website is a waste of time

I had heard anecdotally that applying for a three year senior railcard online can be problematic.Today I discovered the anecdotes were accurate.Followed the screen prompts through to the final page.At that point you are asked if you would prefer free or special delivery.Opted for "free" however the "continue" button would not allow progression to finalise the purchase. Then decided let's see what happens if you press special delivery at £6.50.That option let me continue whereupon a red box appears stating there's a technical issue and purchase can't be completed.I mentioned the issues at our local station to the ladies in the ticket office. They confirmed that they had heard this a number of times and the best thing to do was phone customer service who would be able to help.So much for technology !!! I suspect the service will be outsourced.

Where do all the Railcards go.....

I had a prompt from National Rail in June to advise me my Railcard was going expire in a month & to apply for a renewal. I applied immediately
to create a smooth transition from old to new Railcard.
Railcard arrived with wrong expiry date. I enquired & was told to cut Railcard in two, also prove I had not signed the back & send this evidence which I did to then be given a refund. After no sign of refund I contacted Railcard enquiries and told they would send me a replacement. If I wanted
a replacement promptly I would pay postage of over £6.00. I am still waiting ( sure there's a song there somewhere). My replacement Railcard was issued on 19th July so wasting usage time and Railcard is still out there somewhere in " it's on its way" land. Disgraceful for something that is meant to benefit not cause stress........

Dodgey payments taken

Since our local station booking office has been closed, I've had to deal with my Senior Railcard purchase online, only this time, I somehow got signed up for a subscription service called complete savings which took a number of payments out of my bank totaling £90. Now, National Rail is dragging their feet making inquiries about this suspicious occurrence.
Railcards should be available over the counter at major booking offices.

Off the rails ......

Tried to renew my wife's senior railcard online. The website is appalling. Got to the end of completing all the required information ( a quite lengthy process) FOUR times, and each time, a red panel appeared informing me there was some technical issue and I should clear all the information and start again. INFURIATING. This is bad enough, but exactly the same thing happened to me a year ago when I filled in my senior railcard application. Clearly, the website is not fit for purpose.

Buyer beware - purchase with caution

Buyer beware - PURCHASE WITH CAUTION!
I had followed the links in a reminder email to renew my Senior Railcard which was due to expire on 4th October. After a very fiddly procedure (they may wish to look into redesigning their pretty useless and confusing app and related communications) I got a code to download to update my card, only to discover that it now runs from the current date, not the end of my existing subscription - therefore I have lost nearly a month from my card!!
I naturally contacted Railcard who very offhandedly informed me I have purchased a new card, not a renewal and therefore I am due nothing back. I can only repeat that I followed the links in the renewal email from them, so if that was the case it is as a result of their systems being difficult to navigate (and btw although a senior, I am a qualified IT technician and Social Media manager, so no technophobe!).
Very unsatisfactory, and if I could find an alternative I would not purchase from them again.

Daylight robbers

Purchased a Senior railcard in 2015 which was valid for 3 years. It was overlooked as it was bought for use maybe once or twice but was never used. The letter sent from Arbroath with the card attached was found after it expired in 2018. I sent it back to Arbroath taking a copy of it. Receipt was not acknowledged and they refused any refund. A piece of plastic with my initials on it for £70. Highway robbery. Trains need to be nationalised as they are ripping people off! its frankly unacceptable and disgusting

Railcards

Railcards, can be very good value.Obviously if you travel a lot by rail.
Railcards are excellent, sadly , they are very badly let down by the customer dervices.
Run into a problem, of any sort, it can be an absolute nightmare to get sorted.
Best avoided.

We repeatedly failed to access our…

We repeatedly failed to access our online account to renew our senior railcards. We tried telephone contact but gave up after an hour or so (x 2-3) waiting for our call to be answered. We then contacted Railcard by phone at 7am the next morning when they opened up and were surprised to have the call answered after just 10 minutes. However we were then quickly cut off. We tried again and our call was answered after just a few minutes by a charming gentleman who renewed our railcards without further delay. He said that our new cards would be in the post within 5 days, and although we were a bit sceptical about this, our railcards appeared, correctly updated for 3 years, the very next day. No marks at all for the website but suggest contacting Railcard by phone as early as possible in the day and hope that you get the same charming gentleman as we did!

My last senior railcard expired in…

My last senior railcard expired in September last year and I was hoping to renew it online for a trip at the end of next week. So far it has taken 2 days of form filling and treating my application as a new customer registering for the first time. It asks for proof of my age then it asks a question about the digits on my driving licence which frankly I can't understand so I have to end it there. I have even tried re registering my name under a different email address and this bloody website keeps going around in circles so I'm back to square on. I totally give up.So I will take the car now. Cheaper.

Nonexistent Customer Service or Help.

Appalling customer service. Like hundreds of others, (see their Facebook page comments) I have been calling, emailing and messaging for the last seven days without a single response. Hung on the phone for over 20 minutes each time before giving up. I simply want a replacement for a lost card but due to a fault on their website, (another problem!) I can't do it online. As a consequence I have lost out on reduced fares, which is the whole point of spending £30+ on a railcard. If I could give it zero stars and still post a review I would. In summary: phones don't get answered, emails go unanswered, web site unusable, don't answer messages.
