Bait and Switch

If I could, I would give zero stars! I am giving this review in regard to my experience with what I believe to be deceptive, coercive, and potentially unlawful practices by the broker and carrier that the broker hired. During the course of this move, the company engaged in misleading estimates, substantial price increases after signing a contract, unprofessional conduct, and mishandling of my property that resulted in significant damage.

I was initially given an estimate of approximately $6,150.00 by Michael at Menards after giving him a full list of my 834 sq. ft house. However, as the move date arrived, the estimate increased three times and ultimately rose to $14, 696.82 by the time my belongings were picked up. The company justified these increases by claiming that the volume of my shipment exceeded the original estimate.

Prior to the move, I provided a detailed inventory list and photographs of the items to be transported and offered to provide measurements for a couple of larger pieces to ensure an accurate estimate. Despite this cooperation, the quoted price continued to escalate.

At pickup, my belongings were loaded into a single 24-26-foot box truck with room to spare, which was inconsistent with the company’s later claim that the shipment needed two trucks.

At delivery (which was late) the driver arrived with two trucks, including a 26-foot box truck, and asserted that the shipment required significantly more space than originally estimated. They left in one 24- 26ft truck with room to spare (I didn't measure the first truck) and arrived with at 26' truck and a locally rented Uhaul! The items in the Uhaul were just thrown in and many were damaged, broken or completely shattered.

The delivery process raised additional concerns. The carrier provided only four hours’ notice prior to delivery. When I requested 24 hours’ notice so I could arrange to have someone there with me to assist with the placement of items. The office initially agreed. However, the driver later stated that if we did not accept delivery immediately, he would turn the truck around with my belongings and impose an additional $1,000 charge. Under these circumstances, I felt compelled to comply in order to regain possession of my belongings which they had held for over a month. The carrier also refused to unload the shipment until payment was made in full. Even though we had concerns we wanted to discuss.

When the movers finally arrived with my belongings, they were approximately two hours late and appeared to have transferred my belongings between two trucks. I also observed that the carrier had hired local laborers through Craigslist and used a locally rented U-Haul truck to move items between vehicles. This unnecessary transfer of my belongings by untrained laborers significantly increased the risk of damage, and a substantial portion of my furniture and personal property was damaged.

The conduct of the individuals involved was also unprofessional. The driver’s manager argued and yelled at us and used profanity. He also refused to provide his name or identification when requested.

These actions reflect a pattern commonly associated with interstate moving fraud, including the use of low initial estimates to secure a contract followed by substantial price increases on the day of the move and after a consumer’s household goods are in the carrier’s possession. The move began with one company acting as a broker and was later transferred to another carrier and then a 3rd for delivery, leaving me with no practical ability to secure an alternative mover due to contractual obligations and scheduling constraints.

As a senior citizen, I believe I was placed in a vulnerable position where my household goods were effectively being withheld hostage unless I agreed to pay substantially inflated charges.

Given the misleading estimates, repeated price increases, refusal to unload without full payment, use of untrained laborers, property damage, and unprofessional conduct, if you are considering using this company please reconsider. I have moved several times in my life, but never have I been treated so badly and the damage to my items was excessive. This is not a professional company hiring professional movers.

I'd NEVER work with Menards again!

I'd NEVER work with Menards Moving & Storage again.

We used Menards Moving & Storage for an interstate move in February 2026. We selected Menards because their salesperson committed to have our stuff to us on a specific date which was critical for my family due to work obligations. This commitment was made by the sales person verbally multiple times and was also hand written into the contract they signed. Including the specific delivery date for "PGS" delivery which we were told was priority ground shipping.

That delivery date came and we waited all day ready to receive them. No sign of their subcontractor. No communication. No delivery. Then another day. And another.

I began calling both Menards and their sub-contractor every chance I could, pleading for transparency and an explanation for what was happening. Both told me they had no obligation to commit to the date the Menards Moving & Storage sales person committed to us.

THEN...a truck finally arrived. We were overjoyed. Only to find out Menards' sub-contractor brought the wrong family's stuff to our house. Unbelievable. We watched the truck arrive, then we watched it leave.

After hours of phone conversations with Menards and their sub-contractor, I was finally able to get them to deliver our belongings nearly a week later. Honestly, I wouldn't want anyone to go through what we experienced.

