Santona ship Airflow didn’t work in the cabin

We booked a pet cabin on this sailing. We had two dogs with us. During the afternoon it was noticeable that the cabin airflow system wasn’t working, to the point both dogs were panting.
We visited reception and explained the situation three times over a period of two hours. On the third visit we were told someone was coming to help
A young man turned up, fiddled about with the shower room extractor and then said “leave the shower room door open”. That was it!
He never looked at the ceiling cassette or tried the controller.
That evenings sleep was very uncomfortable, total sleep was around 4 hours.
For the amount of money charged and the ship being new this is totally unacceptable, especially with pet cabins.
We are on a return trip in May 26. I hope this problem is resolved.

We find BF to be good....usually.

BF is normally very decent, but not for us this spring.

We could hear dogs howling throughout the night...... this I absolutely terrible for sleep.
Our food voucher wasn't redeemed in the evening, costing us £15 excess.
We had to spend £40 at breakfast, the ship only has self service restaurant/ cafe.
Our cabin was unsatisfactory.

Whatever we tried, the shower filled the bathroom tray. We checked the curtain frequently.
The vent cover was missing, so we could see the very dirty extraction pipe.
The shower hose leaked more water than the head received

The door stay was broken at the door end.
.....however on a positive note, we didn't sink.

Hopeless Tel Contact

Wanted info on crossing but had not yet made a booking. The telephone "AI" was simply hopelessly in adequate and is not programmed for enquiries without a booking reference. Shame on you Brittany Ferries for having such a disfunctional contact process.

It's the principle

No way I would ever use Brittany Ferries again, a company who transport live unweaned calves from Ireland to France, even though they have acknowledged that these journeys were in breach of EU law but concluded they would continue the cruel practice anyway.

20 years of good travel

For 20 years we have had amazing service. Poole to Cherbourg is a fantastic crossing, cabins, staff are always helpful and pleasant.

Communication is good when cancellations of delays happen.

Horrific.

Horrific.

I have had problems with Brittany Ferries before. One memorable experience was a few years ago. They informed me the trip from Bilbao to Ireland was cancelled as the "Connemara" vessel had engine trouble. I and my partner, since deceased, drove from Bilbao to Cherbourg - to find the Connemara to take us to Ireland - quelle surprise.

The boat from Bilbao or Santander gets cancelled multiple times. Bad weather, a nervous breakdown or whatever.

This time was genuine bad weather. However, I am travelling with a traumatised 55 kilo rescue Spanish Mastiff 12 month old dog. They told me there was no space for him whatsoever in December due to the cancellation on the route from Bilbao to Ireland.

I am nearly 70 years old. I am not a timid lady. But, I have had to drive from Granada up to northern France with a terrified huge rescue dog. I have my daughter- but she does not have a driving licence. I had driven down a few days before.

I cannot describe the stress. The poor dog urinated in the car.

I chose not to take their route from Cherbourg to Ireland. Why would I - it would probably be cancelled due to whatever bullshit story they would tell.

So, I am now taking a ferry to the UK and then Ireland.

The sheer cruelty is indescribable.

I have probably spent €20k or more with them over the last 10 years. Enough abuse.

Never again, I promise, on my childrens' lives, will I ever take a Brittany Ferries "experience". They are just so totally abusive.

Shame on you to put an elderly lady and an abused rescue dog through this.

No customer loyalty

I booked an early bird sailing to Spain in October for a May 26 sailing. They then offered the same sailing 3 weeks later for £79 less. When I drew this to their attention it was a shambles, they refused to reduce the price I had paid or offer any goodwill.

COLD POOR FOOD.

