Experience of a lifetime with Bhutan Green Travel 19.4.26 to 3.5.26

Bhutan Green Travel went above and beyond to ensure that my friends and I had a truly memorable time in Bhutan. I cannot praise them highly enough.

Communication beforehand was faultless and immediate. Ugyen was highly professional in managing all our queries and requests, making sure that we had the kind of itinerary we wanted. All arrangements (visas, Drukair flights, transfers, accommodation, drivers and guides) were seamlessly organised and all our needs were met with generosity, enthusiasm and courtesy.

Accommodation was very varied and interesting, often with spectacular mountain views, and our hosts were always delightful.

Our experiences were richly varied, ranging from history, (extraordinary temples and forts), culture, (homestay experience, archery, dance and music evening) to the stunning wildlife and landscapes of the Himalaya, (the Tiger's Nest Hike was unforgettable!). Altogether a fabulous mix.

I made memories which will stay with me for the rest of my life. A breathtakingly wonderful trip!

we recently travelled to Bhutan with Green Travel. WE had an excellent experience. BOoking was easy Ugen organised all flights and visas for Bhutan. Bhutan is fascinating and different to any previous experiences. THe trip was amazing we saw so much. TIgers Nest monastery was the highlight. Green Travel paid attention to detail. FOr example booking seats on the plane to ensure views of Himalayas. WE also had a balcony with amazing views of fort at Punaka. The guide and driver Nanak and Kimga were amazing. THey were responsive and very kind. WE left having a real understanding of life in Bhutan. I would definitely recommend travelling to Bhutan. TRips to this country are generally expensive. I researched options before travelling and Green Travel offered the best and most competitive prices. DUring the trip the manager of Green Travel came to meet us offering local wine and beer as a gift. REally personal touch.

An adventure remembered with affection

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time in Bhutan.

The service we received from Ugyen and his team even before we arrived in Bhutan was above and beyond their remit, for which we thank them sincerely. From arriving at the airport in Paro until the time we left 14 days later we were so well looked after we wondered how we would cope looking after ourselves when we got home!

Tenzin our guide and Tobgay our driver were very easy to get along with and we felt very comfortable in their company. Tenzin filled our heads with so much information on bhuddism, gods and deities, traditions and stories, wildife, where to shop, Bhutanese cusine, etc. We couldn't have wished for a better guide (if there is such a thing as a better guide)! There was quite a bit of driving on our tour and we felt completely safe in the hands of our driver Tobgay, over the winding and narrow roads weaving around the mountains between Paro, Thimpu and Bumthang. Top job!

All the accomodation was above our expectations. It stated 3 star on our itinery but we thought the comfort and the service was above this. Thank you Bhutan Green Travel, you made these last two weeks a holiday to remember with great affection.

The Road less travelled East to West.

I travelled to Bhutan on 20 March and returned home on 5 April 2026. It was a truly memorable experience. Four of us travelled from East to West Bhutan by minibus with our excellent guide Pame and our brilliant driver Khinga. The areas were very different but all wonderful to experience.
The itinerary included dzongs, monastries and temples set amongst stunning mountainous scenery. One unforgettable evening and overnight was spent in a homestay with the most welcoming family and a layer of snow outside.
Bhutanese food was superb although I did avoid chilli cheese after the first tasting - it was too hot for my taste but there was such a variety of other food offering that it did not matter at all.
The hotels were all very good, some in villages, others further out with amazing views across valleys.
There were some unforgettable highlights - the festival at Paro, climbing to the Tiger's Nest monastery and more simply, plentiful picnics at the side of the mountain miraculously served from the back of the minibus.
I have recommended Bhutan and especially Bhutan Green Travel highly to friends and colleagues.

Unforgettable

We had an absolutely unforgettable journey to Bhutan, and it exceeded every expectation we had.

A huge, heartfelt thank you to Bhutan Green Travel for such an outstanding level of organisation. Everything was handled with incredible attention to detail, and even last-minute changes were managed seamlessly and without any stress on our side.

Special thanks to our organiser, Ugyen, for making everything run so smoothly, and to our guide, Tashi, whose knowledge, care, and warmth made the experience truly special.

This trip was filled with emotions, happiness, and moments we will carry with us for a lifetime. Bhutan surprised us in the best possible way, it’s one of those rare places that stays with you long after you leave. We never expected to feel such a strong desire to return, but now we’re already dreaming of exploring the more remote and wild eastern parts of the country.

