Attempted scam through fake car‑check request
I recently listed my car for sale on AutoTrader and was contacted by someone pretending to be a genuine buyer. They asked me to run a “car check” on my own vehicle using CarCheckPro.co.uk before they would view it.
The site charges around £40–£60 per search, and the person tried to make it sound like a normal step in the buying process. However, this is not standard practice — legitimate buyers never ask sellers to pay for a report on their own car.
After checking the website and comparing it with trusted services like AutoTrader and HPI, it became clear this was an attempted scam. The goal seems to be to trick sellers into paying small amounts that add up across many listings.
I didn’t lose money, but I’m posting this review to warn others. If you’re selling a car and someone insists you use CarCheckPro.co.uk or similar sites, do not pay — it’s a waste of time and money. Always use recognised platforms like AutoTrader or HPI for vehicle checks.
