Keep well away
Keep well away. We bought our camper 18 months ago. Nothing but trouble. With vehicle electrics. Company are blaming us for the faults. But the faults are pre sale logged in the engine management system. Current court action is pending for selling a non road worthy vehicle that puts not only my family at risk but other road users too. Check your EMS. check everything. Including engine warning lights being blanked over with masking tape. Disgraceful company putting peoples lives at risk.
Deposit Returned
We put a deposit down for a van in July 2023, we decided as the van was taking longer than expected and we had no communication from Big Wave Campers we wanted our deposit returned.

Big Wave Experience
I purchased my van from the Bude outlet in April 2018. This has been the best, single purchase I have ever made. Jason at Big Wave and the team there have never let me down - whatever requests I have made have been met. My wife and I visited the Coventry outlet yesterday (3rd Nov 2023) to get a few minor things done to the my van. I was met by Ann at the entrance the unit, who greeted us both and monitored the work being carried out, calling me an hour later when it had been completed - it was a painless experience. My time there was also spent looking over the 'For Sale' stock. I was very impressed with the new style laminated units in the back and will look into upgrading my interior at a later date. All in all, I have nothing but praise for this outfit and should I require a new van, my first port of call will be Big Wave Campers.
DG Campers/Big Wave Campers/Deep Blue Campers
My advice is not to touch Big Wave Campers/Deep Blue Campers and more recently known as DG Campers. I originally dealt with Jack at the Romsey branch who initially seemed like a genuine very helpful guy they took our deposit on a van that was to be converted. He strung us along for weeks and weeks, then stopped communicating with us. It then took weeks of dealing with the Coventry branch (where our van was meant to be being converted) who said they’d give us our deposit back, as there was clearly no van. They then too stopped communicating us without refunding the deposit. I sought legal advice and after many emails and letters advising we would take them to court we eventually got our deposit back. No apology or explanation was ever received. Reading reviews I think we had a lucky escape.

AVOID
AVOID, van delivered with 3 engine faults. Table broken, gas leak, lights not working. We asked them to fix the issue and they sent a courtesy car that was full of mess and food and expected us to incur 800 extra miles on the van to be fixed. Staff are rude. When you ask for the owner to call, they say 'good luck with him calling you'.
Appalling service and attitude. I'm having to pay £1000s for the van which is only 2 weeks old. Bought through business so I can not return. But if anyone has any advice please help.
Poor product, Terrible Service, Zero after sales
I bought a camper van from this company through their sales office (Deep Blue Campers) in Romsey at the end of October 2022. I should have spotted the warning signs when it was obvious there had been no pre delivery inspection done, as the nearside wing mirrors cover was broken and the the window switch wasn't even connected. They sorted out the window switch and I fixed the mirror cover myself. I also put new screws into the folding table leg because the screws weren't sufficient for the holes that has been drilled.
The real problems started when I booked the van in to have its cam belt done. This van was 7 years old and done in excess of 115000 miles and was sold with a full service history - but the cam belt had never been changed. I booked it in with VW January 2023. Nearly £5,000 worth of repairs and 6 weeks later I got the van back. The 'no risk' sales spiel they give you is nonsense. The warranty covered about £400 of the repairs. I asked several time if they would contribute to any of the costs. The only 'after sales' contact I got from them was from their legal department, saying they wouldn't help because I hadn't followed their warranty process. While this is one argument (and not entirely correct), the lack of any customer care or after sales support was absolutely shocking.
During my ownership the list of problems are below:
- Window switch not working on delivery
- Driver side wing mirror cover needs replacing
- Needed to fix table leg because the screws weren’t long enough for the holes drilled.
- Manifold/Turbo cracked needs replacing
- EGR valve needs replacing
- Cam belt and water pump never changed on a 115000 / 7 year old van
- No documentation on 3rd party alarm
- Alarm keeps going off / rear door latch needs replacing
- Aux belt needs replacing
- Broken engine stud - VW need a specialist to look at it
- Pop top roof letting in air at the front at higher speeds. Didn’t look like it has been fitted properly.
