Paul from the Red Cross came to service…

Paul from the Red Cross came to service the bed which we have had for almost 5 years since my husband’s stroke.
Very pleasant and polite, shown me his ID card before entering my home.
Asked if he needed to take his shoes off.
I stood chatting to him while he serviced the bed and to my amazement he actually shown me that I could position the bed to raise legs if needed.
Five years and never knew that I could raise the bottom of the bed if my husband’s feet or ankles swell up.I was well pleased.
After Paul had finished I asked if he would like a drink to take with him.
The Red Cross have been excellent on all equipment in the last 5 yrs.
highly recommended.

Thank you Richard for the well deserved three day course

I was not too confident to begin with it’s been years since my last certification. At the end of the course felt if I was required to perform in an emergency; I would not hesitate.Richard’s quick response and calm approach made a stressful situation much easier to handle. answered all our questions with such knowledge and demonstrated a high level of skill and confidence, making sure that everyone was safe and well cared for.

I didnt enjoy it

The lady leading the training (Mo) speaks too loud, I seriously had headaches after the sessions. I enjoyed more the session with the other trainer - Paul, as I did not find her friendly. I did not like her attitude - she told me off for looking through the booklets. I found it weird. She also told us not to check our phones during the sessions. It was OTT, we are not at school and I had to check my work emails. She sent me looks for "not complying". She also did not answer directly to my questions but was explaining everything from the begining. It was a waste of time and too much for my IQ. I hope my work will send me to trainings with different providers in the future. The pace was too slow, we did not cover info about children and pregnant women. Although I understand the course was FA for work, but the other courses I attended were more fast pace and we covered children and pregnant women topics as well. We also did not cover i.e. meningitis. There were too many scene playing excersises, it could have been done without additional circus like i.e. shouting etc. We are all adults, we do not need this kind of "entertaiment". I was exhausted after the course, luckily I will have to repeat it in 3 years. The group work was boring and repetitive. I did not enjoy the training. Also, it was too cold in the venue. And reminding us to disinfect our hands like children..cmon.. A lot of participants could not speak English well and did not understand many things. The fact there was no exam at the end of the course was njust scary - it was never the case with any other providers. I would be scared to get help from some of them as they did not understand everything and were doing things against common sense. Two stars as I liked the pen and books they gave us (although these are the standard books) and that each of us had an own phantom to practice

Overpriced items, often that only dealers can afford

Brilliant charity I'm sure, but the charity shops have become completely overpriced. I understand they are making money for charity but the beauty of charity shops was also to enable people on lower incomes to purchase items they would not normally be able to afford. For example, a vintage 80s dress in my local branch was priced at £80....probably what you'd buy it for in an overpriced vintage boutique. When I asked about the dress I was told by the manager that it was sold to a dealer, who 'swept' the shop and bought all the vintage decent items and didn't argue about the price. She almost proudly told me that such dealers come in numerous times a week and don't mind paying these sort of prices, often rounding up to the nearest hundred, buying multiple items to sell in their shops or on Vinted! So clearly no one else gets a look in! She also dropped in that the dress wouldn't have fit me anyway as it was a size 8 (even though I'm a size 8), which was rude and completely uncalled for. She was extremely passive aggressive.
The stores also stock new Zara ex sale items, which is great, but they are priced often higher than they are in the sale. Other high street brands are also usually overpriced even if from a cheap brand or tatty and badly washed.
It has really put me off donating goods to this charity, and there's not much point shopping in there. Charity shop prices are getting ridiculous, they may as well list items on Vinted themselves if charging so much. So unfair and disappointing.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

We understand that recent media coverage, including the article in The Telegraph, has raised questions about the work of the British Red Cross Family Tracing and Reunion teams. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify our role and approach.

As a neutral humanitarian organisation, the British Red Cross supports people in crisis, regardless of their background or how they arrived in the UK. Our Family Reunion work helps refugees, who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution or disaster, to reunite with close family members such as partners and children under 18. This is done in line with UK law and international obligations.

Eligibility and process: Only those granted refugee status by the Home Office can apply for family reunion visas. The scheme is tightly regulated, and many applicants face legal, financial or logistical barriers.

Costs: Applicants must cover all associated costs, including visa fees, legal support and travel. The British Red Cross provides limited financial assistance in fewer than 5% of cases, and only where families are particularly vulnerable.

Scope of support: We do not fund regular flights or facilitate large-scale travel. Our support is targeted and compassionate—often helping parents reunite with young children after long and traumatic separations.

We hope this provides clarity and reassurance. If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch by emailing ComplaintsComplimentsComments@redcross.org.uk
