Extremely Unprofessional & Unfair Claim Handling – First Claim Experience with Shriram Insurance
I am sharing my genuine experience with Shriram General Insurance Co. Ltd. regarding my motor insurance claim, and it has been deeply disappointing and mentally exhausting.
My vehicle met with an accident on 25/04/2026 when it was hit from behind by a roadway bus at a busy highway crossing. The impact caused visible damage to the rear as well as the front portion of my vehicle in the same incident. I lodged the claim promptly, expecting professional support as a policyholder who has always paid premiums on time and was making the first claim of the policy period.
What followed was a series of delays, lack of coordination, and an extremely casual approach toward claim handling:
The first assigned surveyor never visited despite confirming over a call.
After days of follow-up, a second surveyor was assigned, and I had to personally chase for the survey to happen.
During inspection, it was evident that multiple parts were damaged in the same accident, yet the surveyor arbitrarily approved only two parts and rejected the rest without logical justification.
I was even asked to provide photographs from the exact moment of the accident — an impractical demand when safety was the priority at a traffic-heavy highway with a small child in the vehicle.
Despite repeated written explanations, clarification of the sequence of events, and offering witness support, the company chose to ignore the facts and mechanically deny genuine damages by labeling them as “unrelated”.
This reflects:
Lack of sensitivity in claim assessment
Poor coordination between surveyors and the company
Unwillingness to objectively review genuine customer grievances
A rigid, dismissive approach rather than fair insurance practice
As a customer, this experience clearly shows that when it comes to honoring a genuine claim, the company’s approach is not supportive but defensive and dismissive.
I have now been left with no option but to escalate the matter to the Insurance Ombudsman and relevant grievance authorities.
I strongly urge prospective customers to carefully evaluate their options before choosing this insurer, especially if you expect fair support during an actual claim situation — which is the true test of any insurance company.
Policyholders deserve support during accidents, not arguments and technical denials.
