I CANNOT ADVISE ANY HIGHER - DO NOT USE H&R Block! From an incorrect setup and $2k cost for a trust account that wasn’t required, to the failure of lodging my ever important BAS and GST AND BEING ADVISED WE CANT ACCESS THE ATO portal, what a load of rubbish. I paid them top dollar for less than acceptable accounting that should only be dealt with by a professional CPA. Do your research, look at the reviews here “2”, sadly I cannot give less than a 1. Should be banned

I saw John at Rozelle H&R Block. He was incredibly helpful, kind and knowledgeable.
He talked me through my tax return step by step with patience.
I’ll be booking with John again next year!

Extremely poor US expat tax service. Engaged Siying months before the filing deadline and supplied requested documents well in advance. Poor communication and handling left the filing unresolved close to deadline. Formal concerns were escalated to managers Dante and Joe without a satisfactory resolution. Matter subsequently referred to NSW Fair Trading. Would not use this service again.

I’m so disappointed with not only the service I received but the after-care/follow up.

I wasn’t happy with my tax return as the person doing it was putting things in the wrong section and had to keep asking for help. When I followed up with additional evidence I didn’t receive any reply. I had paid over $350 for the service up front but my tax return was never filed.

I then had to call the office, where I couldn’t get through and was directed to their call centre. I said I was unhappy with the service and wanted a refund.

This was passed onto the Sydney road office - to which I got a call saying they couldn’t help me and they’d have to talk to someone, they said they would update me. I got no update and so followed up then was CC’d in an email telling operations to give me a refund (rather than one actually explaining the process to me).

I’ve then had to call again - which of course I was put through agsin to the call centre and was told they will chase this and hopefully I will get a reply within three working days.

They couldn’t tell me how long it will take to get my money back, and I find it shocking that I can’t get in touch with the office or the team who are apparently dealing with my cancellation.

When I did speak to someone at the Sydney road office I was told “I should have asked for someone more experienced”.

Still waiting for an update - but it’s likely that I’ll have to file a report with the ombudsman.

Extremely disappointed with my experience with H&R Block this year.

My tax return has now been delayed for around eight weeks due to an issue with information that I believe should have been identified and clarified before my return was lodged.

I have had to repeatedly contact both H&R Block and the ATO myself to find out what is actually happening. I was told by H&R Block that they had contacted the ATO, escalated my return and that it would be resolved by 17 September. However, when I contacted the ATO myself on that date, I was told that no escalation had actually been made and that it could take another 2–3 days before someone even contacted me.

I was also told by H&R Block that the ATO had attempted to contact me multiple times without success. The ATO has now confirmed to me that they had not attempted to contact me.

The conflicting information has been incredibly frustrating, particularly when I have had to do the follow-up myself. I also requested that the H&R Block fee be waived given the circumstances, but this was refused.

I understand H&R Block cannot control ATO processing times, but I expected my return to be thoroughly checked before lodgement and expected accurate communication when issues arose.

Unfortunately, this has been a very disappointing experience and not the level of service I expected.

Had a really positive experience at the H&R Block on Newtown for my tax return this year. My consultant, Derek, was friendly and highly professional from the start, and took the time to patiently walk me through every step of the process in plain, simple terms — nothing was rushed or glossed over, even when I asked questions along the way.

It made what can be a fairly stressful task feel straightforward and stress-free. I left feeling confident that everything was handled correctly and that I understood exactly what had been done and why.

Highly recommend Derek and the Enmore Road team if you want a tax return experience that's thorough, clear, and genuinely helpful.

I had an appointment with Cristina A at the Forest Hill office on the 27 July 2026. The appointment did not start well. Christina insisted that I still owned shares, even though I explained that I had already sold them. She continued to dispute this until I asked my partner to come in and confirm what I had said. Only then did she review my information again and acknowledge that the shares had in fact been sold. She then asked for the documentation relating to the sale, and I informed that the information should already be available on my file. She insisted that she could not continue without it, but after checking again she was able to locate the information herself and proceeded with the appointment. She adjusted the refundable amount few times. At the end of the appointment, she informed that I would get the refund within 2 weeks. When I did not receive the refund in over 2 weeks, I rang to check the status, and she told me that my application had 'dropped off' and it would take a further week before I will get the refund. At the time of writing this, being 25/8/2026, I am still waiting for the refund. This experience has left me very disappointed. The repeated confusion, conflicting information and delays have caused me financial stress and have significantly reduced my confidence in the service.

I highly recommend HRB Tax for their outstanding professional service. The team was knowledgeable, efficient, and took the time to explain every step of the tax process clearly. They ensured that all eligible deductions were considered and made what can often be a stressful experience simple and straightforward.

