Rebecca from Optinmonster has been a fantastic help, in order to get me started with the right package.

Some users are commenting about 'auto-renewal' - this can be turned off from the very start. However, it is your own responsibility to point out to support or change yourself.

Great Support

I recently had the pleasure of working with Rebecca from the billings department, and their support was truly outstanding. They were prompt, professional, and incredibly thorough in addressing all my inquiries. Every question was met with clear, concise answers, and they consistently went above and beyond to ensure everything was resolved efficiently.

I also want to thank Brownyn & Angie, whose assistance was invaluable in ensuring everything was handled seamlessly.

One area for improvement would be the subscriptions process, as it would be helpful to receive a notice or reminder prior to renewals to ensure transparency and prevent unexpected charges.

Trap with auto-renewed

Simple. They renewed automatically without my consent. I tried to cancel from the first month, got trapped for a year, and now they've auto-renewed again without my permission. I never authorized them to save my credit card information. Their website has a poorly designed account and billing page that doesn’t show anything about the billing cycle, auto-renew, or saved card details. It’s clear they’re trying to trap customers. A truly deplorable way to make money. Good products usually give you flexibility and strive to ensure customer satisfaction, but they’re still operating like it’s the 1900s, just looking to trap you and take your money, leaving you disappointed.

I can understand your frustration.

We do offer a 14-day money back guarantee for new, first time purchases and upgrades. We do not, however, offer refunds for renewals. We send renewal reminders by email, but it is possible it landed in your spam or promotions folder. I'll also have our dev team check to ensure those emails are still sending as expected.

I've authorized a refund of your renewal based on the incorrect information you were provided previously and apologize for the inconvenience. I hope you'll give us a try again in the future.

OptinMonster and their "free campaign""

OptinMonster will market themselves as a company that offers setting up a free campaign for you, but they won't follow through on their work and correct what they did even though it looks awful. And when asking them to resolve the deficiencies they have caused, they'll tell you that they only "allow two rounds of edits", instead of telling you from the start. I think it's been more than two months now since the campaign development had been initiated. Simply not suitable for people trying to run a business.

Just got scammed by this company! Was signing up to try it for free and suddenly they took 299 dollars the day after signing up without any warning! Watch out and find another company for your popups.

The "free" account probably isn't free.

I was about to sign up for a "free" account and was tempted to upgrade to their pro plan - but then it wanted my credit card details, even for the "free" account.

So I checked Trustpilot, only to find out that many people had been charged without permission, even after being assured that no charge would be taken and many couldn't get their money back because it was beyond the "14-day" guarantee period. And that some people had had their subscription prices increased without notification and after being assured when they signed up that there would be no increase.

I wanted to check out the basic ("free") service for a while first to see if my site would benefit from it in some way. But then I noticed the offer prices kept changing. At first it was $100p.a. (and before I could check whether this was $100p.a. in perpetuity or just $100 for the first year and then $250 thereafter). And then I looked at the pricing part of the website and saw that the annual price was $120 (well, "only" $10/month, but only if "billed annually").

I decided just to quit while I'm ahead - I don't want to be monitoring my bank account continuously in case they decide to charge me or increase the costs sometime down the line, next month or next year or in two years' time!

I just uninstalled the app and am looking elsewhere.

Oh, and I noticed that OptinMonster also has WPForms, OptinInsights, AIOSEO, TrustPulse (ironic, that!) and various other plugins. I don't think I've been asked for credit card details for any of these yet, but it might be safer to uninstall them also.

Prove me wrong!

Update. Reply to OptinMonster:

Just because you provide a 14-day window isn't enough. You AUTOMATICALLY take the payment without any active intervention by the customer. So if your notification isn't received or not noticed or ends up in spam then what written guarantees do you provide that a customer can get a refund a month or two LATER if they notice that they've been inadvertently charged for the service?

If you really are a legitimate service (i.e. not intending to scam customers by playing a numbers game) then you will require the customer to actively subscribe to the service if they wish to continue after the trial period has ended, else automatically revert to the free/non-pro plan. Just because "other companies" practice this same scammy tactic doesn't make it a legitimate way to do business.

I didn't subscribe to Mail Chimp or Constant Contact for the same reason; I chose Moosend, a far more ethical, upfront email campaign service - who required no credit card to sign up for the free 30-day trial!)
