Freegle Avis 

Great way of getting rid of things you don’t need anymore which are too good to be just thrown away. In my experience most things can be useful to someone and it’s a great feeling when something has gone to a good home for another life. Yes some people muck you about and don’t turn up but you get to know who they are and don’t respond to their requests next time.

I've used Freegle a few times over the last 6 months and found it quite useful to clear old bits out that a charity shop wouldn't take but seems too good for the skip.

Generally its been quite simple to communicate with the people picking up and most have turned up exactly when they said they would. Those that didn't mostly rearranged quickly.

Like Freecycle, it's pot luck whether you get an honest person in need or a dishonest reseller who pretends they are "in desperate need of this for my daughter" or that they "could really use this in my spare room" and so on. And then you list something completely different two weeks later and the same people get in touch with the same reasons. Oh, your little daughter needed a powertool AND a large microphone stand did she? Then you get the ones calling themselves 'SnugglySue' or 'Babycakes' and then some hairy geezer the size of a mountain turns up.

Half the time you'll get no-shows. When you ask them if they're still coming they'll say "Oh yeah sorry I was at work, can I come tomorrow instead" and then they won't turn up again, and both times they won't bother letting you know first.

It's best not to think about the kind of people collecting, and instead think of Freegle as a sort free collection and disposal service. Obviously try to avoid giving to the scammers and liars, but when your stuff has been collected just feel pleased that you didn't have to bother taking it to the dump. It's nice when you do get a genuinely thankful person but sadly in my experience this is not the majority of the time.