Unfortunately, shortly after getting the van back from VW I was in an accident which wrote the van off. This also revealed that the leisure battery wasn't properly secured, as it had flown into the main area of the van. I'm just glad I didn't have any children or pets in the back.
It says something about how I feel about the experience that I was relieved for the van to be written off.
I feel a bit stupid for not doing enough research on the company before paying in excess of £30k for one of their products. Lesson Learned. Don't make the same mistake as me.

Me and my partner recently purchased a van from Big Wave, and I must say that my experience has been nothing short of disappointing. From the moment the van was delivered, it was evident that there were serious issues with the vehicle. Not only did I find three engine faults, but there were also noticeable marks on the back where the new windows were installed, which were not mentioned or shown to me before the purchase.
To make matters worse, the van was delivered without being valeted, despite it being agreed upon during the sales process. It seems like once they had my money, they no longer cared about providing a satisfactory customer experience.
My partner immediately tried to contact Jack, the seller, to address these concerns. However, to my dismay, he has not bothered to return our calls or respond to our emails. It's extremely frustrating to be left in the dark after making such a significant purchase.
This van was not cheap, and I expected a certain level of quality and service, which Big Wave has failed to deliver. It's clear that they prioritize making sales over customer satisfaction. I feel like we have been taken advantage of and left to deal with the consequences of their negligence.
I highly advise others to avoid doing business with Big Wave. The lack of accountability and disregard for their customers is concerning. I regret my decision to purchase from them, and I hope my review serves as a warning to others who are considering dealing with this company.
In the future, I will be more cautious and thoroughly research any seller before making such an important purchase. Customer service and product quality should always be a priority, and unfortunately, Big Wave has shown a lack of commitment to both.
AVOID - UNSAFE FOR FEMALE BUYERS
NOT A SAFE COMPANY IF FEMALE AND GENERAL ALL ROUND TERRIBLE COMPANY -AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I bought my van end of January 2023 and it’s been a nightmare 6 months. The van has been returned 4 times, I have not actually been able to use it - waste of money and will not provide compensation for losses. As a female buyer I have been diminished, dismissed, felt very unsafe and told that I am never happy and complain too much despite spending thousands of pounds and not been provided with the product I’ve paid for. Shoddy workmanship, the van comes back with more problems than it goes in to be fixed, poor customer service they literally do not give a damn once they have your money, even within their own company/franchises Big Wave is known for their poor after sales service. Over the months I have repeatedly asked for the manager or anyone to call me back but they refuse, I’m still waiting…
Biggest regret of my life, and whilst they say my van is fixed and I can now use it for its intended purpose I have zero faith in it and it raises safety concerns for travelling, never mind the fact that I have wasted money on tax, insurance, time off work and cancelled holiday bookings.
Further edit, Further problems please do not buy from this company, due to the lack of response, the down right rude and appalling, threatening customer service I have taken my van to another garage to be looked at, the report from them is that they have done dangerous temporary fixes that should not have been done temporary or otherwise, the work done is just not safe and now on top of that I can no longer close my driver door after just having to have the sliding door fixed
They are incompetent and provide shoddy work that is not safe and the amount that this has cost and I still can't use it, so much for them telling me its perfectly fine to use my van when in reality it's not
Avoid at all costs!
Very poor…. Buy your camper elsewhere
I bought a Big Wave Campers VW T5 conversion from its original owner, around 5 years after its conversion. Previous owner had barely used it and we have practically tripled their mileage. Overall, my view of the conversion is very poor. The installation of the stretch carpet lining looks like it took ten minutes, with little care for appearance. In many places, it’s now hanging off and the trimming is very poor. The roof around the pop top is marked by surface rust. I’m told that this may be because a grinder was used to cut the roof and paintwork was damaged by hot swarf - it should have been covered. The electric system is also problematic and the fridge is able to flatten the vehicle battery. The step used at the rear door is the wrong size - we have replaced with one that takes account of the ply floor lining.
Most important of all is that the sexy alloy wheels that came with the van are the cheapest on the market and are NOT rated to take the load exerted by a campervan. We suffered two punctures caused by cracked rims and have since upgraded the wheels to load rated versions. This seems like a major safety fault to me. We also lost the pop top spoiler that had been glued (not screwed) to the roof. We phoned to source a replacement and are still awaiting a call….
