Basic web portal and poor information - to the point of being fairly useless
Took out a cash ISA and there was no obvious messaging to state that you couldn't add to it from other existing ISAs. The web site process did not not make that clear either, so I contacted the help desk, but they didn't know the answer as to whether it was possible, or if not why not... so eventually messaged and received a response that it is not possible - but no answer to other questions. When I pointed out that it wasn't clear and it would be better to make it more clear, I received a glib, patronising response about it being in the T&Cs - brilliant!!

Problems accessing late wife's accounts.
The transactions on my account were fine and easy to handle. My complaint is that I am unable to get anywhere with my late wife's accounts at NS&I, which were to be directed to me under her will. She died well over a year ago. When I spoke to an assistant a while ago (*) he refused to help, despite my solicitors having given NS&I full probate details.
Subsequently, I asked the solicitors to have these accounts closed and the proceeds transferred to their client account. They completed your form, which I signed and they then submitted it a few weeks ago, To my knowledge, my wife's funds have still not been released to the solicitors. Given these experiences, I think an award of 2 stars is being generous. (*) I'm not 100% sure of the exact date, but it was around Christmas last year.

Helpful and Friendly phone support
I have spoken to a couple of people at NS&I recently (end of last year and early this year) and they have been so helpful and friendly. What could have been a headache, turned out to be a positive experience. Thank you.

Nothing to loose
Pop your savings into premium bonds interest rate at your bank or building societies is not great Stop doing the lottery and online draws. Just squirrel your pounds into bonds they go in the draw every month and you never loose your money. When you want to draw some out it just takes a couple of days. Because you know you might miss out on a prize you are reluctant to draw on it so helps save. I can’t wait for the results every month. Fingers crossed.
