Adam Hampton at the Bedford Office, was engaged by another Executor (there were 3 of us Executors, me and 2 members of the same family, to give this context).

I was involved in the administration of my late Godmother's significant estate and, unfortunately, my experience with this firm was characterised by poor communication, a lack of transparency and repeated failures to address legitimate concerns.

Despite several written and verbal requests, I never received confirmation regarding potential conflicts of interest. And concerns relating to estate funds being held in an Executor's personal account were not satisfactorily addressed.

As a Trustee and beneficiary, I was excluded from some correspondence between Executors relating to estate matters, which made it difficult to understand decisions being made on behalf of the estate.

When suspected fraudulent activity on my Godmother's bank account came to light after her death, I received no practical support in dealing with financial institutions and the police. This added unnecessary complications at an already difficult time.

Important documents often had to be requested repeatedly before they were provided. Communication with beneficiaries was similarly disappointing. More than a year after the death, I suggested a simple update to the 20-plus beneficiaries outlining progress and next steps. Even this required further chasing before any action was taken.

Timescales were another source of frustration. We were advised that the matter could be concluded within four to six weeks, yet four months later I was still seeking updates and the estate remained unresolved.

I was also surprised to discover, more than a year into the process, that I had apparently been designated as the "lead" Trustee without my knowledge or consent. This resulted in responsibilities and correspondence relating to the estate being directed to me, despite no prior discussion or agreement. My requests for clarification on how and when this decision had been made were never fully answered.

I appreciate that estate administration can be complex, particularly where multiple Executors and beneficiaries are involved. However, clear communication, transparency and responsiveness are fundamental professional standards. In my experience, these standards were not consistently met.

We sold a house using Jayne, one of HCB's conveyancers in Leicester.

Throughout, she replied promptly, dealt with my concerns and worries with a phone call and managed our case on a one to one basis unlike a lot of the conveyancing supermarket firms where you speak to different people all the time.

The only problem was that our buyer was using one of said supermarket conveyancers. Problems occurred when things got missed and we suffered a 3 week delay due to an oversight on their part.

At one point, we had a big decision to make as to whether to remarket or stay with our buyer and Jayne spoke with me for 20 minutes used her experience to give me some important context and make a fully informed choice.

I've had the bill through today and it looks incredible value. I think I had one to one oversight of the process from Jayne for the same price as people are paying the conveyancing supermarkets to have ten people look at their file.

When my father had a stroke, he finally agreed that perhaps, he should have arranged power of attorneys.
I contacted HCB, Northampton as they had drawn up his will. They offered to come & see Dad in hospital. I then had to postpone the visit because he became seriously ill with an infection. They were very understanding & helpful.
Once he was well enough they visited him & proceeded with his wishes, keeping me updated along the way.
