I had to use checkboard to prove my ID for the sale of a relatives house in the UK. Since I don't live in the UK (although do have a UK passport) it was a revelation to use private identity verification systems like this. In Finland we have digital ID and the system proves your identity in about 15 seconds without sharing any private data with the company wanting to verify your ID. Of course, the UK is far behind and full of annoying private companies like checkboard doing this kind of service with scans of passports and "video selfies". I had to download the stupid checkpoint app and agree to all kinds of private data being shared with them. Perhaps brits are used to handing over this data to third parties but I deeply resent it, plus the app crashing when I took a photo of my electricity bill .. for sure that validates my address!! .. I could have put it together in photoshop in 10 minutes. Good luck to checkboard if they want to query the data from my finnish electricity company.. we have such a thing as privacy laws here. Deeply hope never to have to use an annoying system like checkboard again. Obviously many others are annoyed because the text messages from checkboard go direct to spam, meaning many other people have marked their messages as spam before I used the app and I had to dig out the OTP sent to my phone from the spam folder (I have never had a text message from a finnish company go straight into the spam folder)

Very helpful when my app was not working. They helped me upload my documents within 10 minutes. I used their Web chat which was very convenient. And all was sorted. App very simple and easy to use on your mobile.

Experiences of a married couple
My wife and I are gifting a sum from our joint account towards a deposit on a house for our son. c/b treated us as individuals, not as a couple, refused to talk to us together and insisted we enter data separately which led to confusion when entering financial details later. It took us several hours over 2 days to have our input approved by c/b. We found c/b to very clunky. Scanning of documents by camera was difficult to manage. Verification of id by passport instructions were vague. Upload of documents from computer by drag and drop did not work, eventually tried click and select which worked. When it came to entry of transaction amount we remain totally confused as c/b kept asking for whole of house purchase price, not what we were gifting. And we both had to enter a non zero gifting amount. Gave up and were informed by AI that "flow" is complete, but we remain confused and will wait and see what result is. We understood this to be an anti money laundering check and had prepared documentation to show source of funds, but all c/b did was ensure we had a balance in an account to cover the transaction. A final comment: from the responses we got we believe we were chatting with an ill-informed AI, not a person

I was in a pickle trying to upload some documents so I tried the messaging service as the wait time on the phone was too long.
It stated I would get a reply within 20 minutes and they didn’t disappoint. After the initial chatbot questions I was soon connected to a real life human being who was quick to investigate the problem.
He very kindly found the problem and even offered to do the steps for me.
The whole issue was resolved with half my lunch hour to spare, and in fairness I was able to eat my food during the process.
I was very happy with the service and would recommend it to anybody.

Hated it
Firstly as someone with a disability, this app is not inclusive at all. It expects you to have a steady hand and be able to take scans within a certain amount of seconds, even wanting you to hold still while scanning a chip on your passport or it won't work. What about those who can't stay still and don't have family members close by to help. Highly unhelpful.
On top of that it asked it asked for details I only had on my computer, which led to alot of messing about which wouldn't have happened if this was available online instead of an app format.
Also, and mostly, I didn't like all of the 'proof' they required and depth of questions asked. For all that data to be put in one place is frightening, and can easily lead to identity theft and I hated that it can be a requirement if you want to work with someone. They simply should not be allowed to gather even half of what they asked me for.
A bad experience on many levels!
