Woeful…
If the Scottish Government had any competence they'd be all over Chargeplace Scotland and sort out both the network and the provider.
The App in particular is woeful and not fit for purpose.... painfully slow, doesn't show previous charging sessions, map search function worse than useless, keeps opening saying it's sent a code to your email address, which it doesn't. The reviews on the App store say it all!
3rd world technology.
Thank goodness I only lease an EV. At the end of the lease period I will be reverting to petrol.
Nice to see they're serious about saving the planet with such abysmal infrastructure, technology and support.
Shocking holding fee charge!
I used to use these chargers for my electric car but now chargeplace scotland have decided to take a £40 holding fee and have the cheek to take the price of the charge also! They dont refund the holding fee and give it back for 7 days, absolutely shocking service, I prefer to use the EV charge points at starbucks etc now. Get this sorted Chargeplace Scotland no need.
Terrible
Terrible. Avoid at all costs. Over 10 pre authorisations, still not refunded for only 2 charges that worked.
Unfit to operate
I'm new to electric cars, but I'm shocked how bad Chargeplace Scotland is.
If the government want people to move over to EVs they need to offer a reliable app, service and chargers.
The app is constantly crashing or unavailable. I've had to phone in a few times for assistance when the app has crashed and I can't stop a charge.
Sometimes I've not been able to start charge as I can't log in. The app wants to send an activation code, but it wants to send it to someone else's email address.
I've been trying to start a charge and had numerous £40 deductions trying to start the charge. It turns out even though the chargers are listed on the app, and there is no information on the charger saying otherwise, the charger can't be controlled by the app. It is RFID card only.
If it's not connected to the app how does it attempt to start and deduct £40 each time?
So many of the chargers are broken.
The app can't navigate to the charging stations.
The app defaults to Edinburgh as the location. I've to manually work out where I am.
There is not one aspect of the Chargeplace Scotland service that is acceptable. It's unbelievably bad.
Duplicate charge for charging car at an…
Duplicate charge for charging car at an Aberdeen CCS charger. Same price for 2 different days 3 days apart. Complained to their so called help desk to no avail. Provided evidence from my bluelink app. Showing car was not charged on the 2nd date. Both charges exactly same price and wattage. Basically stolen money with no goods provided.
Refuse to refund blaming me. Useless.
If I could give no stars I would.
Never had such a frustrating experience
Had to give one star because I can’t give none.
Due to a failure in there app they ring fenced over a 100 pounds, money I needed, gave me no charge and have not responded to any of the numerous emails I’ve sent.
This from an organisation that works on behalf of Transport Scotland.
Their intransigence, I guess is that they have the monopoly on chargers in the town and the nearest chargers are miles away.
It should also be noted that within the town, they charge different rates per KWH, different minimum fees and different overstay charges. There is no continuity of service or charging policy.
Utterly frustrating and disappointing. This company is shambolic to say the least
Absolute shambles of a company
Absolute shambles of a company. Changed from paying monthly to pay when you charge. Then you get invoices through charging for a time 4 weeks previously when you thought you paid. Chargers are broke and take weeks to fix, then only work a few days and out of service again.
Can't change email address on account…
Can't change email address on account "it's not possble".
Can't set up new account as instructed to get around their lousy website as my phone number is already in use.
Can't transfer account as a 3 year old bill they claim is not paid - which they have never taken from my Direct Debit, or asked for.
This organisation is comically inept.
I wouldn't use CPS ever again - Avoid
Another negative review on my inability to charge my car.
I went to the 50kWh charger in Aberlour and was away for 1hr and 10min and the charger only added 13.4kWh to my car. Of course there is a premium price of 56p/kWh @50kWh chargers but this was not the service I received. Pre-payment of £40 was taken. Assuming that this was a one off issue I tried another CPS station in Hopeman. The 1st attempt took another £40 pre-payment but the charger came up with a fault. Resetting didn't work but as I was desperate to add charge to my vehicle, I tried again. Guess what, another £40 pre-payment. So in total I prepaid £120 to CPS and achieved little in return. I called the helpline and although the agent confirmed the second point was faulty, they could do no more to help. Another issue I have with CPS is the £10 surcharge if you stay over 100minutes. These charge points also have a 22kWh charging option, so if like me you have a car that is 77kWh capacity, you will be unable to fully charge your car in 100min time limit and thus a further £10 charge will be your reward. In the meantime, I'm waiting for the refund of almost £113. In the end I went to a PodPoint in Tesco, 10 miles away to get a 50kWh charger that worked first time.
