utterly appalling…
Have had the most utterly appalling experience with Handy Experts. After using them for years we booked them in to instal our new electric oven and cap the gas on the old one. The gas fitter was very late, no notifications, and basically spent 10 mins on the house when we’d pad for an hour. But he did eventually turn up and do what he was asked to do so no big deal. The electrician spent all day installing the new cables, and installing the oven. But when left it didn’t work. We called him and he was dismissive and certified his work as up to to code. He wouldn’t come back. Our oven didn’t work. I spent a stressful day on to the retailer and manufacturers who all said it wasn’t installed correctly and would have to charge me to resolve. Eventually Handy Experts sent another electrician who discovered the wires had come loose when the I’ve was pushed into place. So had been insufficiently wired in and that feels dangerous. Then Handy Experts refuse to acknowledge the issue. Despite the second electrician having told me verbally and in writing that it wasn’t wired correctly. Despite repeated contact with the company they are refusing to own the issue and are now threatening to take me to court. They offered £100 off as a good will gesture off a £700 bill. They have totally dismissed my safety concerns. If I could afford to I’d get legal advice. Utterly disgusting. Will never use again.

Both the gas and electrical work were completed to current safety regulations and fully certified. When you let us know your oven wasn’t working, we immediately arranged for another qualified electrician to visit within 24 hours, free of charge. He found that a connection had come loose when the oven was pushed back into place — not that the installation itself was unsafe — and he fixed it on the spot.
To apologise for the inconvenience, we also offered a £100 goodwill discount from the original invoice. Unfortunately, the reduced balance remained unpaid for over a month, which is why the account was referred for possible legal recovery — something we only do as a last resort after several reminders.
We truly value your custom over the years and are sorry that this experience fell short of expectations. If you’d like to talk it through, our customer care team would be more than happy to help.

I have used Handy Experts twice and have been very impressed on both occasions. It was easy to book someone, the price was fair and the work was done well. The plumber and electrician arrived on time and contacted me beforehand to confirm the time for arrival. I will use Handy Experts again and can certainly recommend them.

Shockingly poor aftercare – would not recommend
I used Handy Experts in July 2024 for some electrical work. At the time, I was impressed: the electrician arrived promptly, was friendly and efficient, and completed the job to what seemed a high standard. One of the tasks was installing a new light fitting and switch.
Fast forward just 15 months and that light has already failed. I rang Handy Experts expecting some level of accountability, only to be told bluntly that their work is only guaranteed for six months. In other words, even if the fault is due to shoddy workmanship, I would be charged the full fee again for them to put it right.
For a company that charges at the higher end of the market, this is astonishingly poor customer service. It is not unreasonable to expect electrical work to last more than six months, nor to expect a company to stand by its workmanship for a reasonable period of time. Six months is barely long enough to discover whether there’s a deeper problem.
Handy Experts clearly prefer to wash their hands of customers the moment the minimal guarantee period expires. To me, this is a complete failure of responsibility and not what I’d expect from a company with such good reviews.
Unless they are willing to put this right without charging me again, I cannot recommend Handy Experts and will certainly not be using them again.

We are sorry that you felt the aftercare you received was not up to standard, and indeed our standard policy would have been to send an electrician straightaway but that was missed.
However, since receiving your review we did send someone out free of charge, and he found that the issue was not to do with the integrity of the light fitting or workmanship, but simply a blown bulb that he then replaced for free.

I was in need of an electrician
I was in need of an electrician for my fuse box how keep tripping. I find handy experts through checkatrade and they replied very quickly. I talk to them on the phone, the lady was charming and very efficient. Even if I didn't get a visit on the same day. She find somebody (Dany) for the following day. Dany was on time and did a very thorough check of the damage circuit. I was gaven a detail report, an estimation of the work to be cary out and an emergency option. The all process was carm, friendly and professional.
