If you're even remotely interested in learning the blues, I highly recommend Pickup Music's Blues Pathway. The course is incredibly well-structured — each module builds rapidly on the last, making progress feel natural and rewarding. (Advanced players can easily skip the earlier lessons.)

The pathway covers essential blues topics like 12-bar forms, turnarounds, call-and-response, and a range of soloing techniques—all presented in an accessible way. The instructor is clear, engaging, and passionate about the genre.

Whether you're looking to tighten up your phrasing or dive into blues for the first time, this course is a fantastic resource--and I am only halfway through the pathway.

The amount of information provided on Pickup Music is impressive! Its bite-sized formate makes for a palatable experience. The lessons and exercises have been super helpful to my growth as a guitarist. I wake up, every day, ready to learn more!

I have tried numerous online learning options for guitar, but this has by far been the best experience. The learning pathways provide a practical approach that is broken down into steps that feel manageable, instead of throwing a bunch of stuff at you without any context. And the context is what really matters. There is also attention payed to the feel of your playing and that has really opened a whole new world for my sound.

By starting with familiar patterns it is helpful to visualize the fretboard. From this context adding the different scale tones becomes easier. There is no other way I find other than the repetition to begin the memorization process. Dr. Molly helps make it fun and keeps you focused on the pathway. Jamming with the bands is a reward.

This guitar learning pathways are perfect for beginners who don’t just want to rush into playing songs, but actually understand what they’re doing. It focuses on building solid fundamentals, good habits... Instead of just memorizing shapes, you learn to really listen and play with intention. A great option if you want to learn guitar in a more thoughtful and grounded way.

So far learning the guitar with pick up music has been so much fun. I really feel like I’ve made the right choice and am always so excited to what I’m about to learn next.

Many courses show what the CAGED system...this the only one that shows you how to practice it and internal ize it.

This is such a great course and pathway. I consider myself an intermediate guitar player playing for over 20 years now. This course really helped me understand and solidify my understanding of chords, shapes, scales, triads and how these all work together in theory and musicality. I am excited to try other courses and pathways. Highly recommended for everyone. Molly and the team are fantastic and they make learning so much fun.

Great structured easy paced lessons. I've been playing for a bit and struggling to memorize my scales in key. The cage system simplifies it and the lessons are great and easy to follow. Love it

I am so exited about the whole pathways. I am intermediate level and pick up music is helping me to put in order my mind and teaching me new concepts.

Ecerything is good so far, I see a real improvement

Very great tips and exercises to really help you learn different skills on the guitar that you probably wouldn't think about on your own.

I was not sure if Late Beginner pathway was right for me at first. I have tried several late beginner courses with other on line courses and found that they mostly repeated beginner lessons with maybe some scales. This course gives me that but with so much more breadth and depth. For example, learn the E major scale and then learn a melody from the E major scale. Not just learn a tab, but learn it in small chunks until it feels ingrained in my mind and in my fingers. And then once there add in the strum and hop on the riff. Very cool and perfect for what I needed. Thanks Karl and Pickup Music. I'm very pleased so far in this new journey.

I love being able to look at the videos over and over for practice and not feeling that I am being judged or having someone losing patience with me. Karl is a wonderful teacher and makes learning interesting and understanding.

This totally opened up my understanding of the guitar. It kind of blew me away and the lessons were really approachable and systematic. I've tried a few different courses on guitar music theory and this was the first one that stuck and made sense.

I had Covid in mid 2024. Stuck at home, I decided to tend my very small guitar collection, futz with the bridge, necks and tuners to try to make it something that I loved to play again. Throughout that process I got to talking to my friends about what they’re doing. One of them mentioned pickup music. I picked it up. I immediately dove into the CAGED method and haven’t looked back. I ended up losing my instruments in the Eaton Fire and came upon a used Strat that replaced my Telecaster. I love playing guitar again. I’m getting in 5 days per week. The Caged lessons, and practicing pentatonic is definitely the way through being hung up on intermediate and fumbling through songs I liked to play. I am hearing music in a whole new light. Practice your scales! CAGED makes that process super fun, digestible and delicious. Listening to the skills of the instructors, especially Molly’s clean and superbly warm tones is inspirational. The lessons are not condescending and it makes you feel like you’re a part of something. I have been telling everyone I know about this system. I only wish there was an app so would be easier to reference my lessons. Hence 4 stars. It can and will improve! I’m doing them all thru a web browser on my iPhone.
