Buyer beware…

The concept sounds great, but the execution is poor, and customer service is basically nonexistent except for when it is time to renew in which case it seems they will charge you for a renewal regardless of how many times you request a cancellation. I am very frustrated with this company. The software is buggy and poorly integrated. The technology is not ready for commercial applications. I would highly recommend a company that supports a “real” physical CGM like Nutrisense, that actually deliver some value for the money. The January application has been completely useless for my health circumstances, not to mention the difficulties in canceling the service. I would not recommend this to anyone.

January.ai is a major disappointment!!

Not impressed with the features, full of bugs and really doubt they are using any AI tech to forecast glucose levels. Here is just a short list of my frustrations:

1) Like others, Oura integration doesn't work. Sleep data seems to sync occasionally but I constantly get notifications to exercise even though I biked for hours or ran which is captured in Oura.
2) Food tracker is horrible. So many clicks needed to enter a single item and forget it if you have to add each ingredient (eg. salad). Missing major restaurant chains food data (In-n-Out burger). This should be easy and January makes it overly complicated.
3) Their glucose curves aren't accurate. After a meal, it suggested my glucose had spiked to 192 but when I checked it in the Libre app, it was only 145 and for the entire 10 day training period, my glucose had never gone above 165, so why does January show it spiked to 192.
4) They have a messaging app where you can ask it to analyze your diet. It doesn't work and I get a Error 100 response.
5) The notifications are repetitive and worthless. Every morning it tells me I ate a high carb breakfast or that I reached my fiber goal. Your glucose is rising, go for a walk. These are simple notifications and really not that insightful.

I highly recommend glucose tracking, but forget the January app and simply use the Freestyle LibreLink app to understand how certain foods, sleep and exercise impact your glucose.

Terrible customer support

I could not get the CGM to connect to JanuaryAI. I have tried customer support and they just keep referring me to a FAQ. They say they will respond to my emails but they do not. Very dissatisfied.

Poor CGM and "experiment" design made this a very poor program

I received the CGM and glucose but the instructions about what to do lagged. Not initially a problem, it became indicative of my experience. The food database was not as extensive or as flexible as myFitnessPal. The more problematic issue was the CGM itself. I used it for 5 days and it was between 10-50 points different from my blood glucose measurements using my ketomojo. There did not seem to be a recalibration. Often times it would tell me that I had to wait 10 min to test. So measurement validity and reliability was a problem. Then my biggest concern was looking at their idea of experiments. I know from my experience with measuring my blood glucose with my ketomojo, it takes me 3 days after having a dessert for my glucose fluxuations to return to a lower variability where I do not feel hangry. January AI was suggesting a different glucose spiking experiment per day. Good experimental design would dictate that they calibrate how long it takes glucose to level out and then schedule the glucose/food challenges that allow sufficient washout.
The entire process was not well documented and the experiments were presented as if the goal was simply be educational for the user to see how different foods mess with your system (e.g. favorite dessert for breakfast). People like me know that desserts in general have long lasting as well as drastic consequences for our blood glucose, so it seemed irresponsible to have these "experiments" that were fairly extreme and closely spaced so as to be useless in terms of real data gathering.
Given that the CGM could not give valid measurements, it seemed pointless. I felt that give the poor measurement tools and poor "experiment" design that did not take into account either my goals or my current knowledge of the harms of such experiments, this was a waste of money.

Terrible customer service and policies…

I canceled my order within hours of placing it and asked that they not charge my cc. I emailed customer service several times to confirm that they canceled my order. I received no response. Several days later, the company charged my credit card even though I had told them to cancel my order. They also charged me before sending the product. It wasn't until I disputed the charge with my credit card company that I finally heard from customer support. They refused to refund the charge, pointing out their no-refund policy. I only asked for a refund after they refused to cancel my order. They never should have charged me. Their customer service is nonexistent.

Strict No Refund Policy

I changed my mind and requested a cancellation within 24 hours of my original order and before they shipped the product. My request for a cancellation was denied as they apparently have a no-refunds-ever policy.

This is my fault, no doubt, because I should have read the policy, but I must admit to being surprised at how extreme it is. They did not lie or deceive, but such an extreme and strict policy seems unreasonable and so it is the basis for my one star review.
