Came here for a meal whilst staying at the Welltrough caravan site just 15 mins away across the fields. The owner of the site has mown a nice path all the way down to the wooded area that leads onto the pub carpark. We'd booked a table for 5.30 but arrived early and was lead to our table shortly after arriving by a lovely young member of staff. All the staff we saw were very polite and helpful, many of which were young people but we couldn’t praise them enough for how they were, not only towards us but listening and watching them with others. The food was nice and very hot when it came out which was nice as many places it often has cooked a little by the time it got to you. Ordered a garlic bread side with my steak and although it came about 5 mins after the main food it was piping hot and lots of it too. The steak was sliced which I found a little strange and meant it had dried out a bit by the time I was getting into it but the taste was still good and it was cooked exactly to my liking which isn’t always the case some places. I did find that only serving steak onion rings and chips was a little strange and would have preferred maybe a few less chips and maybe peas and even mushrooms would be nice, even if it was available on the sides to add if not included. My wife had the scampi and enjoyed that although there was too many chips for her. We had deserts she the tripe choc brownie which was enjoyed and myself the bread and butter pudding which was nice although I felt it had been microwaved none the less it was nice with the icecream. I’m not sure the added touch of the blueberries and cinder toffee was necessary but I presume it was added for colour but in my opinion it’s not needed and they could save a few pennies not adding them. The building itself was in good order having recently been refurbished and it looked great the toilets too were very clean. I’d give it a 9 out of 10 simply down to those bits mentioned as far as the food was concerned but the staff get 10/10 it would be more if possible. They all seem to give 110% and are a credit to the team. Service staff especially young people often get criticised even though they are still learning many of them but these I can’t praise enough. Yes, some are learning the ropes and maybe they have to ask where some of the tables are but so what. We all have to start somewhere. Well done guys. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
