Less than 1 star

Didn’t have the option to leave less than one star but my experience since being forced by our insurance to go to Optum has been terrible. I have spent more time on the app in the chats and on the phone that at this point I should be on the payroll. Every single medication order has required multiple calls and all of my medications have been delivered late. I would not recommend them to anyone.

A disreputable, unprofessional and untrustworthy company

Hi there,
On 3/10/26, I canceled an upcoming prescription for Jardiance 10mg because I'm currently unable to afford it. I was told by an Optum RX employee that I had successfully canceled my order before it shipped. I was lied to by this dishonest, incompetent, and deceptive company, and I ended up being billed for something I never wanted. These people have no credibility and are not to be trusted. I want my $439.69 refunded to me ASAP. Thank you.

This is a copy of my online chat transaction in which I requested cancellation, was told it was successful, and was promptly lied to when they processed the order anyway. These people are not to be trusted under any circumstances.

4 days with out my Blood Pressure meds

4 days with out my Blood Pressure meds. Spoke to someone who "filled" it but will not be in for another week. Had to fill elsewhere and pay full price as Optum said they cannot cancel it, after only an hour after speaking to them about refilling.

Company changed to a cheaper way of mailing meds

I and my husband have been getting our meds thru Optum for years. We always got them in 2-3 days after shipping. Several months ago, they started going the cheap route and sending the meds thru parcel select mail. Now, they take a week to 10 days to get them. They even send controlled meds that way. I called to ask if I could get them sent faster, and the rep outright lied and said they have always sent them that way, even though I knew they went from first class to parcel select, because we have been using them for years and I know how they were mailed before. She was very rude and finally, I just hung up on her.

Optum decided it would not ship my…

Optum decided it would not ship my refill on an important med I take at bedtime. I would give this pharmacy zero stars if I could. Customer service is a joke. They keep transferring my call because they have no clue what is happening. Rude customer service. It’s been a week now calling them about my medication and I still do not have it. Now I only have enough for 1/2 dose tonight. Thanks Optum for not being able to complete my refill. Now I suffer because of your incompetence.

Would give 0 stars if I could. I have a horrible chest infection. The help they provided was a nasal spray offered over the counter and some cough medicine. And said to wait 10 days and it should go away.

I need a medication without…

I need a medication without break...they refuse to fill except 30 pills a day after I fly away!!! They not give me time to fill it. Mail order does not arrive in time. I work in the wilderness and am often away I cannot get the medication I need i am on medicare advantage and cannot quit them until Jan. I am so angry at Untied health for helping to make me sicker My doctor is trying to help now i must get meds without ins this is too expensive stay away from Optum

Call center reps are 100% useless, no listening or reading comprehension skills

They are great if you have no need to communicate with them at all at any time. Once there is a problem or you have a question that is more complicated than the time of day, that is when it all breaks down. I have tried speaking with reps and using chat. Like most Filipino call centers, they are excessively verbose, continuously repeat themselves and really have absolutely no clue or capabilities to respond accordingly. It is bizarre. A rep can cut and paste a response but has no idea of the meaning behind what they wrote. There is a total disconnect. Calls are pointless and frustrating. Everyone has a limit on patience and these reps push that to the limit.

This is the worse company I have ever had to deal with in my life! Patient advocate , please why give people one when they do NOTHING to help make the process easier for you. It’s a joke! They get zero,0 stars for this review!

Terrible experience with this pharmacy

Terrible experience with this pharmacy. My son previously received his cancer medication from Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy and for a year the process was flawless. When it was changed (why I don't know) to Optum Specialty, I first had to spend over two hours on the phone to set up process of requesting the medication. Optum demands that someone must be home to sign for this medication. This medicine was delivered by Walgreens for a year without signing and with no issues. So now I must stay in my house all day waiting for these meds when I really need to be at my son's assisting him. Delivery can be any time from morning until 8 PM. I questioned several people at Optum about this and each one gave me a different answer - ask five people and you get five different answers! I am praying I can get delivery of this cancer medication back to Walgreens. I wish I could rate Optum Specialty Pharmacy zero stars.

I hope management reads this

I don’t know if someone from the company reads these, but I have found that if the call doesn’t go well with a customer service agent, they basically won’t hang up the line so that I can’t do the survey after the call. That happened today and I got put on hold when the call ended. That has happened in the past as well. They want their metrics to look good and your customer satisfaction goes down.

However you are managing your call center staff, it’s not working.

Horrible five phone calls and chat…

Horrible five phone calls and chat messages and Rx for $400 that I don’t use shipped. I called straight away to cancel Rx before Rx went to shipping department. I was told it was canceled, removed from my profile and credit card. I went to the app still there. Hence I’ve called and messaged three more service reps. Now the medication is shipped although I have ref # from calling at 5am to stop it.
Now I’ll be charged $400 and await a shipping label to return Rx.
I was also hung up on. I was extremely calm until I was denied an email shipping label to get this resolved. I don’t want to pay credit card and wait for Optum to reimburse once this Rx is retuned. Btw this medication is over priced, it’s been around for decades no reason for the cost. Plus my profile already say I take the generic.

Happy with this responsive mail order pharmacy

I am surprised at so many negative reviews. Overall, I am very happy with Optum Rx. I have been using them for about four years and have about 6-8 medications on standing order. The website interface with United Healthcare AARP is good and they provide frequent updates on the status of refills via emails and text. Customer service and phone staff are based in the Philippines but are always courteous and responsive. Mail delivery is fast, usually within a week.

Why I liked OptumRx

For years, I was shuttled from using a local pharmacy to various mail Rx providers, including Merck, CVS and OptumRx. OptumRx was the best; reliable, and when I had any problem I received fast genuine help from a representative. The absolute worst was CVS— never once did they get any prescriptions right. Whether picking up locally or by mail order, I received wrong meds, miscounts, prescriptions that were “put on hold” because they were duplicated (no, they were two meds needed for the same thyroid deficiency)— and they did not notify me of that, had to find out the hard way, when it never showed up! Merck was the middle— problems rare, but difficult to resolve.

Sorry I can't leave a zero

Sorry I can't leave a zero. Heart med Entresto went from 60 to 700 dollars with no explanation. They said they needed another preauthorization (I've been on it two years) then let me run out while they failed to talk to the dr and canceled the preauth. Now they say I have to preauth with fleet rx who is closed, then they'll fill the scrip by mail. I'm out completely and stopping suddenly can kill me. They don't care.

Terrible terrible company

Terrible terrible company.
They charged me $140 for a tube of skin cream without first telling how much it would cost. When it arrived I said no way I’m paying that. And they said no refunds
No returns.
Beyond that, OptumRx has over the years sent me far more medicine than I have actually been prescribed. I take my medicine accurately every day — and one might suspect OptumRx has evidently figured a Federal loophole so that they can steadily oversupply my requirements — and rip off Medicare in the process.
Hate them.