I used the online tax advisor service for a sole trader business in 2026 and it was a terrible experience.

The first advisor I dealt with kept continually asking me for additional information that was already provided in the documents I uploaded. I eventually asked for another advisor to take over. I then had so many issues getting the new person to respond to me in a timely fashion.
Last year I was very happy with the service, this year I fully believe that no work was actually done by the
'accountants'. I seemed to do all the work. I provided everything needed in great detail and I believe that the advisors just acted as data entry operators. No accounting was actually done and for the price it wasn't worth it. It also took over 2 weeks when I generally believed that it would be done and dusted in one day due to the amount of preparation I did and giving them answers to questions before they were asked.
I'm giving a rating of negative 5 stars for this year's tax services.

Excellent service from William at H&R Block Port Melbourne. He was knowledgeable regarding my tax return and suggested making some extra additions to my tax return. This will likely mean a return for me. I am thrilled as this would be the first time in several years that I will receive a monetary return. Wonderful service and central location! Thanks William!

Poor communication from the online team. I applied for a $19 online return and was charged $69. I asked for some communication about timing for putting through the Tax return and instead they put it through without my final approval. It's not like the ad- I have to pay a large debt thatndoesnt seem to fit my personal situation (solo parent, and yes I know no empathy). I can see how ROBODEBT came into being and destroyed people's lives. It's stressful and the online application doesn't alleviate the stress. I requested for them to contact me so I could have a choice to put it on hold or decide my budget needs before submitting on that date. The online response was: they submitted it even though they asked me to confirm and authorize the submission. This approach is inhuman and didnt follow their or my requests. No thanks H&R Block

I went today doing my tax at mirrabooka .I was attempting as customer with booked appointment earlier.
Manager with long black hair was taking customers that were just walking through the door instead on checking on the people with appointments.
I approached her and said that she should be taking people with booked appointment.
She did not apologise just said I am not responding to your bulshit then she used said swearing words .I started shaking my body and she was screaming badly at me.this is first time that I experienced customer service like this..never go there ..how someone like that works there and there should be more careful before giving staff job..very poor rating never ever go there especially..

I submitted everything the online form asked for. Filled it in properly, double checked it, sent it off. A day later they came back with more questions. I answered those too. Then I called the next day to follow up.

More questions. I called again.

Every time I rang, I got the general support line. All they could do was "pass the enquiry on" to someone else. No one could actually help me or tell me what was happening with my case. It just went in circles.

By this point I wanted out. I was ready to withdraw and go with someone else, or just do it myself. But there was no way to withdraw. No option, no process, nothing.

If you're thinking about using their online service, don't. The process is slow, the support is useless, and you can't even leave once you're in it.

*clarifying context - i completed a tax return online with HR Block. The Hr block in person - never had issues so my feedback is purely for online department.

I wanted my tax return with an agent this time purely as it was the first time I had to declare a partner in a long time and I wasn't sure if that would be complicated. Turns out it wasn't - I couldn't even clarify any of the questions I had so completely defeated the purpose of involving someone. I didn't need to pay them $134 (advertised as $109). Word of advice, do NOT elect to have it taken from your refund. The refund has to be sent to them first and they have seemingly lost mine. It has been 34 days. They have the refund, they just can't manage to process it to my bank. First they said "yep its processed" - then I have called and they said they didn't have my bank details (they had them the whole time). But alas, I gave them again (apparently they sent an email on the 17th day mark requesting bank details they already had - they didn't). The person on the phone said, I'll forward this through and it'll be processed. It wasn't, I followed up - "oh we're looking into it" response. Wild. A simple return that i didn't need them for at all and I have lost my 2k refund. They just can't seem to make the transfer. So now I have to chase them for money that isn't theirs. Maybe they try to hold onto it for interest or something? Unreal. Will never use this company again. Hoping this review will make it "magically" appear.

They asked 3 times if we had business receipts, we confirmed we had. Then, they said they lodged the return. However, they then 'unlodged it'?! And asked the same questions again!! We rang to complain and spoke to William, who said my wife needed to call(which she had already done 3 times), and he said she hadn't, even though I had a screenshot of the calls! When I complained to the manager Ilana, she refused to talk to me and hung up!! With friends like these...who needs enemies!!

DONT USE THIS FIRM!!!

The cairns office is unprofessional in my dealings and just pushed me and my tax returns back.

When complained to Head office the weakest excuse doesn't have capacity, so why is H & R Block opening a new office in Smithfield.

For any reader of this review if you have been unprofessionally treated and you clean prove this, report them to the Tax Practitioners Board .
