Usually great, but disappointed with Donna beans this time

I’ve been a regular at Kiss the Hippo for quite some time now. I usually buy the Donna beans for home and stop by the shop most mornings, so I’m very familiar with both the Donna and Fruitopia profiles in terms of taste and aroma.

Recently, I bought a bag of each to take to friends in Turkey, who are very experienced with coffee beans and brewing. While the Fruitopia was well received, unfortunately the Donna didn’t meet expectations this time. It came across noticeably bitter and at first we thought it might be due to the brewing method or differences in water. However, after taking a closer look at the beans, it seemed they were over-roasted.

My friends even commented that it reminded them of Starbucks-style roasting, closer to a darker, more commercial roast profile than expected from a specialty roaster.

I’ve spoken very highly of Kiss the Hippo, especially since the Bank location opened, so this was a bit disappointing and left a slightly sour impression.

Bought a grinder which is performing…

Bought a grinder which is performing completely out of spec: 5gr of retention out of 21gr dose as average. Reached out to customer service and after the first reply asking me question what’s my brewing method (I.e. espresso), they simply ignored me.
They simply lost a good customer for equipment and coffe.

Terrible customer service, hostile staff member

I met a friend there today at the one in Covent Garden. I don't mind paying more as £3.80 is alot for a basic cup of tea, but the guy working there put me off ever going back. Zero customer service skills, hostile,rude and unfriendly.Ive seen other reviews saying the same, so I guess the business doesn't care if you go back or not..It's a cute shop but we won't return.

Coffee is one of my favourite things in…

Coffee is one of my favourite things in the world and I love Kiss the Hippo coffee. I love the website and the great descriptions and the ease of purchasing. The rewards scheme is fabulous and the name is very cool. I will not buy beans from anyone else.

Poor Customer Service

I ordered a Coffee machine on 26/12/25. I didn't hear anything after receiving the order confirmation and allowed some extra time to allow for bank holidays etc.

I sent an email on 03/01/26 to enquire where my order was. Received a reply on 05/01/26 to say the item was actually out of stock and on backorder! Why continue to sell and allow people to hand over money for an item not in stock?!

I replied on the 05/01/26 to enquire about timeframe of delivery of an alternative colour machine. No reply received and I had to follow up again on 07/01/26. I received a reply the following day stating they were awaiting delivery. I did not hear anything then until the 12/01/26 at which point due to the lack of communication and poor customer service I cancelled my order and purchased it from elsewhere.

Never had an issue until...

I placed an order on Monday 27th October. On the 31st October I received an email saying there was a offer of 15% off. I emailed to ask if I could receive the discount retrospectively seeing as it was only a few days. The person responding to the emails was rude and dismissive. I spend quite a bit of money at Kiss The Hippo, and I still do. But customer service is very important and should not be taken for granted.

Packaging could be improved

The coffee is high quality and worth the price. However, I also ordered two ceramic mugs and was not satisfied with the packaging. A cardboard ball that slides around relatively loosely in the package together with the cup packaging is not sufficient protection. Thankfully, the cups were not damaged. I ordered from outside the UK, so a return would have been doubly annoying.

There’s no physical person to speak to

Looking to buy a bundle that they have an offer on for, have a query as there’s 2 different machines on the same bundle, one with a digital screen and one without so want to speak to someone to see which one it is before purchasing as it’s a large sum of money and all I get is an AI bot that does nothing when I ask for help to identify which product it is. No actual phone number or someone to speak to so will have to shop somewhere else. Disappointed

Brilliant customer care

I have used KTH for several years and the have always been brilliant, I love the coffee, the convenience and the customer service. I had a small issue yesterday and they sent me a replacement which just arrived, fantastic, I would highly recommend them to you!

Very disappointing flat white

I order from Kiss the Hippo regularly, which is why this was surprising. The café wasn’t busy at the time, yet my flat white was served only around two-thirds full. When I tasted it after leaving, it was extremely bitter to the point of being undrinkable.

This isn’t the standard I normally experience here, which made it particularly disappointing.

I accidentally checked out with an incorrect address and my order got sent back. I contacted them and my order immediately got sent out, and was delivered the next day. Thank you for sorting so quickly!
