend Abbas and would be more than happy to use him again when required.