Excellent value for money
Excellent value for money, quality work & friendly, helpful staff.
I bought my first camper van roughly 6 months ago & could not have asked for more, the service was brilliant from the customisation stage right the way through to delivery. (Ahead of schedule)
Huge thanks to all the staff at Big Wave, highly recommended.
If I could rate this company as 0 I would…
Poor performance from the start, no paperwork handed out. Van was not valeted for collection, engine rattled and had clearly not been checked by a proper mechanic. Awful customer service. I paid a deposit at the start and now they are refusing to give me my money back. Absolutely shocking… STAY AWAY!!!
There are far better conversion companies out there.

I am so happy with my new camper
I am so happy with my new camper. I can’t believe I’ve waited so long to buy one. Happy times here we come
Poor Service and Professionalism
Ever since our purchase of this van we have been inundated with vehicle problems and bad after service support.
On the pick up day we were informed that our van would not be ready because there was manpower issues at the workshop, this being where our van still was and not at the Birmingham Showroom. Completely disappointed we turned around and started heading home. We then received a phone call from the Salesroom Manager who apologised for the mis-communication and that even if he had to go to Coventry himself, the van would be ready for us in as originally planned. Once again we turned around and headed to Birmingham. Arriving in Birmingham our van was nowhere to be seen? Two hours later the van tipped up, no awning was fitted as previously arranged and it needed valeting. We waited whilst the van was prepped and the van was eventually presented to us late in the afternoon. We did the paperwork and there was no service history or any history prior to Big Wave Campers ownership of the vehicle, I voiced my concerns to the Sales Manager who promised me he would look into it. Alarm bells were ringing here but my Partners joy at finally getting her dream vehicle compelled me to take his word for it. We then looked over the vehicle, the cab was dirty but more alarmingly, the windscreen had a massive crack, the passenger side light was cracked and the engine management light was on plus there was hardly any fuel in the vehicle. More apologies and excuses were issued. Due to the lateness of the hour we took the vehicle away. We had to fuel and add Adblue on the way home in Birmingham rush hour. It was apparent the van had problems as the fuel consumption was terrible, the vehicle struggled to accelerate and closer to home, the engine started smoking. We arrived home, fuel dripping out of the engine hence the smoke and more warning lights had illuminated. We were beside ourselves with anger at this point.
The next day we telephoned Big Wave Campers. More apologies and excuses were issued and a promise that the vehicle would be picked up, rectified and returned to us as a priority.
The van got picked up by BWC and 5 days later, we were notified our van would be returned, it never tipped up.
The next day we were notified that the van would be returned to us by 1900hrs, once again it never tipped up.
Third time lucky we were notified that the van would be with us by 1800hrs, it never tipped up.
12 days after the van went for repair it got delivered back to us complete with a fitted awning. All problems we were told had been rectified.
The van was still leaking fluids and the engine management light had come back on? We informed BWC after we had diligently gone to the effort of taking it to a local garage to get the computer read, 5 alarms had been activated and several were in conjunction with the work that had supposedly been completed to the van in Coventry?
We had asked the local garage to complete the work under the Blue Chip Warranty system, they said 'No' as most garages had parlayed together and would not touch this sort of Warranty work due to the Warranty companies not wanting to pay the garages for the work completed, arguing every step of the way and wanting inferior cheaper parts used on repairs? The Warranty issued with the vehicle is worthless. So once again we arranged for the van to be returned to Coventry for repair.
After 13 days of waiting I delivered the van in person to Coventry.
Another 13 days went by before the van got returned back to us.
Unbelievably it was still leaking fluids so another call to BWC, we got told by the Manager we now have to go through a lady in charge of after sales, he would get her to contact us, this didn't happen. Due to the incompetence and lack of professionalism of BWC, we decided to take it to a local garage for repair sadly at our cost.
Delighted with my Camper!
Delighted with my Camper. The attention to detail is second to none. They exceeded my expectations.
The service has been outstanding and would definitely recommend anyone looking for a camper!
