I went in time to the branch in the…

I went in time to the branch in the Mall Sofia 13/11/2025 to update my details as requested . They make all the procedure and I left after they assure me that everything were ok . After 3 days they blocked my account . As I understand reading the reviews is a trick to manage the foreigners accounts. I work over 10 years with Bulbank and always I had problems with them to assist me .

Discriminatory Practices Against EU Citizens – Avoid This Branch!!!

I visited the UniCredit Bulbank branch in Bansko (ul. Pirin №3) on November 27, 2025, as an EU citizen (Spanish) with a valid Bulgarian ID (EGN residence card), passport, and notarized rental contract proving my address in Bansko. I came fully prepared to open a basic current account in EUR, as per EU rights under Directive 2014/92.

The staff refused, stating I needed to "own property in Bulgaria" or be a Bulgarian citizen – requirements that are not mentioned on UniCredit's website or in Bulgarian law for EU residents.

This is blatant discrimination: locals or property owners get accounts easily, but renters like me (paying taxes here as a digital nomad) are turned away. When I pointed out this violates EU non-discrimination rules, the response was "these are the bank's rules – sorry."

As someone contributing to Bulgaria's economy (and with the eurozone entry in 2026), this is unacceptable!!! Bulgaria claims to welcome EU integration, yet treats foreigners with invented barriers. I urge UniCredit HQ and regulators to investigate – this erodes trust in your brand. EU citizens deserve equal access!

I am a customer of this bank

I am a customer of this bank, I am currently out of Bulgaria for work and will not return for 6 months, I received an email updating personal data, I can not log in from the app, on the web there is no way to update the personal data required by the bank, the bank does not respond to the phone or emails, now they will block my account and I am abroad, does this seem normal to you? Terrible and speechless assistance, I will be forced to close this current account, be careful with new customers, you could find yourself in the same situation as me

Fee Grifters, Beware!!

What a bunch of grifters. They charge you increasingly higher fees for no reason and later on they claim that you must have a higher capital inflow in order to reduce the service fees by 10%. Are you kidding me???
Guys please be vigilant and stay away from these grifters.

No compassion or care

In March last year my employer cancelled my visa without any warning, and without the required notice period. Since then I have been locked in legal battles and a process with another employer who wanted me right away but had a lot of problems with the correct procedures with immigration. Long story short, UB froze my card and refused to open it with only my passport (which I used to open the account at their bank six years ago) but insisted I needed a new Bulgarian ID. Finally, the new ID arrived on Monday and I went to them, in person, and signed everything etc. It is now Thursday, I do not have access to the more than 300 lev languishing in their account for the past six months, and I got told it may take up to ten days before they open it up - despite now having all the documents. When I said I have some expenses to meet and I really need to access those funds, I just got a shrug. BAD BAD BAD service and attitude.

Account was blocked for no reason

UniCredit Bulbank literally blocked my card for no reason. When I arrived at their office to ask about the issue, they demanded proof of where the 120 leva I receive monthly comes from. Are they a tax service? I am self-employed and pay taxes every month. They essentially asked me to provide a contract proving that the money I earned was obtained legally. Ridiculous! When you go to a hairdresser, do you ask for a contract beforehand? Or when you visit a lawyer? UniCredit seems uninterested in its clients and appears to be intentionally driving some away

Tax office not Bank what you think

The most disgusting bank it's s more like tax office, they buying other banks and start charging you every month for the privilege to using your money to lend them to other people and get interest. How ridiculous it's that? They have taxes for everything you need. Great businesses, give me your money and I will charge you for what I want, congratulations!
You can't just close the account on the phone you need to go in their office in Bulgaria even if you abroad. Till then they will charge you every month. Do yourself favor, don't deal with dishonorable people.

Horrible, inhumane

This was the most horrible experiencet in personal banking in the whole world I ever had experienced in my life. it was disaster and insane the customers had to experience, long wait in extremely hot environment, I even start having chest
pain and after 45 mins wait decide to
leave. Most of the 20 customer's counters were not working, only 6, few employees were circulating in the
waiting area asking customers what
service they need and were directing some of them to the ATMs. After I explore to one of them my frustration about the customer service she said, she knows in the other countries the
customer service in the banks is different and kindly advised me to get custom to the Bulgarian way of service. How arugant, instead of them being equated to the world customer's services, they want the world to be equated to their horrible customer service. Another customer also living abroad shared with me she was waiting few hours and her forstration from the customer service. I am shocked this innocent customers who does not know other way has to keep up with this horrible customer service and if this bank can not handle a lots of customers, why they have to have so many customers over their limit.

