JD Gyms - Leeds South Avis 

Not been for a while and classes and times have changed. The evening classes start too early so they aren’t busy.

The gym doesn’t have a single bottle of disinfectant, paper towels are also not easily accessible.
Some machines are taped and seem to be very old, lots of parts are also missing.

To be honest, it is spacious and has other machines but wouldn’t recommend just because you can’t even clean your equipment..

There is no one available to contact when needed. No call is ever answered and the email responses take ages!

Variety of machines for workout
Ample space to move around which is very important
Big car park
Could do with better lighting
But overall a great atmosphere to feel relaxed which is important in this hectic day and age

Been a member here since day one. Tom runs a tight ship and this shows in the cleanliness of the facilities and attitude of the team there. Room for improvement as every gym has but this is more from the company, 6 years old and needs some TLC put into it especially when they are returning local gyms and other competitors are stepping it up. New kit and new carpet wouldn’t go a miss and the loyal members would appreciate it. Can’t ask the staff to do anymore!

Gym busy at peak times but always find room to train!

To say I’ve used gyms now for the last 30 +years, I have to say this by far is the best , both in value and equipment available… All the staff are super friendly and the pt instructors have a wealth of knowledge, Mikey smith being my PT at present…. Would highly recommend.

Quality gym, and nice management (Tom). The PT’s are great especially Mikey. Love the Saturday Xfit classes! Would love to see some C2 bikes and Curved treadmills though. Overall great value for the price and have trained for multiple Hyrox and Running events there. Would definitely recommend.

Great gym with a friendly atmosphere.
The management and staff are always on hand if needed.
Even at busy times there is always equipment available.

Thank you so so much for being so very very kind to me and so warm and for being down to earth it meant so much to a person like me I love the gym but it was the manager lady I don't know her name and there was a wonderful guy called Matty with a ginger beard who was so kind to me and then a guy called Luke , more than expertise the world needs kindness it did not just impress me it amazed me because you know a company like this is a customer driven economy and well you need to improvise and switch up all the time to compete, but all the cosmetics in the world and equipment means nothing to me but what meant everything is proper sincere kindness so god bless you all and I don't no how to use these machines but I'm trying I don't no how to send it etc I'm sorry I'm trying my best it won't be like this forever

Great gym with an amazing atmosphere, all the popular cardio equipment has had an upgrade which is great and the gym is kept clean on a regular bases.

The general manager Tom is always around as well as other member of staff if you need any advice or help.

If you’re looking for a gym to join I would defiantly consider JD as an option.

I’ve been a member of JD South since it opened. Before that I not only trained in other gyms but also worked in them so I have been in more than my fair share.
JD gym South is more than a gym, it’s a community. From the staff and PT’s, who are friendly,helpful and knowledgeable, to the core members who are supportive and welcoming. The classes are varied and interesting, from Les Mills and burn, to the new Engine and X-Fit, not forgetting the ever popular X-Fit on Saturday morning with Mikey Smith which is a favourite of many (30 plus in this class) If you’re looking for a gym then this is your sign!

JD Leeds South offers a massive range of equipment with lots of space including plenty of classes for you to take advantage of. Not to mention the changing and sauna facilities.

If you're looking for a Personal Trainer you have a choice of many, each specialising in their own fields of practice and expertise.

All bases covered under one roof!

Excellent gym and great value for money . The staff all work really hard to keep the gym floor tidy , and are always on hand to help if you need anything . You are always felt welcome here. They have just had a new input of cardio machines which is a great addition. The classes suit to everyone and all Pts make a big effort to make these great. The Saturday X-Fit is a must go class , the PT Mikey Smith has built a great community of like minded individuals he pushes you out of your comfort zone but also builds your confidence around exercises you would probably never try .

Great machines, plenty of them. Classes are great the Xfit Saturday mornings is a particular favourite, always packed out. The coach Mikey is keen to see everyone trying new things and every week is something new.

I've been hitting JD Gyms South Leeds for over 2 years now, and it's improved since the first impressions.
​The vibe here is just great. You get a good mix of people—from folks just starting out to some serious lifters—and there are so many regulars that it feels like a community. You'll definitely make some friends.
​They have tonnes of space for warming up or stretching, and the equipment is solid: plenty of matrix and cardio machines, and huge areas for weights with loads of barbell and dumbbell stations, plus calisthenics bars. You never feel crammed.
​Seriously, the place is great and keeps on impeoving. The PTs and staff are consistently tidying up and racking weights, and it's always clean.
​For me, it's easily one of the best gyms in Leeds now.

During classes massive warm up areas are closed off entirely and made off limits to other members even though these sessions could easily be held in one section of the gym rather than taking up the centre. There is more than enough room for everyone yet everyone else has to suffer because of the instructors complexes.
The staff switch off the sauna 25 to 30 minutes before the official closing time displayed on the notice board. Certain shirkers on the staff are clearly being sneaky by doing this early just to cut corners and finish their shift sooner. A lot of users turn up around 8 PM specifically to train when the gym is finally slightly less crowded. Instead of the planned sauna session they were looking forward to after their workout, they are met with the disappointment of a cold room. Because of the massive queues in the gym from the late afternoon onwards, the sauna hours should really be extended until 11 PM instead of being cut even shorter by this lazy bunch.
They do not bother refilling the tissues for cleaning the benches after sweaty users. There is only one dispenser for the entire gym and even that is always empty. There should be dispensers in every single zone and they should always be kept stocked. In one of the shower cubicles the lock has been missing for over a fortnight. The wall tiles in the showers are covered in a foul smelling buildup of old grime. It is a literal breeding ground for fungi and disease. With over 7000 unique users a month, this is profoundly irresponsible. The showers need a proper deep clean and steam treatment at least once a week.
The calf machine has been squeaking for a couple of years now. A technician has looked at it but nobody has actually fixed it. The trainers take the liberty of moving rowing machines to other areas which should not be allowed and then they often forget to put them back. The foot straps on them are rubbish. They lose their grip after just a couple of minutes and on many machines they are positioned incorrectly on the inside, making it impossible for a user to fix them.
Multiple machines are out of order for weeks even when the issue is something that could be fixed with a quick turn of a spanner or a screwdriver. But the dead weight in the administrative staff are incredibly lazy. They are constantly lounging in their chill zone or the kitchen glued to TikTok while the rest of the facility rots. They should be inspecting every piece of kit and every metre of the gym but instead they have just let themselves go and the most they will do is put a few stray weight plates back.

It was my first experience using a gym, It was very clean and there was a very friendly atmosphere there. My PT was lovely and very supportive. Looking forward to going back next week and using the gym more. I’m 67 years old and very proud of myself for taking this first step to become toned and fitter.

Old equipment, stink dirty saunas and showers.

JD gyms in Leeds particularly Kirkstall road and Leeds South are a massive disappointment and a huge dent on the JD brand.
