Founded in 1971, Roger Steward Butchers started in Addington Road, Reading, where a busy butchers shop run by brothers Roger and Philip, served local customers and market lorries provided customers across the south of England with high quality meat at great prices. Trading at Bracknell Market since the late 1960’s developed a loyal customer base with great value meat and a huge variety not available in the supermarkets. After purchasing the Berkshire Meat Company and moving to the Reading Cold Store in Tilehurst in 1986, the business continued to expand, serving wholesale customers, catering butchers, restaurants and the public. Market lorries went out every day to locations such as Blackbushe, Newbury, Oxford, Carterton, Bristol and Harlow. In 1999, Roger Steward Butchers and Berkshire Meat Company formed to create Berkshire Meat Traders, continuing to serve high quality meat to customers in a thriving wholesale business and also to locals who wanted something for the Sunday roast. Now employing over 30 staff, the family business run by Philip Steward, Jonathan Steward and David Powell, continues to serve meat to wholesale customers, expanding across the country. The opening of our shop counters in 2018 means we can now offer our great service and prices to our local customers on a daily basis.

First visit and purchase from Berkshire Meat Traders on Saturday. Other than a bit of wait to be served (a good sign) I purchased the boneless BBQ box along with extras for a family BBQ on Sunday. All in all everyone happy with the quality and taste so will purchase again.
Second purchase from this place and highly disappointed. Their chicken (breast, legs, and thighs) came with a strong smell that no amount of vinegar, fresh lemon juice or flour could remove after cleaning. The meat was a thin layer of slime which tells me it’s not fresh. Both times the meat delivered disappointed so will be returning to my trusted old butcher from outside of town (was hoping local business could be just as high quality and save me money at the same time for travel or delivery costs). Please do better Meat Traders…
I wanted to say thank you for great service and quality meat at reasonable prices. We order fairly regularly from Berkshire Meat Traders. All the meat is fresh, of great quality and they are very competitive on price. Much better than supermarket meat, they have a good range so we buy in bulk and freeze most of it. Delivery always quick and comes first thing in the morning to us.
This is the best place for good quality meat and such a reasonable price. Everyone is always helpful and happy. Plenty of choice and happy to help with what you want as best they can.
There is reason sometimes you have to queue out the door. I order via email, pick a date and bulk buy :)

Highly recommend the fridge filler good selection and quality with everything covered. Is my monthly supply for 2 people. The chicken deal is of high standard (Chinese style is my favourite).
Great quality meat with an easy and efficient to use website and delivery service. Becoming as cost efficient as super market, but with loads more quality! Been using them all year and would highly recommend.