They suspended my account for a month…

They suspended my account for a month ,despite all requested documents were provided on time. They issued (not because I requested it) a new debit card that is not working for online payments, as I can't receive the one time password. Despite contracted them several times via phone, mail and went to branch no one was able to sort the issue. When I asked to close the account they said funds can't be withdrawn via cheque....simply terrible

Incorrect procedure for payment of inheritance money

Hello everyone,

After my uncle passed away, his wife prepared all the necessary paperwork and first went to UBB bank for her husband's money and got it in 2 hours. When she went to Unicredit Bulbank, she submitted an application and attached the same documents and the bank employee said she would call us after getting feedback from their legal department. One week since then, my aunt has not received any feedback, so I called the lady who submitted the documents, and she quite unkindly said she would call back once she received feedback, and insisted that the bank has no time limit for responding to such cases.

Well, I'm afraid that's supposed to be illegal, isn't it?

Have you ever experienced a similar case at the same bank? How did you resolve it?

Avoid Unicredit Bullbank in Bulgaria if you can

My lawyer and accounting firms advised me to use Unicredit Bullbank for my personal and business banking needs.
Today, I have walked out of Unicredit Bullbank and taken my business to a bank that actually cares about its (potential) clients.
I understand that processes need to be followed and that this takes time. However, when polishing nails, combing hair, applying lipstick, and talking to colleagues takes precedence over contacting clients to let them know their applications have been approved, especially after almost daily communication with my account manager, things need to be corrected.
On May 5th, I went to the bank and completed all the required account opening documentation and information. I was told that the approval process could take up to 6 weeks.
On June 6, I sent an email asking about the status. I informed the account manager that I would be in Sofia all of the following week. That same morning, I received the response that the approval was not completed yet. On June 13th, I again asked. This time the answer was that on June 6th, the approval was given. However, as I did not come to the bank within 6 days after the approval, the process needed to start all over again.
To clarify, my account manager emailed me on the morning of June 6th to say that the approval was not yet there. However, a few hours later, on that same day, the application was approved, but my account manager could not be bothered to let me know of this good news.
Only after I contacted her again 7 days later did she inform me that “oops” it was now too late as we had passed the 6 days of response time, and we had to start all over again.
Today, after the holidays, I went to the bank to ask what could be done as the application had already been approved. Is there a way to finalize the application, as I will be in Sofia the entire coming week? Starting all over, having people look at documents that they have already looked at and spending another 5-6-7 weeks to do what has already been done seems ineffective.
Answer: No.
Nothing can be done; rules are rules. You should have come (even though I didn’t even know the application was approved) and finalized the processes. This inflexible adherence to rules, even when it causes significant inconvenience to the customer, is frustrating and disappointing. They (there were 2 people now) were completely inflexible. At best, they wanted to send an email instead of calling a manager, but the answer was already carved in stone!!!!

Besides the poor customer service and the fact that it seems fine to cause rework, they have no idea what it costs to gain or retain a client. Very reputable law firms and international accounting organizations advised me to go to Unicredit Bullbank Headquarters for my business. I guess they will also start worrying about the service levels of Unicredit Bullbank…
My advice:
Stay away from bureaucratic, unprofessional, client-unfriendly Unicredit Bullbank for your personal and business banking needs. Other banks in Bulgaria do care.

I have been a bank client for over 10…

I have been a bank client for over 10 years. In last years their service is declining fast. They are unresponsive, expensive, every task takes ages. I was waiting for the task which takes few days for over month and a half. I made an overseas transfer almost a week ago. Still not processed. They are now the worst institution I have ever worked with. And I have been their loyal client for years. Im already concerned about the security.

Голямо разочарование

Увериха ме, че ще получа заема до 2-3 седмици. Постоянна работа, кредит за рефинансиране на закупен апартамент. 58% собствен принос. Два месеца чакам. Когато нося липсващите документи, установявам, че трябва още нещо. Когато най-накрая стигнах до подаването на платежното нареждане, се оказа, че няма да ми платят на уговорената дата, защото банката не е изпратила оригиналите в централата. Когато попитах банков служител защо нещо все още липсва, получих отговор, че го няма за проверка на документи. Той просто го предава на анализатора. Никога не бих избрал тази банка. Голямо разочарование. Всеки ден търпя финансови загуби, защото този заем не ми беше изплатен на очакваната дата.

Lousy pre-sales support

Не отговарят на e-mail-и относно бизнес продукти, не знам как си фантазират, че някой ще се излъже да им довери парите си. Липсваща тарифа на сайта им за разплащателни сметки в EUR в нарушение на всякакви изисквания на БНБ. Стойте далеч от тия мизерници.
