When it comes to fresh fish, Browne Trading has the best. Given that Browne pays a premium to top fishermen and distributors, we ensure our Michelin chefs and home gourmands alike receive the freshest fish, shellfish, and ethically sourced seafood. We source local Maine favorites like uni, bluefin tuna, oysters, and fresh lobster meat. From afar, we carry coveted carabinero prawns, wild Portuguese specialties, and sustainably farmed Veta la Palma fish.
Browne Trading proudly crafts small-batch smoked seafood at our Portland location. Our boutique smoke house cures, brines, smokes, slices, and packages our smoked salmon, scallops, sturgeon, and more using a cold smoke method.
When it comes to caviar, Browne Trading is the only company in the US that co-brands with caviar partner farms. We work closely with sturgeon farms in Belgium, Italy, Israel, China, and the U.S.A. to ensure transparent sourcing and the highest quality.

Easy to use website
Easy to use website. Easy to get information about all the different types of caviar. Great that I can search by imported/domestic/etc. Delivery was made on the date chosen. Everything was well wrapped and cold when it arrived. Had we not been home for any reason, it would have been fine for another day. Very nice experience and I would recommend to others.

"Super fresh Nantucket bay scallops!" No, not really. Despite currently being in-season, Browne is selling scallops that were frozen over a year ago! (harvested 11/4/22, frozen 11/5/22, shipped 12/5/23). Quality was poor, and they were not worth eating. It also took multiple emails and eventually a phone call to get a full refund (2nd star only because shipping was eventually refunded by a different customer rep). Will not order from Browne again.

Thank you for leaving some feedback on your recent order. I understand that you were not satisfied with the quality of the Nantucket Scallops and I see that we processed a refund per your request.
I wanted to add a bit of context to this product.
The Nantucket Bay scallops are vacuumed sealed and super frozen from harvest (at -40 degrees or less), which is standard practice in the seafood industry. We are proud to carry a selection of premium fresh seafood online, but we love frozen seafood too! Super freezing impeccably locks in taste, color, texture and nutrients, and of course it ensures the seafood can be enjoyed for months to come. We would never try to pass off frozen product as fresh, which is why the Nantucket scallops are labeled as frozen and sold in the frozen collection of our website.
Indeed, perishability is the reason why we don't sell fresh Nantucket scallops. These scallops are harvested on weekly schedule, and when they are delivered to us, we would have a very limited amount time to ship them to customers before their quality declines. Customers often order their seafood to eat over the weekend, and we would not be able to guarantee the scallops' quality over multiple days of transit and storage.
So while Nantucket Bay scallops are in season now, we genuinely do not believe customers' expectations would be satisfied with a fresh product in this case.
While we can't change the experience you had, I hope that gives some more context to this product and our decision-making. If you ever want to try something else, please email us at customerservice@brownetrading.com and we would be happy to extend a discount code to use on a future order.

Great Caviar, In Spite of Delivery Questions.
The Royal Belgian Osetra Caviar that I ordered as a gift was thoroughly enjoyed by the recipient. This would have been a 5star rating except UPS did something weird on the delivery and left it at what they called "Other". Unfortunately no "Other" address was specified on the order, just a primary physical address. We tracked the package down but still don't understand why it was left where it was.

I haven’t received my current order yet, but past experience with Browne Trading Company is excellent. Orders always arrive on the date I chose and I’m always happy with my caviar choices. I’ve tried other companies in the past but I’ve narrowed it down to Browne only. Never disappointed!

I was a little disappointed with the Langostinos..They used to come in a cardboard box and they were much larger, and I thought they were from New Zealand before, not Norway as they are now. They are quite expensive so I doubt I would order them again
These were in a flat Styrofoam box and they were all frozen together so it was not possible to remove a few frozen ones, keeping the rest for future