Please read this as an honest description of what happened to us before you make any commitments with Menards.

Was given a 500 cubic foot estimate

Was given a 500 cubic foot estimate - i wasn't sure how many boxes and totes i had so started with 60 boxes 8 totez some (20) dog fence panels and a couple of end tables- $1600 dep, $750 cash to the mover for pick up and $750 cash for delivery ( 600 miles ) . 10 days prior on the 3rd i gave them an update on what I had.20 boxes 18 totes added a captains chair and a 2x3 shelf and 40 more 2x 3.5 dog panels. They didnt contact me until the 8th 4 days before the move ( out of the window for a refund on the deposit) said i was going to use 900 cubic feet and cost another approx 3k. I cancelled anyways probably not going to get any deposit back -Daniel person was rude. I didn’t research enough or have enough knowledge to make an informed decision. This is just a brokerage company not the actual moving company. Beware

RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN

JI contracted with Menard to mover from Colorado to Texas. They sublet the move to an outfit called Soto Express. They said when I signed the permission to Soto to move me they are no longer legally responsible for the disaster they visited on me. I suspect their lawyers have them covered. RUN, DON'T WALK AWAY FROM THESE CLOWNS. THEIR MOVER CONSULTANTS MADE ALL KINDS OF PROMISES ABOUT INSURANCE AND ASSURANCE OF A GOOD MOVE. THEY FOISTED ME OFF ON A CLOWN MOVER THEY DESTROYED SOME OF MY STUFF AND FAILED TO DELIVER PART OF OUR STUFF. MENARD SAYS IT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. RUN BABY RUN FROM THEM.

had the BEST experience with them

had the BEST experience with them! I was honestly so paranoid after reading the reviews (accidentally booked them without seeing all the negative comments), and called their customer service right away. Sabrina reassured me and even made sure I had movers booked asap (read some reviews that movers never came lol) The movers came exactly as expected, delivered everything right on time and everything was perfectly intact. And I moved from California to Michigan in February so it was definitely a long drive and the weather most likely sucked for them.

Dishonest company that tried to charge me $2000 more than the BINDING estimate last minute for the move and refused to give me a refund of my deposit which was a couple thousand dollars, despite no services being provided.

If I could give them zero stars I…

If I could give them zero stars I would. The salesman guaranteed us a full 26 foot truck and said that everything We had would fit in it, for X amount of dollars. A week later the Dispatch guy called us to verify everything. The price went up almost $10,000. Jon was the guy from Dispatch, he went back and listened to the recording from Dan.(The salesman), And told us that yes he can see where we were promised the whole truck for this much money. He said what would it take to make us happy. We’re not unreasonable people so we came up from the original price a little bit. He agreed that that would be the cost. I called back on Monday and talked to a Katie in the office. She insured me that we have the full truck 1800 ft.³ truck for X amount of dollars. The driver and his crew showed up on Wednesday and said no he cannot do that. After going back-and-forth with him for about an hour, the actual moving company said they would not move all of our items for that money. Katie again tried to convince us to come up on our price and I refused to come up. They’re threatening to hold back our deposit money. All because they lied. Please do not go with Menards moving in storage. They like to use the old bait and switch tactic.

Terrible Company

Terrible Company. They brokered my job to a different company without my knowledge. I sent them pictures of the large items (rolling toolbox & large wine fridge).
I told them I wanted my items delivered the next day
(Expedited fee). Menards sent me a quote and I had them specifically put the delivery date as the next day.
When the other brokered moving company came to the site they told me that the toolbox is an extra $500, wine fridge is $150, expedite fee is $500, and stairs was an extra $100 per location. I called and spoke to Connor over the phone, and he specifically told me that Mernards would reimburse me as he could clearly see in the notes that they had pictures, they had it to be delivered the next day and there was a flight of stairs at each location. I have text messages from two different Menards employees saying that this was covered in my quote. The complaint department called me today telling me they will not refund me any money and if I dispute the charge they will take me to court. $1,836.74 to provide a quote and to have a different company complete the work?

