We already mostly knew what we wanted in our prenup, so spending a lot of time and money on traditional lawyer services was … daunting. Enter HelloPrenup! It was much more affordable and it saved us the time and hassle of finding a lawyer, coordinating, etc, especially with our busy and often conflicting schedules. It felt a little strange at first, doing a prenup online, but we immediately felt that the platform was credible and trustworthy! Additionally, HelloPrenup’s platform was friendly and un-intimidating, which let us to take our time and comfortably agree on terms without feeling rushed.

Our overall experience with HelloPrenup was incredible! The step-by-step process, beautifully designed interface, and detailed videos and explanations made everything so much easier. Although we didn’t use any of the lawyer consultation services, it was comforting to know it was an option in case we did have any deeper confusions/conflicts/issues! Finally, the Proof notarization package was a huge plus — it was affordable, made everything in one place, and beautifully integrated.

HelloPrenup was super affordable, easy, and fast when it came to getting a prenup prior to getting married. Everything is super straight forward when filling it out which was amazing as we were doing it ourselves. After we finished the paperwork, we used Proof notarization for a notary which was also adorable, easy, and fast all in the comfort of our home via webcam. 100% highly recommend!!

Using HelloPrenup was fast and easy! We were able to complete the entire thing in a day. We didn't need to hire the extra lawyer as we live in Texas so the price was pretty affordable. You do have to get the document notarized at the end which we did virtually through their recommended service. It was an extra $40 but saved us a trip to the bank and allowed us to completely finish in that same day. I obviously can't vouch for how it holds up in a divorce (and hopefully never will) but as far as getting it done they make it very easy and intuitive!

The process was easy, though I wish it was a bit more transparent upfront. It wasn’t necessarily clear what you were paying for before you paid, but the process was easy. I thought the cost included a review by an attorney, but found out at the very end that the review would be an extra cost. Wish it was more transparent from the start.

I was charged $50 for the online notary and the link to go to the online notary was broken. had to go to Proof and pay for the notary in a separate process. I still got charged for the $50 even though the link didn’t work, and the whole process was not streamlined.

Pro's: As an attorney myself I was initially skeptical about the level of service this would provide but willing to give it a try. Because of my experience I did not have any problem figuring out how to answer the questions and as a result, this really helped streamline the data entry portion. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the work product, it was superior to what I had been expecting, and I am very satisfied with it. Due to the design of the website, having both partners entering their answers, identifying the differences in responses, and requiring either partner to agree with the other really prompted open communication to reconcile any issues. I found this to be a very efficient design. My (now) wife and I both wanted the same thing, so our responses were easily reconciled by a conversation, and I felt that this conversation likely strengthened our relationship. Because of these pro's I am happy with what I got. I realize the service is designed to deliver more, however and that is where the rest of this review will focus.

cons:
First, is no trust-building by the website, which essentially requires you to "trust" the service and pay the $600 +/- up front without having any showing of good faith. I understand protecting the work product until payment is received however I would have liked the payment portion to be at the end, after questions answered, everything negotiated, and then ask for payment would have gone a long way to helping me build trust.

Second, there was an offering on the website of $99 for 40 minutes of time with an attorney and this was not really explained. It took me quite a bit of effort, with my background, to figure out that this 40 minutes is strictly to answer questions you may have - nothing more - presumably you could ask general legal questions or specific questions about questionaire as you navigate through the website. It would be better if the website spent some time explaining this, as presumably the 40 minutes would be a single call rather than multiple spontaneous questions adding up to 40 minutes. We did not need this service, but if I were a non-lawyer probably I would opt to go through the questionnaire without help and then save all questions for the end, make the Q&A call with an attorney, then modify the questionnaire after the fact as needed. Again this was not an issue for me but I can see it being an issue for a non-lawyer who may find this add-on service useful if they have a plan.

Third, there is mention on the website of some states "requiring" an attorney signature on the prenuptial under certain circumstances which I felt could have been communicated more clearly. My state (MA) did not "require" this signature however this needs to be distinguished from a personal decision to opt for such a signature on the basis that it may strengthen the agreement if challenged, establishing that both sides where "represented" by counsel vs. "had the chance to ask a lawyer some questions." This was not clear to me and I am sure it would be even more confusing for a non-lawyer. This is the difference between the "Q&A" chance to talk to a lawyer vs. getting the attorney signature which is how it is articualted in helloprenup.

Fourth, if I were to do this again I would start earlier.
I know you can generate a prenup in a day if you are both committed, and that is what I love about this service, however you will likely find that the attorney availability is a limiting factor which was the only pain point for us. One of the helloprenup attorneys was available for my fiance but I had to find an attorney who was not affiliated to represent me, and my fiance loved her experience while I found mine to be stressful.

Suggestions for users of helloprenup: I am glad I used this service, and am very happy with the work product. If you are a lawyer you probably won't need the Q&A service. I opted for the attorney signature even though not required by my state because I think it adds a lot of credibility to the process to have someone actually representing both of you. If you agree and want this up-sell, I highly recommend using one of their affiliated attorneys. If you are using the Q&A service as well, probably the best would be to answer the entire questionnaire and make note of anything you weren't sure about, use the Q&A call to clarify and then circle back and change the questionnaire as needed.
