Dogsled and Ice Academy ApS Avis 5

I found this an enjoyable trip into the Greenlandic backcountry. Our guide Morgan was friendly, knowledgeable and clearly competent. I learned lots about Greenland, its culture and everyday life from chatting during the trip.

Exceptionally, so far this year despite frozen conditions, there has been little snow at lower levels. This means that the sled dogs can’t be looked after up in the mountains at the moment and so our tour itinerary had to change. We were aware of this in advance.

Morgan put together an interesting alternate tour where we met the sled dogs at the base, ATV’d and hiked up to the snow line and then were snowmobiled further into the mountain to a view point of the fjord and icebergs. This was followed by some hot food and drink in a hut on a frozen lake. We have some exceptional photos and it was great fun.

The hiking conditions were at times challenging underfoot and the weather changeable, but its Greenland, so not unexpected! It felt well organised and appropriate for the group.

I was impressed by DogSled-Ice-Academy’s efforts to adapt to the unprecedented lack of snow to ensure we could still have an enjoyable trip into the backcountry. I think if you try to wait for perfect conditions in Greenland in winter you would never get anything done so adaptability is key.

Jeg havde fornøjelsen af at være på fisketur, paddleboard og hvalsafari med Dogsled & Ice Academy. Det var helt fantastiske ture. En kæmpe anbefaling herfra til alle, der vil opleve naturen omkring Ilulissat.

A fantastic trip, starting with snowscooter followed by dogsledride to a vistapoint, where the icecap, gletcher and icefjord where visible. Owner Jørgens professional handling of the dogs gave us a very pleseant feeling. Best dogsaledride in Ilulissat.
