Enjoyable But P2W.

Okay, don't get me wrong, I love Prodigy. It makes math more enjoyable and has tools to help you, like blocks and pencils. You can play at home to get Magicoin to unlock pets, so it's not entirely P2W. But, unfortunately, businesses, such as education-based businesses, need to make money. Prodigy decided to make a lot of rewards Member based. I played since 2nd, so I do remember the Member jar, but I didn't remember everything costing money. You now NEED to pay them money to evolve your pets, which I would've been fine with, but then they decided, "Oh no, sorry, you need to pay to unlock pets and the special one we giveaway every week." I'm sorry WHAT!? I need money to be better at progressing further? I don't understand why they made it like that. Yeah, I did say member exclusive evolutions were fine, but if they're for pets that only have ONE EVOLUTION, it's pretty unreasonable. I hope you get the idea that Prodigy is a great educational website, but it should shorten down a little on the member exclusive stuff.

Too P2W

This game is so pay to win. After I evolve a certain amount of pets I need to pay for some stupid membership. They also added these new mini games that are kinda fun but I need a membership to have unlimited time. The new currency, magicoin, is required for a lot of stuff. The developers of prodigy are starting to be like EA and Epic Games. Everything is behind a paywall at this point. Bring back the old Prodigy pls.

The old prodigy was so much better

The old prodigy was so much better, but now the appearance in horrible, all of my progress was wiped, it seems like they want you to subscribe more than actually worrying on making it actually engaging, bring the old prodigy back.

This is Pokemon but bad.

This is literally a ripoff of Pokemon. Everything in the game needs a stupid membership! And most of the time teachers don't even allow us to play prodigy! Plus the whole game play is dog water.

Can't change grade level without a membership

My son selected grade 1 as his grade rather than grade 3 and in order to override this, we need to pay for a membership.
I contacted the Prodigy support about this issue and they did outline a way to start another account and they will do something on the backend to honour his progress in the game with the new account.
I'm giving a one start review because requiring a membership to change a grade level when the accounts are made and the game is played by children with varying levels of reading comprehension feels like a predatory business practice.

Just a cash grab game

Forcing 5 year olds to pay money in a MATH game should be a crime, and the fact the make this game so pay to play ruins the whole point of learning, every 20 seconds your getting hit by a paywall, like why is there a limit on catching pets and where you can go. Also the questions are so easy a 2 year old could do the max this is just a pointless cash grab.

Too easy and discriminatory

The questions in math are too simple. One of the questions said "How many vertices are there?" and gave a triangle. And normal kids know vertices mean corners, so they just give basic math questions. And English is worse! In English, it looks as if you type your own name, but you pick a letter, and it instantly gives a list of names that you can have! My name was not on the list, so it was very mean.

Consumerism Over a Real Learning Experience

The primary function of Prodigy seems less about teaching math and more about creating a powerful upsell environment. The game structure creates significant social and gameplay inequities designed to pressure children (and thus, parents) into purchasing a premium membership. The "free" game experience is intentionally bottlenecked. Non-paying users are constantly bombarded with ads showcasing exclusive pets, gear, and advantages available only to paying members. There is a high disparity as well, with normal players literally walking on dirt, and members on clouds. One noting group has said, they experienced 13 "ads or offers" for the premium account in 20 minutes of playing. The math questions frequently feel like a chore or a "paywall" designed to unlock brief moments of gaming fun, rather than an integrated learning experience. The focus shifts the child's attention from academics to consumption and shopping within the virtual world.

The product is okay however support is terrible

The product is okay however I'm not sure how much my kids actually approved. There seemed to be a great deal of guessing and no phonics training with the English program. However if you have any type of support problem they are HORRIBLE. They double billed me. I contacted support multiple times to rectify. Finally contacted the bank as a duplicate payment. Prodigy then cancelled my membership while still owing me $179.40 for a premium membership.

Not easy way to delete account

Not easy way to delete account, other than buried in help docs, and having to fill out a form, that get emailed to them, etc. Think twice before subscribing. Hope FTC comes after these websites that don't let you delete your account at the click of a button.

Amazing to get a child over fear of maths

My daughter hated maths based on her experience at school, so I decided to change that.

With focused attention from me I got her to a place where she was a little more confident, and then Prodigy did the rest, propelling her from one of the bottom of the class to one of the top.

Prodigy Maths is a Pokémon like game, in which you collect and battle with pets to level up and defeat a bad wizard that has taken over the academy.

To make a move in a battle, you must complete a maths question.

It's a simple but highly effective game mechanic.

The trouble is that my daughter completed all the challenges and collected nearly all pets in Prodigy Maths 18 months to 2 years ago. And the Prodigy team have not updated it since – only the graphics, which were clearly good enough to compel thousands of children to play.

She comes back occasionally in the hope that the Prodigy team will have created a special event or unlocked a new level, but each time she is disappointed, and each time the gap between checking grows larger.

Fortunately she is well on her way to a strong maths foundation, so it's not all bad. But it's a shame that the Prodigy team don't push forward with new levels. Maybe they have no funding and revenue is too low to pay a team to do it.

If that is the case, it's a tragedy, because the difference this game can make is astounding, and it should be supported by parents and teachers alike.

It's possible that the cost is too high for many of the families that would like to try it. I think the Prodigy team could change the payment structure so that schools pay a little (or even voluntary) contribution for their use (which is currently free) and parents pay a bit less, possibly with a monthly payment scheme and no year lock in.

This would encourage many more paying subscribers, and generate the revenue needed to maintain the game and keep kids playing it for the long term.