Haven’t managed to charge my car yet…
Haven’t managed to charge my car yet using chargeplace Scotland. App is a shambles, full of bugs and does not work, £100s of pending payments on my account, charge sessions which have started, not actually charged and can’t end them. This company and services are a complete shambles.
One star is generous
Making a family trip up the west coast of Scotland unnecessarily stressful. Three failed payment attempts on the app in Inveraray and no EV charge, travel onto Lochgilphead and a further failed EV charge now £120 down on pending bank charges!!! A quick call to the ChargePlaceScotland operator who tells me ‘these old chargers in rural locations don’t work with the app’???? But they’ve taken my money!?!?!
The same helpful assistant tells me he can start the charge at Lochgilphead remotely. 25 minutes later and an entire reboot of the system we finally get a charge.
A joke of an organisation
A joke of an organisation, out of their depth and supported by Transport Scotland so they are insulated from the consequences of their incompetence
Chargeplace Scotland are a shambolic.
Chargeplace Scotland are a shambolic mess when it comes to customer service. I am from Australia and had an EV booked for the month I was there. I am very used to driving an EV. My wife and I planned on doing the NC500 and needed to be able to charge. The advice from CPS was to obtain a RFID card. Firstly you can not download their app from overseas. Secondly there was no option for a shipping address so the card was sent to Australia. I applied a month before travel and the card arrived the day before we left to fly to UK. Too late I had ordered a RFID card from octopus Electroverse which can be used at CPS chargers.
I tried to delete my account with CPS. Eventually found a form hidden in the CPS FAQ's and sent it off. Supposed to take 7 days. A month later as we were about to leave UK I rang and asked about deletion of account. The fellow on the phone was very friendly and assured me that the account would be deleted by end of day. Heard nothing more but a few days later i tried to log in to CPS and was told that password was incorrect. I assume that this meant my account was deleted but do not know. More emails to CPS to find out if account has been deleted. Not holding my breath for any response.
If you are travelling Scotland use Octopus Electroverse. Do NOT bother with CPS. Shambolic.

Authorised £35 from my card and charger didn’t work told it’ll take 7 days to get my money back
Stupidly had to use one of their chargers today preauthorised £45 got back after charging said bill was )35 but no there’s hidden overstay costs £57 not only that they then take the £57 from my account on top of the pre authorisation which again takes 7 working days to be refunded so they have £80 of my money and I have to wait more than a well to get it back and hat if I had no money they are a joke and I’ll never ever use one of their chargers again
Absolutely Shocking Company. Avoid.
Absolutely shocking company. The app will tell you there's points available nearby to use, then you'll arrive and they're broken. So you go somewhere else and everything should be working. You plug it and ask the app to charge (why you can't just present a card at the machine, I don't know!) and it takes a £40 pre-authorisation charge out of your account. Then you get the error message and try to start the charge again. ANOTHER £40. You decide against a third time because of this and then you noticed you haven't had your £80 returned. You read reviews on here saying it takes 7-14 days. This is daylight robbery and quite frankly, this company needs investigating.
Shambolic!!
Shambolic!!
They are outdated and even if they do work, which is hit and miss, the chargers are too complicated. Why on earth do they insist on putting them in car parks where we have to pay to park? Would anyone pay to park at Esso to fill up? Why are they not taking a good look at the reviews and trying to do better? If I were Scottish I would be embarrassed to have the Scottish name on this poor excuse for a charging network, come on over to England and see how it should be done.
Once again been charged the £35 hold…
Once again been charged the £35 hold fee only for the charger to mysteriously not work. Makes you try again which takes a further £35 hold fee. 7 days later no sign of the money returned. No return to emails about this but they can reply to other things. Really need to be challenged this company.
Unreliable and useless company
Worst company ever. Useless customer service, cards that don't work despite having to pay to get one. Irregular billing and hours on the phone trying to charge is costing me and my business a fortune. About time the government was giving these clowns the boot
Absolutely horrendous they are worse than Dick Turpin
Absolutely horrendous. Tried to charge our car at Sheilds Road and it’s taken £115 from our account. So thanks you’ve ruined our day out with our granddaughter as it’s whipped all the money we had for our day out. Need to wait 7 days until we get it back!!! get an electric car they said, it’ll save you money they said, it’s good for the environment they said! Useless when you trip over petrol stations and the EV stations are as much use as a chocolate firegaurd!
Terrible
Terrible. App is aweful, cant initiate payment by any method (app, website or at charge point) Unable to get even close to charging anything except my annoyance.