A big, big thank you again, we would absolutely recommend Bhutan Green Travel to anyone considering a trip to Bhutan. Natalia

The Royal Highland Festival 2025

The Royal Highland Festival 2025

Bhutan was high on my list of countries I wanted to visit when I want to the Destinations Travel Show in February 2025 and after speaking with Ugyen there I was sold. BGT would organise the tour and transport, all accommodation and food, the flights to and from Paro, the visa and it was all done brilliantly. Bhutan is a beautiful country with a clear vision for tourism and with the help or our amazing tour leader and guide Pema and our driver Kinga we saw many highlights. Pema went beyond expectations to make sure we enjoyed the entire experience from start to finish (who else would get us a selfie with members of the local favourite boy band!), as did the other BGT guides when we met with fellow travellers on similar bespoke tours at the Festival.
The Festival was the highlight of the tour, a feast for all the senses including an address to visitors in English from His Majesty the King. The local community was so welcoming, we enjoyed a conversation with the Queen, took endless photos of the costumes and spectacular events, and every moment of the three days spent on the trek to Laya, camping, the Festival itself and the return journey were a joy. That's not to say the rest of Bhutan was any less amazing - the Dzongs, Tiger's Nest and the other temples, the view of the mountains at Dochula Pass, learning about Buddhism, chilli cheese - the list goes on. The hotels and food were great and we were looked after very well.
I would definitely recommend Bhutan Green Travel and thank Ugyen, Pema, Kinga and the rest of the team for a wonderful experience.

Bhutan holiday

I first met Ugyen at the Destinations Travel show in London before Covid but it has taken me this long to book a holiday. I wish I had done it sooner. It was a most enjoyable and educational trip. Bhutan is a very beautiful, calm, and peaceful country. There were just tfour of us in the group. Our Guid, Pema, was extremely knowledgeable and took time in describing the Buddhist faith to us with all the Dieties and different Buddhas.
The Highland Festival was emotional, I loved it. The King and Queen visited every stallholder and spoke to visitors also. The Queen stoppped and spoke to me, I felt very honoured.
The drivers we had were brilliant, very professional and safe. There had been landslides on the mountain roads but they managed them expertly.
I would definitely recommend Bhutan Green Travel to friends and family. In fact, I already have. I will be looking to book another holiday in Spring in the next 2 years to take in the Rhodedendron Festival

Bhutan - a fabulous country

I totally concur with Andrew's review. We were in one of the groups that shared the Royal Highland Festival experience together.
We also met Bhutan Green Travel at the Destinations Travel Show, although we were in London rather than Manchester.
Ugyen sorted out everything for us, including ensuring that our plane seats were on the correct side of the plane so that we could see Everest as we flew past.
We decided to have a mix of hotel styles so we had some 4 star & in the more rural areas they were 3 star, all were excellent. The only downside is that they are all buffet style, but you got used to that & the food was very good.
On the trip to Laya for the Festival we had 3 nights camping (only other choice was a guest house) where we were joined by the other groups from Bhutan Green Travel, so there were 11 of us in total. This made perfect sense as we were all cooked for & ate together & our tents were all in the same spot. It was also lovely to meet some fellow travellers & find out how there experiences of Bhutan were going.
We chose to go to the Royal Highland Festival as it was significantly more remote, hence the camping, & can only be accessed by walking for 3 hours, uphill to 4000m! Consequently the number of tourists decrease so you felt like you were getting a truly unique experience. And indeed it was!
Bhutan is a fabulous country with the most amazing scenery & beautifully decorated buildings, be that a homestead or a temple.
I would not hesitate to recommend both Bhutan as a destination & Bhutan Green Travel as a fabulous tour company. Just make sure you go for one of the many festivals, it's the icing on the cake!

Royal Highland Festival and other Bits

I first met with Bhutan Green Travel in January this year at Destinations Travel Show in Manchester - I was looking to see what couls be offered by companies to someone who had become recently a solo traveller. After passing the stall a few times I spoke Ugyen who suggetsed that best tour for me would be the Royal HIghland Festival in October. After a number of emails going back and forward I settled on the tour and to do it just on my own, not as part of a group.
Bhutan only allow local guides and drivers to take you round an have a large daily tax which goes to government supporting the needs of the country, pensions, education and health. BY the way the guide told me that health was free for tourists as well as locals in Bhutan.
The organisation was excellent and the only thing I ahd to sort was to get to one of the 4 airports that fly into Paro (only a few pilots are qualified to land there). I chose ICT Delhi and had about 12 hour stop either side to allow for any changes to schedules. This made for an unhurried and relaxing arrival and departure.
Everything is organised by them, Bhutan Visa, Bhutan Air travel, Accomodamtion, Food, Entry Fees, everything you could think of.
As it was a trip to the Festival, walking up to Laya I was joined by 3 other other groups that Ugyen had organised and we camped together. Great to talk to others and have a laugh, sharing our experiences.
Ugyen was correct the Festival was spectacular, emotional, colorful, and clearly enjoyed by the higlanders that it was designed to celebrate. We had to wait until the KIng had set off towards Laya on the day before and he and the princes walked to the site - no mena feet.
The tour included Dzong (Forts), Watchtowers, Temple, Stupa, Passes and Tiger Nest Temple... to mention but a few. The people of Bhutan mainly wear national dress, are happy, helpful, will run after you if you have left or dropped something. The experience was educational, emotional, opening up to the Buddhist faith of the country.
Would I go again yes - Ugyen is keen to get people to go the East which is relatively unspoilt and hardly touched by tourists. That seems like the best idea for the next travel. There are lots to see, animals, birds included and different seasons produce different sites. The March Rhododendron blooms and festivals with over 50 different types colour some of the mountains.
Would I travel with Bhutan Green Travel, yes, I was cared for from the moment I first said yes to the moment I got home.
I felt safe, cared for, valued and had the experience of a lifetime in a country of about 800,000 and a King that is forward thinking and loved, revereed by his people. He even spoke to me at the Festival.
Look at the country, ask the questions and Ugyen will give you a wise and honest answer. Go and be amazed and transported to a completely different place.

