be very careful

I'll tell you about my experience. I bought from them for the first time, a $400 order. Order paid and goods received. Then I placed a second order on them, Total Order Value $3,550, paid them $1,550 in advance and then paid the rest upon arrival of the goods. The goods never arrived; it's been four months since I paid $1,550. They started saying the goods couldn't be shipped due to bad weather, then that the person I ordered was on a business trip to France, and then that they'd refund me. Besides, I had already left the review but they found a way to have it removed. You make your own considerations but be very careful.

Not trustworthy; bait and switch tactics by their own admission...

UPDATE (after ServerTechCentral's response):

STC: "As soon as our team identified the issue, we took immediate action to prevent fulfillment of orders at incorrect pricing and began notifying affected customers."

ME: So you say but that's not the case with me. Instead, your team sent me an invoice to pay that was more than double the advertised and agreed upon price. No matter how you "spin" it, this is classic bait (lower advertised price; order is confirmed) & switch (asking for much higher amount; we hope you don't notice).

STC: "This is a standard practice across the industry when system errors occur."

ME: Not true. I have had several experiences where an advertised price incorrect on their website and the vendor honored the lower price. You should have done the same. It's an integrity thing. You can try and explain your way around it but you don't come off looking like you think you do.

STC: "We value transparency and customer trust..."

Me: Not true. I was the one who had to contact *you* about the price being switched from $450 to $962 even though your sales person, Ethan, knew and later emailed me, "The reason I moved forward with your order is simple: I genuinely enjoyed our conversation and wanted to make sure you didn’t walk away empty handed."

STC: "...we would be open to working with you on a revised quote."

ME: I've told you what you can do. Honor the $450 price you advertised and be done with it. That speaks more than all this other fluff you wrote. But... NO, you won't.

ORIGINAL:
I was sourcing U.2 NVME 2TB SSD drives for two new servers we purchased. Grok recommended Micron 1.92tb enterprise drive and presented 3 possible resellers.

The first was ServerTechCentral.com that had the drive I wanted listed for $450 on their website. Then, I called and spoke with "Ethan" in sales. I pointed him to the listing page, confirmed the price, and said I wanted to order 2 units but would need to email our state exemption certificate for no sales tax. I confirmed this in writing in a follow-up email to Ethan with our certificate attached.

I didn't hear back for 2 hours so I sent another email, "Ethan?" An hour later, Ethan called and asked if I had ordered from someone else. I said I was about to but hadn't yet done so. He said that I'd be receiving an invoice through email in the next few minutes with a payment link and that they would ship the product after payment.

Another hour passed and then I received an email with the attached invoice and payment link. The only problem was that they had changed the price from $450 per unit to $962 per unit. Same item and description only more than double the price! I had the product page loaded on a browser tab but when I clicked on the tab, I saw the price change from $450 to $962 right before my eyes. ServerTechCentral had changed the price!

I called Ethan and asked why the bait and switch. His answer surprised me. He said he wasn't sure but that it could be a website problem. He said that several customers had called and complained that their pricing was being adjusted mid order.

I emailed him asking that they honor the $450 price and he emailed me back saying he had "personally canceled 12 orders today because of a pricing issue on the website that caused discrepancies" and that he was "still working to get that sorted out." So, this was *not* a one-off problem and as such is even more egregious. Then Ethan wrote, "I hope this situation doesn't reflect negatively in terms of a review."

I was candid and I emailed him and said that they could honor the advertised $450 price or I would post reviews on Google, Trust Pilot, Reddit, BBB about my direct experience and file complaints with the FTC and Texas Attorney General Consumer Protection Division.

ServerTechCentral wasted hours of my time and ignored my request to honor the price they had advertised and then switched *after* I had placed my order. I have emails with Server Tech Central and slack messages with my team confirming the $450 price and Ethan's explanation. There is no excuse for their unethical and dishonest behavior.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We understand how frustrating this situation must have been, and we take your concerns seriously.

What you encountered was not a “bait and switch,” but the result of a genuine and unfortunately widespread pricing synchronization error on our website that day. This issue affected multiple product listings, including the Micron 1.92TB U.2 NVMe drives you referenced, and led to incorrect pricing being displayed temporarily.

As soon as our team identified the issue, we took immediate action to prevent fulfillment of orders at incorrect pricing and began notifying affected customers. As mentioned in our communication, several orders had to be canceled that day due to the same discrepancy—something we do not take lightly, but was necessary to avoid processing transactions based on inaccurate data.

We completely understand your expectation that the listed price be honored, especially after initial confirmation. However, in cases where there is a clear and verifiable pricing error, we are unable to fulfill orders at that incorrect rate. This is a standard practice across the industry when system errors occur.

That said, we recognize that this caused delays and inconvenience for you, and for that we sincerely apologize. This is not the experience we aim to provide. Since then, we have been actively working to correct and strengthen our pricing systems to ensure this type of issue does not happen again.

We value transparency and customer trust, and we regret that this situation did not reflect our usual standards. If you are still sourcing these drives, we would be open to working with you on a revised quote or exploring alternative options that meet your needs.
