Suddenly OUT OF BUSINESS in the middle of my pending sale and they did not give me any of MY money for a 3-piece sectional they picked up and had active on their website at the point they decided to "change hands." This is akin to STEALING, to take someone's furniture with the promise of paying them money owed to them. So, they basically got my couch AND will get any future proceeds. I'll be filing a complaint with the BBB. Disgusting customer "service."

Unethical company

Unethical company. Attempted to sell expensive couch with them. They picked up and damaged during cleaning. Denied doing any damage despite pictures. Sold for pennies on the dollar. Haven’t received a dime from them. Refused to work with the BBB and FTC when I filed complaints. Only recourse is to file complaint with state attorney general.

I sold two items on Kaiyo in June, and have not received payment for either item. The provided no ETA for my funds. They only said they're working on it. Do not sell here. Do not buy from them! What they offer is too good to be true.

AVOID KAIYO - SCAM ALERT

Kaiyo sold my mother's furniture and refuse to pay out the money she's owed. Avoid this company at all costs. It is likely bankrupt. They will happily sell your furniture and not pay you your share of the proceeds.

Sold several items and asked for a cash out which is supposed to come within 10 business days according to their website. Still haven’t received my money after 3 weeks and now the customer service phone number states it isn’t taking any calls. They owe me $200 plus they have my almost brand new sofa actively listed on their website that I bought from cb2 and I now it looks like I won’t ever receive proceeds for that either.

So I I’m having a similar experience…

So I I’m having a similar experience that somebody wrote about in another review. I sold a couch about a year ago and Kaiyo never notified me that it was sold. I checked back on my account and noticed I was due an over $1500 payout. I called the company about 3 1/2 weeks ago and was able to speak to somebody that gave me a 3 to 5 business day ETA. Of course I never received any check or money. I tried to email with just automated replies. Then I tried to call them again and they have been unreachable for three weeks. Their phone lines have been down with no available person to speak to. I am worried as well that they are going under. Does anyone have any current knowledge ? Short of filing a complaint with the BBB I’m not really sure what it is we can do to get our money owed. Extremely frustrating. I would not ever do business with this company. That is, if it’s still a company.

I sold an item to Kaiyo a couple of…

UPDATE: 8/16/2024

KAIYO IS GOING OUT OF BUSINESS BUT STILL OWES HUNDREDS OF CUSTOMERS MONEY.

I have spoken with the NYS Attorney General's office. KAIYO is registered in NYS and this is the office that EVERYONE who is owed money needs to contact. I suspect that there are hundreds of you out there. The representative I spoke with told me that legal action will be taken if fraud has been committed (which those of us owed money know has happened). However, the more people who file a complaint, the more likely a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT.

I will also be speaking with my local media today and being interviewed. If you're willing to do so, I suggest you contact your local media as well. Be sure to have screenshots of your claim and communication with KAIYO (which is still lying to customers).

UPDATE: I see that other recent reviews are now saying that Kaiyo doesn't answer the phone and their physical location is closed. I will be filing a complaint with the New York state Attorney General's off and the New York Division for Consumer protection. If you've requested a payout and haven't received it, you need to do the same. Both departments will build a case against the company based on ALL of our complaints.

I sold an item to Kaiyo a couple of years ago, moved, and forgot all about it. Fast forward to July 2024. I logged into my account and realized that I had $170 in it that had yet to be cashed put. I submitted a request for a cash out on July 16th. As of today, July 27th, which is past the 7-10 business days for a request to be processed, my request still hasn't been processed. I emailed support. Their response:

Hi Sophia,

Thank you for reaching out regarding the status of your cash out.

We understand your concern, and are working hard to provide an update for you. At this time, we are experiencing delays with cashing out and do not currently have an ETA on when this will be resolved.

We appreciate your patience.

With care,

Celeste

NO ONE SHOULD BE DOING BUSINESS WITH KAIYO. IN FACT, I SUSPECT THAT THEY ARE ABOUT TO BECOME INSOLVENT AND FILE FOR BANKRUPTCY. BEWARE!!!

