Diamond house plumbing scammed us
We had a pipe leak in our backyard while we were out of town. Josh from Diamond house plumbing. Came out and said that we needed to replace all of our pipes. He quoted me a price of $38,925.00 to Repipe our house. I asked Josh if they offered financing and he asked if we could put half of the total down, I told him unless we could finance the entire amount we couldn’t afford it. He said he thought that he could get me a loan. I explained that I had pretty good credit, but that my husband was the one who had the income, that he didn’t have great credit. He had recently had some serious health issues. Josh took all of my information and put me on hold. After several minutes he came back on the line & said I had been approved for 100% of the loan and that my payments would be $570.00 per month to which there would be no penalty if I wanted to pay off the loan at anytime. I was sent the loan papers through docusign to which I signed all of the loan papers. I explained to Josh that my husband and I were to get on a cruise ship the next morning and that I would basically be unreachable, so I gave Josh both our son and daughters numbers in case they needed to speak to someone while I was away. They never tried to.
About the 3rd day into the cruise I got an email from Diamond house asking me to call them. I emailed back and said, that the following day I’d call once I was in port and my phone worked. The receptionist of Diamond house said that the loan company needed to add my husband to the loan. I asked why I thought that I had been approved. She said that i was, but because my husband made the money he had to be added. I gave her his information and for the remainder of the cruise neither I nor my husband heard anything else. So we assumed everything was good. When we got home I was appalled at the condition in which the workers had left our home. There wasn’t a square inch that wasn’t covered in thick Sheetrock dust. Again I had explained my husbands illness to Josh and could understand why they hadn’t attempted to tarp any of our furniture. Or put up plastic zipper walls as other contractors have done in the past. There were giant holes both inside and out covered by garbage bags and duct tape in which the outside holes plastic keeps coming off. We have sprinklers which are spraying these exposed holes. In Josh’s original sales pitch he said, that they would take care of all of the drywall. After the fact it gets backtracking saying that he said they would patch the drywall and I said no, your exact words to me was that you would take care of all of the drywall. Then he said that they would honor this. Upon arriving home in 100+ temperatures we found that our air conditioning would not come on. It was working perfectly before we left for our trip. After further inspecting I found several electrical outlets also to have zero power to them. We turned the breakers boxes on and off to no avail they no longer work. Their workers broke a marble double sink vanity top in several places to which Josh said oh whoever installed it, installed it incorrectly. They were taking no responsibility for any of the damages their workers caused. They changed all of our hot and cold taps with an ugly plate with a single leaver like hotels have without asking our permission, they installed this big ugly water filter on the side of my hose that has not even been plugged in. When I asked Josh why it hadn’t been plugged in, he said that Andrew could run an Extention cord” What the heck this doesn’t sound safe to me. We were told the loan did not go through two days after returning home from our trip. We were never told this information & they continued to work even though I had explicitly told Josh we could not do the Repipe without full financing.
Immediately Josh is asking me how are we going to pay them. I repeated to Josh our conversation about not being able to afford this without financing. He starts pressuring me to put the cost on credit cards. I told him we didn’t have any high limit cards. I told him that we would have to try to get a line of credit.
We have yet to secure another loan. I told Josh we could make a payment that day for $2000.00 I then get a bill via email for $3,090.00 I emailed the receptionist and let her know that I had explained to Josh that we could make a $2000.00 payment that day.
I then got a payment request for $2,090.00 they said because i was paying with a credit card they had to charge me 3% this is illegal in Ca civil code section 1748.1
So so far I have paid $2090.00 of a bill that I was told I had been approved for. I feel all work should have been halted until they could contact me to get my permission to proceed or not. I would have said no and to just fix the pipe.
We feel like we were tricked, and lied to. Our house is in shambles & Josh said they will not fix anything until we pay 50%. Which we told him we did not have in hence needing financing
