Website and customer service are terrible.
Their clothing is great, their website and customer service are terrible. At Christmas I placed an order and it was supposed to include a free pair of socks. No socks. They said I should have called if it didn't show up on the order page. Said they would send them, but never did. On February 3, I placed an order and it said free 3 day shipping. It didn't show up on the order, so I called them. Was told they would credit me the shipping as soon as I placed the order. Never happened. Chatted with someone today and they said it was done on the 7th. Definitely did not show up on my credit card.
Poor quality
I bought merino gloves liners. One week in, they are ruined. I am gentle with them and they are worn under leather ski gloves. Really disappointed
False advertising, won't make good
Every year I look forward to the email from Smartwool for their spend X amount and receive a free pair of Christmas socks promo. This is the second year in a row they have not sent my free Christmas socks, even though I met all of the order requirements. This is the second year in a row customer service has said, "too bad, so sad." They say they are out of the promotional Christmas socks and will not make this right. I love Smartwool socks, but because of their false advertising and poor customer service I will be switching to Darn Tough in the future.

it costs a lot, more tha 120€ for a man base layer. it's a shirt almost cool rather than warm as it's intended for.

Holes after a few weeks. Used to be good
These used to be good. But over the last couple of months I am finding holes wearing in the heels of several new pairs I just can't believe how rubbish they have become.
They don't care when your order arrives
I placed an order, and before I paid for it I checked the delivery date. The date they said I'd get it by was perfect. After placing order, I received numerous changes to the delivery date which was a pain, since I have to watch for deliveries due to theft. Then finally heard that it would all arrive after I left for my trip. I contacted the company and they offered a refund but nothing more. very poor customer service. The product may be okay, but if you actually need if for some specific event or trip, don't bother ordering from them.

This used to be a great company to buy quality socks from. Lately the socks have fallen in holes and even arrived with holes in. And don’t try to return anything - you have to go through a complicated return process, ship it to Italy and wait a long time to get your refund I’ve stopped buying from them.

3 day shipping to over two weeks. Spent extra money for 3 day shipping to make sure socks were with me a week before my trip. Lost money because they continued to deliver them after I canceled my order and will not refund, so much stress before and during a trip and then had to buy socks elsewhere costing more than I could afford for a trip that was supposed to be relaxing and relatively inexpensive, ending up short on cash needed to get home. Feel lied to and scammed. Would suggest making your own socks before buying from them.
Very poor customer service experience
Very poor customer service experience. Placed online order directly with Smartwool, heard nothing for 7 days. Sent email chase up, delayed response from agent Debora telling me possible delays due to promotion period with no indication of dispatch timetable
Company based in Italy. Refund given but took ages.
Ordered socks, not realising that Smartwool are located in Milan, Italy. Returning the socks was expensive and it took ages to get a refund because the socks were retained in Customs in Italy for weeks on end. Eventually received a refund.
Absolutely abysmal service
I wasted 4 calls and nearly 3 hours of my life over multiple weeks on this company's abysmal customer service, all for socks. I signed up for a discount by joining the mailing list, but the coupon code they sent didn't work. I had to call customer service to get them to resend it. My order was free shipping due to how much I purchased. Placed my order. One of the pairs arrived damaged, but I actually DO need them...so I had to call again and they said they couldn't just resend the product but I had to reorder. Asked them to then give me the same discount. The coupon codes they sent didn't work AGAIN. I had to call again and worked with the company for another HOUR and tried to order by phone. They have some really weird system. They said my credit card wasn't working, so I called the credit card company and got them on the phone with the vendor. No charge had come through from Smartwool and the credit card company explained that. The Smartwool CSR then hung up on me. She never processed my order. I will NEVER purchase from that company ever again. I wasted nearly 3 hours of my valuable time for a pair of socks. Completely unacceptable. DO NOT shop with them.
Holy, literally the worst socks ever
The worst socks ever. Instantly pill and form holes. I spend more time darning these darn socks than wearing them.
I absolutely love my base layer merino…
I absolutely love my base layer merino wool thermal crew and bottoms BUT please order down a size. I followed the ordering guidelines when ordering. Once worn, the layers sagged. Shipping was quick and quality of product was good. I have already washed them to try and get them to come back to original shape but that was a bust.

Please beware of this company
Please beware of this company. There was discount shown on my order but when I made the payment this disappeared and I was charged the full amount and much more than I expected. I have never experienced this before so please make sure you take a photo if there is any discount shown so you have proof should it disappear like it did for me. I contacted company but they refused to accept this had happened.

Things do not always go wrong…
My local dealer did not have the socks I wanted so I ordered 3 pairs direct from the Italian branch on the 8th of October. I received an email the same day that the socks had been packaged and given to the courier. The package arrived on the 11th of October. The socks were just as I ordered and I love them, as I knew I would! I had seen the mainly bad reviews even before I ordered but I decided to have faith and just go ahead… glad I did!