Meticulously well organized tour.

Our 14 day tour was meticulously well organized, even following an unavoidable weather delay. BGT made sure that our needs were met in terms of site visits, hikes, and food and lodging. Our drivers and guide were exceptionally professional, good spirited, informative, and made every effort to tailor our experience to our particular interests. I have done a lot of travel globally over the decades, and I can give BGT my strongest positive recommendation.

A fabulous experience from start to finish - couldn’t have hoped for a better trip

I recently embarked upon BGT's 14-day ‘Best of Bhutan’ Tour which included the Thimphu Drubchen Festival and a trek up to the iconic Tiger's Nest Monastery. This tour comprised 1-night in Paro before an early morning domestic flight to Yonphula in the far East of the country; an experience in itself. Then back to Paro by minibus over the next 2-weeks. This gave us a wonderful overview of Bhutan; a perfect balance between beautiful scenery, magnificent architecture, and their devout culture.

BGT were exceptionally professional from start to finish. Pre-tour communication and arrangements were clear, including flights and visas, and we were completely cared for from the moment we landed at Paro Airport.

We had a small group of 3 friends which ensured an intimate, relaxed experience with flexibility to go at our own pace and tweak the itinerary slightly to suit our interests.

Our guide and driver were exceptional. Our guide, Namka, was very passionate and knowledgeable for such a young man. He is so enthusiastic about Bhutanese culture and Buddhist religion. He spoke clear English and took the time to fully explain the significance of each place of interest. He was also very attentive to our needs and constantly checked our wellbeing and happiness. He was instrumental in making our trip so enjoyable and memorable and I intend to keep in touch with him. Our driver (sorry, 'pilot'), Kinga, was more than ‘just’ a driver, which in itself was a massive responsibility on some Bhutanese roads which are long and winding at significant elevation (up to c. 3,500m) and require great care to navigate and I always felt completely safe. However, it was the care and attention he gave us that made such a difference. He was always at hand to help us from and into the minibus and to escort us around the sites. His devotion to duty extended beyond his normal working day, and he often greeted us first thing in the morning before breakfast, and after dinner. His daily routine of washing the minibus and providing fresh bottles of water did not go unnoticed.

It was great having a minibus for the 3 of us. It gave us plenty of room and eased mobility in and out. Some days involved many hours on the road necessitated by the remoteness of some sites. I didn’t mind this as I loved the ever-changing mountain scenery, though those who suffer from motion sickness and/or vertigo may enjoy the experience less so.

I enjoyed all of the hotels, and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and amount of food we were served during the tour, especially the lunches which were more like banquets. I never felt hungry (& I can eat) and the food was usually of very good quality, especially at the homestays.

Thoroughly recommended and I’m already in contact with them for another trip.

We had one of our best trips ever…

We had one of our best trips ever visiting this beautiful country with Bhutan Green Travel. They couldn’t do enough for us and everything was beautifully organised even down to checking in our flights for us. Our guide Tashi really went thé extra mile and we certainly wouldn’t have got to the Tigers Nest without his help and encouragement. Our driver Ten was also so extremely kind and helpful and acted as porter for our cameras and water with a smile.
We would certainly recommend this company without hesitation, we’ve done quite a bit of travelling and they are certainly up there with the best.

Bhutan trip of a lifetime

Bhutan Green Travel is an outstanding travel agency. It turned out that travelling solo was a great choice and I’ve got so many lasting memories – never mind the incredible photos. Bhutan Green Travel were highly responsive to my requests and questions and created the perfect itinerary; incorporating trekking, sightseeing, and 2! Festivals. Bhutan is not cheap to travel to and in, but I felt Bhutan Green Travel was great value for money: The accommodation was thoughtfully selected and special; The drivers were careful, professional, very kind and polite – and so was the trekking team. My guide throughout the two weeks was Tenzin and I am still in contact with him! He made me feel at ease straight away. We had great conversations and were also comfortable with being silent. I’ve learned a great deal from him about Bhutan’s nature, history, future, and Buddhist culture and traditions, as well as about everyday life in Bhutan.
I am planning to return to Bhutan and without hesitation, I would choose Bhutan Green Travel again.
