Automated Opt-Out Process With No Meaningful Way to Escalate
I am extremely disappointed with my experience trying to protect my personal information on FastBackgroundCheck.
I followed the company's published Do Not Sell/Right to Opt-Out process exactly as instructed. I submitted my request multiple times using accurate identifying information. Every request was automatically denied within approximately 2–3 minutes, indicating there was no meaningful manual review.
I then tried every contact method the company provides. The listed phone number redirects callers back to the same website that automatically denies the request. Customer support states they do not process privacy requests by email and instructs consumers to use the same online form that immediately rejects the request. As a result, there appears to be no way to speak with a person, obtain a manual review, or meaningfully appeal a denial.
My concern is the amount of personal information publicly displayed. My profile includes my current home address, satellite imagery pinpointing my residence, property ownership information, estimated home value, approximately 25 years of address history, phone numbers, email address, relatives, and information about my family members.
This has become more than a privacy issue. I have previously been the victim of identity theft and have had unknown individuals appear at my residence. When I confronted them about how they found me, they specifically told me they located my information through FastBackgroundCheck.
I understand that much of this information may originate from public records. My concern is that FastBackgroundCheck aggregates all of it into one easily searchable profile while providing no meaningful way for consumers like me to have legitimate opt-out requests manually reviewed.
Consumers deserve a functioning opt-out process and access to a real person when the automated system fails. Until that exists, I cannot recommend this company.
