Merlin Bike Gear Avis 

In 2019, I bought a pair of Combat Boots from Merlin. They were great initially, but despite taking good care of them, the leather began cracking through the upper at the crease points.

The rep here in Australia was very helpful, and replaced the boots under warranty.

Unfortunately, the same thing happened again with the second pair, but worse. This time, the leather became cracked and chipped within 6 months. It is clearly not the high-grade leather claimed in advertising.

I contacted the rep again, and though they were initially very helpful, they were unwilling to do anything as this item had already been replaced under warranty. Eventually I was just left with the problem.

I've had to keep using the boots in the wet weather we're having, despite how they're degrading. Yesterday, one of the leather zip pulls completely came away in my hand.

I take good care of my equipment, especially leather products. Though I ride daily, it is a short commute on suburban roads.

I'm disappointed, as on two occasions now the boots have failed to meet my expectations. I will be shopping elsewhere.

I recently bought a jacket and a pair of gloves from Merlin via an online supplier. Overall, this is excellent bike gear however a few niggles. The stitching attaching the zip was mis-alligned and had not been tied off and it failed. Not a major problem and I re-stitched it myself rather than send it back to my supplier. The jackets are sized very generously so going down from your normal size is suggested. However, opposite situation for the gloves. I'm normally a L but I probably need an XL. I did use the Merlin size guide before I ordered and my hand measurement was L according to it. The gloves are a bit tight but I'm hoping they will give a bit. That's the negative. On the positive, Merlin's products are excellent and great quality. I'm not put off from buying more kit but I hope they improve on the quality checks before dispatch to suppliers.