They subcontracted the move to Best…

They subcontracted the move to Best Move Van Lines; they were rude, cursed me, threatened to leave without delivering our stuff, then threatened to leave our stuff on the street. We contracted to move 350 ft² of space, when they arrived at the location they said it was 600 ft² of things, when they arrived a lot of our stuff was damaged and the amount of space that our things took up was approximately 250 ft².
We were forced to pay an extra $892, without recourse. Their were 2 guys that made the delivery one spoke pretty good english the other not so good.
The one who's English was not so good, was rude and thought that he could curse me without regard, I quickly set him straight. He appeared to be a young muslim man, thinking back now I should have called the sheriff. I called Mendards Moving with no response. So much for customer service.

READ THE CONTRACT BEFORE SIGNING

I was informed by Katie Caruso at Menards Moving and Storage that I may be sued for $250,000 for "defamation" if I describe my experience with them. This is in their contract:

everything was delivered on time

I was very nervous about my move, especially since it was a long distance move, but this company went above and beyond my expectations. They were very organized, careful with my things, and had great communication with me throughout the process. Nothing was damaged, and everything was delivered on time. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone!

Four flights of stairs

Four flights of stairs. No elevator. I am twenty three and in decent shape, but I did not want to carry my dresser up all those steps. I called Menards Moving on a Wednesday. They booked me a crew for Friday morning. Two guys ran those stairs like it was nothing. I sat on the stoop and drank coffee. Best money I ever spent.

Scammer bowl.

Scammer bowl.. Scammer bowl... was trying to go to the next question but i had to leave a star i guess, wasn't going to. sad smmfh, im so pissed, really want the company to drop the real location, how i feel! I paid, they took, i lost, wtf? Im not even at a lost for words have a lot to say, past unprofessional, feels like they rented a truck and they got paid to rob me fcuk outta here, & kept trying to add stealing fees, you serious! After everything is setup for the move charging me to take my things out of my storage to put in the truck crazy, I'm moving across the country, i have smallest storage possible when we're my things weighed? 2400lbs, isn't that a ton in weight? i have no furniture, 10-11 boxes at most, 5-6 suitcases, all clothes, a mirror covered only with a blanket, whatever tho, had a 5X5 storage it took them no longer than 30 mins to load truck, check it, 10-15 mins we argued about charging me a walking fee from the storage to the truck picture that, who does that, Cali to southeast USA! I'm dumbfounded rite now can't make this up. After they left the storage 2 hours later wanted to meet up I'm at my hotel now i guess to sign release papers for my stuff, didn't sign, gave them another $610 payment, wow, finally left guess to take my things, picked up on the 6th said would take nine days ok fine, contacted me on 23rd, i thought it was over thought they got me, wait! Another fee or payment, stealing fee said i owed another $610, plus $400 van fee to switch my things from a sixteen wheel truck to be able to come in my complex, you serious? It left the west coast in u-haul size truck, Not even funny part, still don't have my stuff, another stealing fee! For them holding my things until another payment is made, here is a kicker, said they would auction my stuff away, laughable, it's only my clothes no furniture, pictures & paper work, lot of underware, lot of socks, lot of sweaters & coats, oh yeah my designer cups, oh forgot gave them some of my stuff in Cali things I didn't want or need anymore, if i knew this was going to happen, i wouldn't of gave them anything, just let them rob me for that too. And they put that in a sixteen wheel truck! feel like I've been on a punkd episode that was real. Everybody at that company, whatever you want to call them is in on it, upper management, customer service reps if that's who they are, movers, i mean stealers. Got lucky i paid 2 payments with a card, so i guess im only out the $610 i gave them in cash when they came by my room with the discharge papers for my things, oh yeah I'm out my stuff too. scam ball! At its finest, great scam team! Better than a fake call center, WoW! it's not over most def it's not over forget the old clothes i want my SCAMMER lick back, have to laugh about this but I'm really upset about my pictures & my paper work that I'll probably never see again, can always get clothes back, but the things i can't and planned on having forever, that hurts, Damn near crying writing this, but i learned something! Check every review and social media, dealing with a business that offers a service, sorry it's so long but had to come out. don't know how these guys are still in business with a half of million bad reviews crazy! I'm in the wrong business, def scam hall of fame material, best scam of the year, best marketing scam off the year, & best scam MVP of the year... real talk why would i travel across the country back & forth to play games with you about my stuff, i traveled across the country almost 2,400 2,500 miles so i can open my storage & pay you to take my stuff, I was sick and all, never again, true scammers to the heart. Well until the next scam i guess... just true actual factual information.