Sailing from Portsmouth to Ouistream 08.00. Embarked easily onboard the newest ferry, got settled & went to breakfast. We used what is called the HOT counter in the Jardin Cafe, sadly NOTHING on this counter was HOT. You understand that after a long journey, waiting to embark & thinking of a nice HOT breakfast, how miserable it is when the breakfast is totally COLD. I am particularly unhappy about being served a freezing breakfast, the beans, eggs, sausages etc were COLD no warmth in them. I took my breakfast to the servery counter, explained that my breakfast & my colleagues meals were stone cold. The staff just shrugged their shoulders and got busy. We warned as many customers as possible that what was being served was stone cold. We left in disgust. On returning home I e mailed B F ferries to represent the poor quality food & my experience- - - only to.be totally ignored by their customer services as well. We will never spend money on BF again & reccommend folks take there own snacks and food.

Brittany Ferries used to be so good

Brittany Ferries used to be so good. The old self-service restaurant was well-organized, with minimal delays, due to hot food and cold being separated. Now on the St. Malo, there is one queue where you can't see what's available till you get level with it, find there is little choice anyway and wait ages for the privilege. The cappuccino coffee from the machine was quite disgusting and they tried to fob us off with a half cup of hot chocolate
Then they short-changed us.
The cabin beds are extremely uncomfortable, though the rest of the cabin facilities are fine.
On the daytime crossing back to the UK, our ears were assaulted all the way by an appalling racket coming at us over the loudspeaker system. The lady on reception referred to it as music. Most of their passengers are not teenagers and would probably, like us, prefer peace and quiet to read or chat. Wake up BFerries!!

Fantastic service 16 th August 2025. We were going to miss our boat from Cherbourg because of traffic jams along our route and it was such a busy weekend. Our hearts sank at trying to sort out our problem as we were travelling but after a short period of supplying information and a short wait in the queue we were put through and a choice of possibilités offered. We chose to go overnight from Caen with a cabin. The price was reasonable and the organisation impeccable. Thank you Brittany Ferries!

Tried to make a booking from Cherbourg…

Tried to make a booking from Cherbourg to Poole I was told waiting time was approximately 20 minutes I waited 15 minutes only to be told the same I waited a further 5 minutes only to be told the same I waited until the next day to be told the waiting time was approximately 10 minutes after along wait I did eventually get a response only to told that the price was higher than the price due to the fact that I should have booked earlier to get the screen price but as the screen was the same on the departure day is difficult to understand why I was charged extra

In response to my first complaint about…

In response to my first complaint about my dog not being included on my booking form and I later had to pay another £104, after e mailing customer services, yes they did respond on the 18 May 24, just to say they would contact me in two weeks or maybe a bit longer if they were busy, I am still waiting to hear from them , so no Brittany ferries you have done NOTHING! You can not honestly say you have a customer service department because you do not.

Brittany have got it so wrong

We have recently bought a property in Spain so use Brittany frequently on the Portsmouth / Plymouth/ Santander / Bilbao routes. I wasn't compelled to write a review until recently travelling on the P&O route to Rotterdam from Hull. The difference is night and day. Not sure where Brittany is going wrong. Possibly the French crew don't help. As far as the culinary experience is concerned I guess the French think they have an upper hand over the Roast Beefs English. No banter and a look down their nose is enough to set you off on the wrong foot as you arrive at either their woeful self service cafe or their zero choice menu in the restaurant. Either choice is pitiful. I guess , at least, we have to be joyful over the brimming coolbox in our cabin - it saves the day ( or the two night / two day trip depending on which way you are going)'. Parallel that against the Philippono staffed Pride of Hull and the upbeat banterful staff and their new incredible menu. In the last month since they had a shake down, their menu in both the buffet kitchen and the restaurant is so much better and absolutely knocks the French into a cocked hat. Seriously Brittany, you really need to up your game. (Don't get me started on the entertainment, or lack of, on the 36 hour trip)!

Jayne the helpful

Jayne was so helpful and made me feel like a real customer. Understood the issues I was having making an amendment to booking as I was struggling to book a seat only to find they are not available on this crossing, still was sorted. Also your website cost differs from your agents figure which is no help to Jayne and needs resolving.

Very helpful customer service line

Very helpful customer service line. Had to call up to book Portsmouth to Caen as I need to take my small animal with me and the lady was friendly and made everything super easy. All booked within 10 minutes.
