My Experience with BritLit Publishers
When I first approached BritLit Publishers, I was completely new to the world of self-publishing. I had little understanding of the costs involved and trusted that the prices I was being quoted reflected normal publishing charges.
Since then, I have spent considerable time researching the self-publishing industry and comparing prices offered by other companies and by organisations that supply publishing services directly. As a result, I have come to realise that many of the charges I paid through BritLit were, in my opinion, significantly higher than the market rate.
One example was the charge of £500 for a single ISBN. Only later did I discover that I could have purchased the same ISBN directly from the UK's official ISBN agency, Nielsen ISBN Store, for approximately £91 plus VAT. This prompted me to investigate other services I had purchased, and I found that a number of the marketing packages I had paid for also appeared to be considerably more expensive than comparable services available elsewhere.
Because I entered self-publishing without experience, I accepted these charges in good faith. Looking back, I wish I had carried out much more research before committing to them. That lack of knowledge has contributed to me accumulating around £57,000 of debt through publishing and marketing services.
I fully accept responsibility for agreeing to these purchases, and I am not suggesting that anyone forced me to do so. However, if you are considering using BritLit, I would strongly encourage you to research the market thoroughly, obtain independent quotations, and understand exactly what each service would cost if purchased directly or through other providers before making any commitment.
My review is based solely on my own personal experience, and I hope it helps other first-time authors make a fully informed decision.

This was my first experience of attempting to publish a book. Originally I looked at a totally D I Y approach. Checking on the web soon persuaded me this approach was fraught with complications. Online advice was often contradictory and confusing and mostly targeted at potential authors in the USA. I’d pretty much given up the idea when a relative showed me an advert from Britlit. I thought I’d give it a try and I’m so happy I did.

Moe was my first contact and he talked me through the process and introduced Mark as my Project manager. The whole process was carefully managed and I was shown nothing but care, curtesy and kindness throughout. I had a limited budget to spend so can’t comment on anything but the “basic service”. If what I received was the basic service I imagine their full service must be even more amazing. One piece of advice they gave me concerning purchasing my own ISBN numbers I only partially took up only to find later in the process I should have accepted the advice totally. Mark went to extraordinary lengths to rectify my error as did an unnamed member of staff who offered to work on my problem on a Saturday. Not usually a working day.

Overall the experience was far less stressful than I’d expected and the level of cooperation exemplary. My only advice would be to follow their guidance carefully and when things are sent for your approval and comment; really take your time and check to make sure everything is exactly as you want. They are caring, patient and unhurried so you’re not rushed in any way. I and totally happy with the end product and unhesitatingly recommend them for budding authors.

I am a first timer in publishing my writings. I really didn't know the ins and outs of the publishing world. Mark and Moe at Britlit Publishers made the whole experience easy and exciting. They took the time to explain and re explain as many times as I required! It was, is and, hopefully, will be a very satisfying experience.
