I am very disappointed with my current experience using EndNote.

I purchased EndNote 20 and expected to be able to continue using it, especially for basic functions such as working with Microsoft Word. However, after changing my computer, EndNote 20 no longer works properly with Word. The Cite While You Write function does not communicate properly with my Word documents, and I am left with a software version I already paid for but cannot use effectively.

What is most frustrating is that the apparent solution seems to be upgrading to a newer version, such as EndNote 25. I do not want to pay again for a new version simply because I changed my computer. A purchased software license should remain functional, especially when the user is not asking for new features, only for the version they paid for to keep working.

I am baffled by this experience. EndNote is supposed to support researchers, faculty, students, and professionals, not create unnecessary technical barriers or pressure users into paid upgrades. Customers who purchased EndNote 20 should still be supported with clear instructions, compatible plugins, and a reasonable way to use the software on a new computer.

At this point, I cannot recommend EndNote 20 to anyone who may need to change computers or reinstall the software. The experience has been frustrating, confusing, and disappointing.

Quite shockingly poor app (EN 2025 for Mac), and very expensive. I really regret buying it.

Good points: it's quick at identifying the papers it recognises, but seems to miss far too many and is oddly restricted in its searches.

Bad points: compared to any other reference manager I've used, it's staggeringly inept at syncing with Endnote on other computers, and also with tablets and phones. Every time you open a page in the help site, it redirects you elsewhere; that's really poor, and suggests that Clarivate are lazy and don't really care.

I may be wrong, but I didn't get the impression that you could sync multiple libraries.

It can't cope with importing a large amount of existing pdfs. It comes to a grinding halt with tedious regularity on a Mac that should easily cope. I could go on, but hopefully you get the drift.

For an app that considers itself the gold standard in reference management, it is so far behind the competition that its self-regard is quite arrogant. If only I could think of a way to get my money back ...

Never ever ever use EndNote. Use open-source software instead. Difficult to use. Generic error messages nobody understands and errors nobody can solve. This software wasted hours of my life. Useless

I have used endnote for 3 years. It works well most of the time and has all the necessary features that other similar softwares has.

However, endnote word add on needs an internet connection to add any refernces. This is huge problem. Also click plugin does not work all the time.

Endnote is sssslllllooooowwww! It crashes, it hasn't figured out how to connect to one drive, import FDA references and so many other things. AVOID!

The new endnote has horrible integration. I took me hours to be able to join a shared library. They just keep making you buy new licenses that you don't need. The user interface is worse than the classic.

This company's subscription practices are unconscionable

I Cancelled my free subscription to endnote before the free trial period expired but Cleverbridge charged me $275.00 anyway and won’t respond to communication. My advice is don’t get started with it.

Ich hatte eine 21-tägige kostenlose Testversion, die ich nach weniger als einer Stunde gekündigt habe, weil ich festgestellt habe, dass sie für mich ungeeignet ist. Jetzt habe ich eine Zahlungsaufforderung über 310 € erhalten. Ich habe ihnen einen Screenshot geschickt, der beweist, dass mein Konto so eingestellt ist, dass es nicht automatisch verlängert/aktualisiert wird, aber meine E-Mail ist nicht durchgekommen. Ich halte das für einen Betrug und habe es meiner örtlichen Verbraucherschutzbehörde gemeldet.

I downloaded a free trial because it was advertised as working with Google Docs. I then found out I needed to purchase the full version to use that feature. After I purchased and began using, I discovered the Google Docs feature is riddled with errors and is unusable. I then got an email that I was going to be charged (again) for the trial version even though I already purchased the full version. When I tried to delete my card info I couldn't. I emailed the support via the link in the email they sent me, and got bounce backs as undeliverable. I went on the website to find a better email, and when you click on the options to contact support they don't go anywhere or take you to a blank page. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT

EndNote is great. But, ended up paying over 300 $ for a year's membership, after a month free trial. Just needed the free trial. So now it ended up being a really expensive experience for me. Customer service just told me that this is my problem. Want to recommend the product, but this experience makes me unsure of the overall experience. I guess if you get access through an organisation the experience should be better.

I've used Endnote for >10 years and it works good most of the time.. Saving traveling libraray, however, always causes problems. Don't know why that works so bad and why that can't be fixed !!

I emailed in July regarding my update, and have had no response. I have purchased endnote 21, but am unable to sign into my online account as it does not recognize my credentials.
I have used endnote for years, but may be looking for a more responsive program.

The management of libraries is very confusing. THe elimination of duplicates also leads to missing references and is very cumbersome.

New release (EndNote 21.0.1) has obvious bug in author lists, listing an extra author in several styles I use. Used to work fine, now broken. A fix is supposedly in the works, but we're almost 3 months past release. A failure of your QC process.

Spent the money and couldn't use the product. Now I'm struggling to get a refund.

I am a doctoral student, and EndNote does everything I need to do as a reference manager. I use APA 7, and EndNote handles the citations and reference entries well. I find attaching a pdf copy of the article a useful feature.