Kaiyo - think twice.

Kaiyo's customer service and delivery times are extremely poor. They will not meet their own stated time expectations and require many follow ups before issuing payments to Sellers. They are clearly manipulating their finances to extend cash flow. Do not do business with them. Check Trustpilot and BBB reviews before engaging - I should have.

Kaiyo feels like a scam

Kaiyo, TERRIBLE for several reasons, I never write negative reviews, but they deserve one.

Their 'inspectors' arrived on the day they were supposed to pick up my furniture, which they had already approved to sell. Instead of following through, they claimed certain items were unstable by shaking them, which was completely false. This left me with some items on the day I needed to vacate my apartment.

The items they did take were grossly underpriced. They list everything for under $1,000 so they only have to pay sellers 25% of the sale price, without any input from the seller on pricing. For instance, they initially listed a new $1,900 king-sized bed frame for $1,100, dropped it to $825 the next day, and it sold immediately, resulting in me receiving only $205.

ChatGPT
The other item they listed is a $3,000 West Elm Couch, which they have priced at $986.00, clearly aiming to pay out no more than 25%.

Furthermore, they failed to notify me when my listings went live or when items were sold. I only discovered if something had sold by checking my Kaiyo account.

To make matters worse, one of my items—a nearly new West Elm Mid-Century Dresser—hasn't even been listed after 30 days of them picking it up.

Overall, my experience with Kaiyo was incredibly disappointing and unprofessional. It almost feels like dealing with a group of dishonest individuals. For a much better experience, I recommend using Apartment Deco. I sold a few other items through them and received a 50% payout, and you control the price! Apartment Deco pickup team was also pleasant, and they keep you informed when your item sells.

Lastly, if you are short on time, just donate rather than using Kaiyo.

HORRIBLE, THE WORST

HORRIBLE, TERRIBLE, SCAMMERS. Worst customer service, experience I have ever encountered. Used furniture pick up was scheduled from 1-5 pm on our move out day. We received no communication from the team the whole day until we reached out at 4pm and was subsequently told that they would be coming at 530. After calling again at 530, we were told that the team had to reschedule due to unforeseen circumstances. We were charged late checkout fees by our building because my wife and I had to haul the giant dresser and coffee table out ourselves. The customer service team and the company took zero accountability, zero ownership and had zero empathy to our situation. They did not offer us any alternative methods and had the audacity to tell us afterwards that their pick up is not guaranteed and there was nothing they could do. They had no problem cancelling our appointment last minute without notice, but when we reached out to have our furniture picked up the next day they could not reschedule us in even after the nightmare they put us through. What's also ironic is that this company charges customers a $90 no show fee while pulling this crap. I have never encountered a more absurd and horrible experience with a company, would encourage others to STAY AWAY!

The worst!

The worst!! I reached out to Kaiyo about my executive desk and matching file cabinet. They wanted pictures so I sent them pictures. They got back to me and said yes they would take it and they put me on a two week wait to pick up. Then on pickup day )after I took a day off of work) they canceled. then I waited another two weeks for them to finally turn up and then reject the item. It was too big, too heavy, I have no idea nobody gave me an answer. I wasted a month where I could’ve easily gotten another company to take care of this !! Zero stars from me I do not recommend this company. Funny thing is I saw the exact same desk online for $3000. Their loss.

Skip Kaiyo!

Kaiyo delivered a couch and it looked ok. After the delivery crew left it became apparent that one of the legs on the couch was broken and they’d propped it just so that the couch appeared stable. Customer service has stated it will be 1-2 days before they can “escalate” the matter to find a solution.

If you don’t want your home to become an involuntary storage unit for broken furniture, skip Kaiyo.

Complete lack of transparency and…

Complete lack of transparency and disgustingly unfair “revenue share”. They took my item & despite my confirming with the CS team pre pick up that the item needed to be disassembled to get it out of my apartment, the delivery guys gave me grief and spent an hour going back and forth with someone at Kaiyo to confirm disassembly. Complete chaos and terrible communications.

