I am sure that like many others we took our time in finally ordering a new front door. Initially, it was a matter of cost and the need to address other priorities. As the years went by it was a matter of finding a reputable company to carry out the work to provide us with a door made to a high standard reflecting the period in which our house was built, looked really good, and met the need to minimize draughts and any legal requirements.
We live in a typical late Victorian terraced house in London. There must be literally thousands and thousands of such properties. Our ceilings have original mouldings, including the ceiling in the hallway. The mouldings run along two sides of our hallway and directly across the fanlight.
Most suppliers failed to address our anxiety that the mouldings might be damaged when removing the original door frame, before replacing with a new frame.
In shortlisting potential door manufacturers and suppliers we looked at comments on line, checked Companies House records, and whether or not the supplier was a member of Fensa.
Spittlywood, a company established in 2014, who has the same Director since being incorporated as Spittlywood Limited, met all our requirements including:
• they could make a door to our preferred design
• the door would be to the same dimensions as our original Victorian door (some companies provide wider frames and a narrower door)
• include a chamfered edge on the doorframe to reflect the original Victorian style
• ensure that the threshold of their new door frame would not be a trip hazard
• provide a choice of door furniture which included draft proof letterboxes
• work closely with our chosen maker of leaded glazing to coordinate size and fit
• provided us with updates on manufacture, and images of selected door furniture against our door prior to our giving final approval
• provided a wide range of paint colours (we chose one colour for outside, and a different colour for the inside of the door)
• Indicated timings to manufacture, finish, glaze (triple glazed), deliver and fit door and fanlight were met
On the day of delivery, there were two Spittlywood fitters. ‘M’ and ‘V’ arrived on time, and worked tirelessly throughout the day. We understand that they have both worked for Spittlywood for some four years, and their experience was clearly evident as they followed the fitting instructions given to them by Spittlywood. The frame, the door, and the fanlight fitted perfectly. There was no damage whatsoever to the cornices, nor were we required to carry out any redecoration neither inside nor outside on the area adjoining the frame. All waste materials were removed, and we were left with a splendid new door. All we needed to do was to simply admire the beauty of a handsome, well crafted, door and its glazing.
In conclusion, we can only say that we found Spittlywood provided a professional and caring approach from our initial enquiry until final delivery and fitting.
Have we any regrets? Yes – we wish that we had replaced our old door years ago! Frankly, if we had come across Spittlywood sooner we may well have done so. We highly recommend this company.

Spittlywood have been an absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish. As first time homeowners with a listed building, we were not the most knowledgeable customers to deal with, but Steve and Bobbi were incredibly patient and helpful as we obtained consent from the council, and always communicated efficiently with us whenever we needed assistance. When it came to fitting the windows, the two lads they sent were hardworking, highly skilled and even left the house in a better condition than when they found it. We couldn’t recommended Spittlywood highly enough.

The craftsmanship is absolutely superb, every detail has been finished to an exceptionally high standard. A great company to work with from start to finish, professional, reliable, and clearly passionate about what they do. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again and would thoroughly recommend them to anyone looking for quality bespoke joinery.

Just had all of my front and side windows replaced in a conservation area using the miracle Accoya wood product. I was blown away by the quality, care and precision when visiting the factory before buying and now they are fitted im not disappointed. The feel and look of the product is superior and the bonus was a much warmer home in the process. Steve and the team were so helpful. We were so pleased with the previous work completed by Spittlywood Ltd ( a new oversized front door, frame and casement window) we have had further work completed by them. Again from planning to installation the whole thing was seamless. We had a new bedroom window made and installed and are delighted at the final product. We have just had a replacement oak front door with two glazed side panels made and fitted by Spittlywood. Communication throughout the process was very good and the end product is excellent, well made and fits perfectly.

Spittlywood recently replaced my front door and surround. From start to finish and aftersales support they have been fantastic. By completing an initial questionnaire I was able to say exactly what I wanted to match the character of our Victorian house from design, windows, glass, panels, lock etc through to tiny finishing details and including door furniture and with regards to colour I could choose from any commercial paint chart for them to match - unlike most others who just have a very limited range of colours and finishes that you have to choose from - and having a different colour on the inside was no problem. Bobbi in the office and Steve in the workshop were fantastic and my door was actually installed 2 weeks ahead of schedule. The door is solid wood with a very high level of finish and fantastic locking mechanism. The technicians who installed it were so tidy and efficient, it was done in less than a day. I am delighted with the service I received, and the design and quality of the new door is excellent. I couldn't be more pleased and will certainly use Spittlywood if I need further doors, windows and joinery. I highly, highly recommend them.

We have not come across such a brilliant Team as we have from Spittlywood.
They have provided fantastic quality and surprisingly affordably priced windows. The Young men that fitted them demonstrated professionalism and a care for detail that we have not come across in the extensive work we have carried out on our home in recent years years.

Highly recommend this company for bespoke wooden doors. I had a researched alot of door companies as needed a usually short door for an old cottage and Spittlywood were quick to reply to my quote request and questions and were very reasonably priced for an excellent quality product and great service . I had an external kitchen door made by Spittlywood. Amazing craftsmanship. The factory paint was
excellent, with a v . texture. So I decided to have my back gate remade. It was an old church door with the original fittings with 2 layers of oak. Steve made an excellent job in remaking the door in Sapele and managed to refit the old furnishings. Even now, after almost 2 years the door closes perfectly. Can not recommend the Company highly enough.
