AVOID like the plague - unless you want a world of pain!
I joined JDRM Melton when it first opened, so have been a loyal customer for a good few years now.
Gradually the service has deteriorated. You used to get a scrape and polish with your 6-monthly check up. That's no longer included - you have to book a separate appointment that costs £80.00. All the dentist does now is count your teeth and comment if they can see anything. For almost £30.00, you can pretty much do that yourself. They even scrimp now on the plastic cup of dental rose to rinse your mouth out - it's just a cup of water.
Unfortunately, I had a split tooth. The nerve was exposed and an infection got in, causing the most painful toothache I've ever had. I went to the JDRM dentist and he gave me a prescription for Amoxicillin antibiotics. He told me to take it for a week, then wait another week to make sure it worked, otherwise when they came to take out the split tooth, the anaesthetic might not work (I've since been told this is not necessarily true).
So I waited the 2 weeks and on the morning of the extraction, JDRM phoned to cancel it saying the dentist would not be in. I said it needed it sorting ASAP as I did not want the infection to come back and go through all that pain again. The receptionist tried to give me an appointment in a month's time. After much wrangling, she gave me an appointment a week later. When it came to it, it was cancelled... and so was another appointment the week after. Finally, an appointment was booked. On the Friday, as I was coming back from work on the train, I received a call cancelling it. The receptionist said she would call back with yet another appointment - of course, she never did. And when I spoke to another receptionist and said I feared the excruciating toothache would return, he just said 'go to A&E' - a journey of 17 miles to Leicester. Great, thanks, really helpful.
All in all, my extraction was cancelled at least FOUR times and as predicted, the pain came back and was even worse this time, with painkillers not touching it. I felt drowsy for days, had to lie down and was unable to attend pre-arranged events. Worse still, each time I had an appointment that was cancelled, I had to arrange to get someone to cover me at work, resulting in awkwardness and other people, including my boss, unnecessarily being messed about all for nothing.
In the end, I had to leave JDRM and have now gone to High Street dentists, who instantly sorted it out and removed the split tooth.
If you want to avoid pain and extremely poor service, best avoid JDRM or Damira Dental as they are now calling themselves. They seem to be unable to hold down any dentists, who seem to be a law unto themselves, cancelling and coming and going whenever they please - putting the patient last.
Dreadful service.
