Realsam Avis 

The REALSAM phone has not been at all useful for my dad who is severely sight impaired. I was away while my dad was trying to get to grips with this phone. Hence when I tried to cancel the contract he was out of the 60 days trial. I would NOT recommend for any person with severe sight loss or a voice that is not always completely clear. I have since discovered there are far more efficient options. The system is not at all interpretive is slow and clunky. I gave sought advice from Vision Support who agree that it is not suitable for someone with severe sight loss. DO NOT buy this phone or if you do remember to send it back within the trial period. My dad now using Gemini-Google on a standard smart phone with no problem it is far more intuitive and user friendly

The RealSam phone works OK as a phone - provided there is sufficient mobile signal. It has not been successful or useful for my 92 year-old relative. No printed user manual was supplied and without someone else available to research online for use of whatever facilities it offers the phone is basically redundant.
The ‘contract’ one accepts verbally after the sales person reads it to the buyer (there’s nothing to sign), and runs for 3 years although the website refers only to a period of 2 years. The text of the ‘verbal contract’ is not available on the website, although after several phone calls to the Help Team over a period of a month or more we did eventually receive an email that includes the text; we had requested a copy of the recorded verbal contract but apparently this was not traceable/available. The lack of a printed contract has been reported to the RNIB; they were surprised and said they would look into this matter as it seems inappropriate.
The phone is heavier than most mobiles hence inconvenient to carry when out for a walk.
Friends who have been called on the RealSam phone say that the voice is not recognisable.
Although this is a ‘smart’ phone, the camera function was disabled, which was a problem when I was trying to assist my cousin with difficult utility bills; if I could have viewed those as an image (i.e. use phone to take photo and then send it to me) it might have resolved the queries. Note that when asking the Help Desk about this I was told that as the phone is for those with sight loss the camera is not necessary. (I believe that some models do include the camera function.)
The verbal contract imposes a 3 year period, and to cancel is as expensive as to keep the equipment - albeit unused. As you can appreciate, my older relative is extremely annoyed at this and feels that other potential users should be warned.
Buy or rent the RealSam phone with your eyes wide open!
