Unreliable Card

Like Ian, who posted a one-star review on the 13th April 2026, I have also had my Currensea card frozen. I have had the card for several years during which time there have been no problems of any kind. When the card was frozen I asked for further details. Here is a summary of Currensea’s reply: Currensea can freeze your card at any time without warning. They say that this is a “regulatory obligation” but I as have never experienced this from any other card provider I presume it is a regulatory requirement internal to Currensea. They say that the card will be unfrozen as soon as you supply them with the requested documents, but as Ian’s one-star review shows this is incorrect; there may be a significant delay before they unfreeze your card. I also asked about the timing of freezing your card. Currensea replied that “we don’t freeze cards simply because they’re being used abroad” (how reassuring). In other words Currensea can suddenly, without prior warning, freeze your card when you are on holiday or on business abroad. Thankfully I was at home when my card was frozen, but if it had happened a few weeks earlier I would have been a lone traveller in Egypt with intermittent email access. No doubt The Currensea Team will follow up this one-star review with a placatory reply explaining why it is all so necessary to freeze cards without warning, but what you have to ask yourself is do you want to rely on a debit card that can be suddenly be inactivated while you are in a foreign country?

Currensea protects your interests.

When I disputed a spurious payment which had been deducted from my account Currensea could not have been more helpful. After several exchanges of email, most notablly with Cameron at Currensea, the issue was resolved and my account was refunded. Five star service, thank you!

Poor customer back up.

Card frozen and after supplying the requested details to Currensea I have head nothing.

When a problem occurs it's very difficult to speak to an actual person. A chatbot cannot sort some problems. Very frustrated and dissappointed.

We want to assure you that there is 'always' the option for the issue to be escalated to a 'human' agent if our chatbot is not able to resolve your issue, and the customer always has the option to ask for a 'human' agent. The chatbot is in place so that customers can have assistance 24/7 (often for simple, self serve issues).

Great card to have

Just great to know you can pay for items easily, without having to carry lots of currency. Useful for paying for excursions from your holiday operator such as with TUI. Just need to remeber your pin number for largest payments.
I still carry currency for emergencies, but most places except the card quite happily.

Cameron and Tsvetozar were excellent and dealt with my challenge appropriately and very timely. Tsvetozar kept in touch with me and told me what I need to know when I needed to know without prompting.

The Currensea card works everywhere.

The Currensea card works everywhere.
The regular emails and speed of reporting the conversion of Euros to Pounds is impressive.
Great service I would recommend it to anyone going on holiday. No need to take great wads of foreign currency.

The card easy to use never been…

The card easy to use never been declined used in a few countries so far would imagine recoup £4.95 postage fee in about half a dozen transactions with savings on fees abroad would recomend

Great solution for currency payments while travelling

Convenient and well thought through approach to foreign currency transactions. Great FX rates and very clear and easy to use App. The only small annoyance is that the direct debit system means that payments sometime take 3+ days to process through your actual bank account but the status of all payments is clear and easy to see.

Very simple and straightforward

I have held this card for 2 years and have found that it is accepted everywhere I have tried to use it and I get a much better exchange rate than local offers. I get an email almost immediately confirming my spend and the money leaves my bank account a couple of days later. Be simple and straightforward with no need to set up a new bank account
