Rip Off

I have also been caught with their automatic renewal scam for my digital service. They offer you a great a super price for a fixed period then renew at an exhorbitant price without any notice. When you find out they do not refund but offer you a huge discounted price to continue your subscription. When you call you are talking to a third party in India. What a shameful way to treat loyal customers. When I asked for an automatic cancellation at the end of the promotion I was told this is not possible but they are working on it. LOL

I don't know who reads this stuff

I don't know who reads this liberal garbage anymore, cancelled my subscription was still charged a month later, took hours to get it rectified. Mainstream media in Canada has become a propaganda arm for the liberal government. Total shame.

"potential subscribers should be aware…

"potential subscribers should be aware of reported difficulties in managing or cancelling the subscription".
They do not send a reminder notice of any kind when your subscription is ready to auto renew and they will not refund you if you don't CALL them within 10 days of the auto renew date, (I emailed on the day of, they said to call and didn't mention a timeline, I called today, I am on day 12). It's a sad time when the Star has to go to these lengths to make a buck. Every other company I deal with, eg Microsoft Office, sends you a reminder. It's practices like this that have prevented me from signing up for other "trials", I didn't expect this from them. Very disappointing.

BAD DELIVERY SERVICE have complained for awhile now about…

I have complained for awhile now about the home delivery, either not showing up at all or constantly coming later.
I have been getting delivery since 1988, 99% of the time it has been there before 6:30 am.
This year it has changed dramatically, either no paper or just late after i already have left for work.
This morning it showed up around 9:15 when i was getting into my truck, I asked the delivery guy what has been going on, he basically said that this is how things are and if I want to cancel it, I would be doing him a favor, go figure.
He was full of attitude that took to me by surprise.

Cancel Toronto Star

Is this the same Toronto Star news paper in Canada?, well. The audacity to charge one Canadian dollar to read an article about the Dragons Den law suit.
I googled same topic and A.I summed up the entire article in less than 3 milliseconds! Free.
Honestly I truly feel bad for anyone that pays money to read Canadian News.

ABOMINABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

ABOMINABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE; the worst of all Canadian papers (and, believe me, that is going some)!

They use an AWFUL company, Kendrew Distribution, for HORRIBLE delivery, to homes, businesses and retail outlets.

The Toronto Star is terrible

The Toronto Star is terrible, if you want to read their news you have to pay or get a subscription. Your reporting on something in Alberta you know nothing about. Biased news!!!! Don't give this company a penny

In the last year I have renewed my Saturday home delivery 3 times each time I had to cancel for non delivery not just an odd time but never at all
I am a previous long time subscriber
Each week I call customer service they want to escalate to the distributor and guarantee the next Saturday I will get delivery , never happens and no body can find out why , I was never called back with the reason for non delivery
I just cancelled again after 6 frustrating weeks
Of the star cannot deliver in Etobicoke then they should never take our money
And their staff should be better informed

They can improve by closing their doors. Justin Trudeau must pay them lots of cash for them to be so far left leaning. They are a sounding board for the Ndpliebral CULT. Shame on them. You comment with honesty about their sect leader Justin Trudeau and they deactivate you immediately for life. The one's who worship and praise JT can say mean things and never get deactivated.

The long saga of trying to cancel a Toronto Star subscription

The long saga of trying to cancel a Toronto Star subscription.

I took out a great priced home delivery subscription in February 2022.
It expired at the end of February 2023. Then I noticed the amount they billed my Visa for March 2023 was 40% higher than February.

I called and asked it to be cancelled and was assured it was done.
April Visa statement arrives.... I CALLED AND ASKED AGAIN IT BE CANCELLED.
May Visa Statement arrives.... I called and...... you get the idea.
I called again towards the end of May and was advised that NO ONE HAD CANCELLED THE SUBSCRIPTION....
I asked for them to reverse the charge. I was told that they would. But that never happened.

So I called Visa on June 5th, and filed a dispute on the transaction. Visa reversed the charges on two of the payments. May and June.

The next day, June 6th, no paper was delivered. However, I did get an email with the subject: "We Want You Back!" offering a discount to re-subscribe. Clearly they knew Visa had blocked payment.

Then I was contacted by Visa saying the Star was trying to recover the two reversed payments. I sent Visa all these details. Visa decided NOT to allow the Star to re-collect the two payments based on that.

August 6 I received a bill for $32.50 from The Star. (Trying to recover the reversed charges?) I emailed them the info regarding the Visa and told them I'm not paying it because they kept delivering papers for 3+ months after I cancelled. They didn't reply.

September 7 I receive another bill. This time for $65.00. I PHONED THEM.

After much discussion - and them trying to get me to pay half of the bill - the person spoke with someone else and came back to the phone and told me I don't have to pay the bill. That it's been cancelled. (They won't give names or employee numbers when you talk to them. I tried, EVERY TIME.)

Let's see what arrives in the mail around October 6-7th....

NOTE: It took several questions to eventually get the person on the phone to tell me they don't work IN a Toronto Star building. I could hear noises in the background suggesting she is working from home. (I heard kids and dogs in the background the previous times I called so this must be common practice.)

The ethics behind this stink. Give a good deal and then technically refuse to cancel the subscription by claiming every time that "No one called previously to cancel this subscription".

AVOID TORONTO STAR HOME DELIVERY UNLESS YOU WANT TO GO THROUGH THIS TRYING TO CANCEL IT.

UPDATE: I said I'd have to wait until October 6th to see if it was finally cancelled.

They were off a bit. They sent the next invoice out on October 12th and I received it on October 19th.

As expected, it is STILL not cancelled as I was promised it would be. They still want $65.00.

The incompetence of this company is unbelievable! And I'll add that I suspect everyone I spoke with has been told to ignore cancellation and similar requests making it virtually impossible to cancel your subscription, so they can just keep hitting your Visa account.

I may have to look at taking legal action as they will likely pass this on to a collection agency and mess up my credit rating.