They then never confirmed that my item was listed, never gave me a sale price to approve, and never detailed my revenue share. They also never bothered to tell me the couch sold, and they’ve yet to come through with my (pitiful 25%) share. That’s right. They took 75% of the proceeds for MY couch that they sold at a way too low price. Well as of now they took 100% because I’ve not seen a dime. Steer well clear of these absolute crooks.

It seems like Kaiyo has a variety of issues based on these reviews. From misunderstandings about the condition of items to poor customer service and unsatisfactory payouts for sellers, there are quite a few concerns. It's clear that the experiences of these customers have been frustrating, from furniture arriving damaged and dirty to not receiving adequate compensation for items sold.

The recurring theme seems to be transparency issues, whether it's about their assessment process, fees, or the condition of items. There's a lack of clarity in how they handle both buying and selling transactions, leaving customers feeling dissatisfied and misled.

If someone were to ask for advice on using Kaiyo, I'd suggest caution. Exploring other selling platforms or handling sales independently might be more beneficial, especially if transparency and fair compensation are important factors. And for buyers, it might be worth considering alternatives where there's more confidence in the item's quality and the purchasing process. Horrible employees, curt and dishonest

Mixed Experiences

Purchased an Ethan Allen nightstand that matched my existing bedroom set a year ago that was in pristine condition, well-packaged, and reasonably priced ($267). That transaction gave me confidence to try Kaiyo again.

Purchased a Restoration Hardware leather office chair recently that they listed with low resolution b&w pictures that did not reveal its true condition. A mobile phone could have taken better shots. They also had four separate listings with the same pictures, but different prices. Customer service refused to email separate pictures corresponding to the specific item numbers saying the chairs were inaccessible at their warehouse. I chose one in the midrange of the four chairs described as in good condition.

Fortunately, I picked the chair up myself from their local warehouse and rejected it immediately upon seeing how dirty and well-worn it was. The retail price was inflated on their website from what's listed in RH's catalog. They should be ashamed for asking over $800 for something so raggedy. I have seen a display model just like it for less at RH's outlet. Kaiyo acted in bad faith and forces buyers to bear the full risk by charging nonnegotiable restocking fees for their dishonesty. Never taking that chance again. Better to buy risk-free from a local seller or consignment shop.

Don't waste your time

Don't waste your time. I went to sell a west elm couch with them and they literally mistook lint for unraveling. On their site, they talk about cleaning the product so "don't worry". I kindly called attention to something small that I had only just done, to be honest, and after they realized their mistake about the lint, they used this as the second excuse even after I had offered to clean it. Not to mention the fact that they have the exact same sofa on their website in way worse condition. Literally, the sofa they have online for more than $200 wouldn't even be something that you'd pick up if it was sitting on a curb.

Don't waste your time. These people literally have no idea what they are doing and their lack of knowledge shows in their inability to accurately assess furniture. I think they have to much inventory and instead of being honest, they assume you (the seller) don't know good furniture so they make up lies. They then sent a follow-up on where I could donate the furniture. My gut is telling me that they expect you to donate it and they then cut you out of the equation. 100% profit for them.

Crooks!

They will probably go out of business soon.

Terrible furniture, no compensation

Paid over $800 for a fancy office chair that was listed on their website as "gently used" only to discover after their delivery people left (woe on me for not checking sooner) that it was dirty and broken.
- Back of chair only half-attached to seat
- Sticky brown residue all over the left-side adjustment handles
- Lumbar adjustment wheel totally broken
- Lumbar insert not attached
- (still finding more issues every couple days)

I contacted customer support three (!) times, but they best they offered me was $225 in compensation. In other words, they thought that selling me a broken chair for ~$600 was fine.

Kaiyo claims on their website that they "professionally clean" their furniture. That's clearly false.

Whether my experience was the result of deliberate fraudulent misrepresentation of their furniture or mere gross negligence is a decision left up to the reader.

Either way, I strongly recommend avoiding any interactions with Kaiyo. As a buyer, you're liable to get garbage and pay for it. As a seller, who knows what'll actually happen to the furniture you put up for sale?
