This is exactly what I was looking for! The workshop gave me such great ideas for addressing student misconceptions, and I can’t wait to put them into practice.

The Word Problems Workshop gave me so many great tips - I can't wait till Monday when I can implement the 5-step program. We are ready to get our hands dirty!!!

Working with Mona has made mine and my students' perspectives of math change completely. What used to be monotonous lessons are now filled with productive struggle, reasoning, critical thinking, problem solving discussions and so much more. Mona's knowledge of math and classroom experiences have taught me the importance of letting the students take the reigns and lead themselves through the processes to solve. Rather than just knowing the the algorithm, my students can articulate how or why they are doing something in the mathematical process. Meeting with Mona weekly has provided me many opportunities to grow my own math learning and further my development as a math teacher. I'm looking forward to using Mona's problem solving framework with my 1st and 2nd grade students. Too often as educators, we tend to over scaffold to "support" our students. After participating in Mona's workshop, I can see the importance of giving students time to think for themselves and to grapple with that thinking in order to become more successful problem solvers.

I used to think it was efficient to use the gradual release model while teaching math but Mona's professional development session about Math Words and Discussions has given me tools and helped me see how you can support students and make sense of math word problems!
